Dick goes in for bypass surgery on Monday. Good wishes, feelings, or whatever you have are definately in order! (I asked him if I could post this; he doesn't mind.)

well, I wasn't gonna say it unless he ok'd it...

note..Dick was out and about last weekend, being CAMSCO and joining in some singing here in the DC area. He has not felt tip-top in awhile, and they finally decided that 'some' blockage was the problem.

I firmly expect this to bring him right back up to his usual state of having more energy than most folks half his age..*grin*...(he has always been one of the last to quit singing at 3AM at the Getaway!)

WOW! For a minute I thought you meant Dick Greenhouse of Camsco. Not sure who this Dick is but he has my thoughts and prayers.

Damnit Dick! I was counting on you to be one of the "healthy" ones to help carry out my New Years resolution. Practice using the coughing pillow and stay well.

Love,
Mary

Positive thoughts are on the way, Dick. having been through it last April, I have some idea of your feelings. The aftereffects are not that enjoyable, and the whole procedure a bit of a pain, but definately preferable to the alternative. If your recovery is like mine was, you'll be in decent shape for NEFFA, and in fine form by the time the Getaway comes along. I haven't felt this good in years. Feel free to PM me about any of this -- Tom

Dick, if you're lucky you'll be treated a lot more respectfully after than Kendall was. Once he was on the mend the thread participation got a little punch drunk and. . . er. . . started picking on other parts of his anatomy (I've let a pretty good pun pass, but I haven't gone back to look for that thread to see if I remember the teasing right. Maybe Jacqui will remember?)

It was wonderful seeing you at the minifest. I'm looking forward, as you are, to having you stay up and sing and play until really late at the next Getaway.

P.S. So you changed your mind about a thread on Mudcat? Please, Dick and/or Susan, let us know about your recovery after the surgery. A lot of people here really care about you.

Dick, I forgot to mention the worst thing of all about this surgery. From the experience of my brother's nine bypasses, from my uncle's five -- it's not the coughing, the sneezing, or the pain. You can deal with all of that.

It's those #@$%!!**$(%!! hospital nightgowns. Whoooooooooeeeeeeeee! are you gonna get a breeze!

Susan -- it will probably take YOU longer to recover than Dick! But lots of good thoughts and white light heading to you from this direction.

If Dick's post surgery is like Tom's (besides the tune-up, Tom had a valve job and some electrical work done), today will be Dick's "lost" day -- although he'll act awake, he won't remember a bit of it. Good thing, too, cuz he'll be cranky.

It's absolutely remarkable what modern medical science can do -- you WILL feel soooo much better! Hope your recovery is smooth and uneventful. And Susan, take care of yourself, too!

Thank you everyone.

He was sent a teddy bear, but he could not keep it in intensive care, so it is waiting for him at home - he saw it before the surgery.

Nutty - he figures this will make the hills easier in Whitby.

we will be at NEFFA and see several of you there. As I mentioned in the NEFFA thread. We can use a little help this year at the festival.

Susan, I'm told that hugging a pillow will also make the drive home easier on the incision as well as protecting it from the seat belt. If he still isn't having any pain --wonderful! -- then he may not need it.

Love you both, and thank you for keeping everyone in touch.

The pillow is essential when riding in cars due to the threat of airbags.

I don't know why this is in BS either! I don't often stray below the music threads and have missed this 'til now.

I am relieved that the news is good, and Dick is on the mend, the alternative would not bear consideration. Dick, I hope to see you soon on this side of the pond and in robust health again.

All the very best to you and Susan - take enormous care of him, Susan.

Thanx again, all of you.

What we need at NEFFA is:
   1) one or two people to help unload the car/setup the booth on Friday afternoon (hours before the festival opens)
   2) one or two people to help breakdown/load the car on Sunday evening
   3) people to stop by, visit, and give us a break to get away from the booth now and again during the festival.

We use a hand truck, but it is still a lot of work. There are around 1000 pounds of CDs plus assorted boxes of books, boxed sets, and stuff for the booth. The tables and display unit travel on top of the car.

The new theory seems to be get 'em out ASAP. The goal appears to be a complete release the day before surgery is cheduled--presumably to reduce custodial costs.

Dick, I've heard that someone from the hospital's business office tells you to get up off the operating table and walk home.

I've haven't had any updates in about a week. I hope that you're doing well, all things considered.

They noticed that more people catch infections of one or another sort in hospitals than anywhere else, so now they try to get you home as early as they can so they don't make ya sick, see?

Glad that you are back on your feet so soon. I recently had a big scare but the doctors told me that I am a very healthy person. When I asked how that could be when I have been hospitalized for unrelated reasons three times in the last two years, they smiled and said, "But you always bounce back! Your recovery is rapid and you regain your strength quickly."

So just remember to be kind to yourself, drink lots of water and eat well.

BTW - Is there someone at home to look after you at this time? Those day to day chores can be cumbersome and make you weary. I hope you are getting support - emotional and otherwise.
