Becoming a fan of Christie Lavin

I looked around the Forum and found several, nay, many threads on her various songs, but nothing about HER. I have just discovered her, where has she been all my life? Anybody here know anything about her (yes I've looked around her sites)? She's the one who did that song about sushi and the one about love in a tall building and the one about camping and the one about bald men... to list but a few of the songs discussed here (and too lazy to link to all of them, but Sushi and Tall Building are still on the Forum)...

I dearly love "Piranha Women of the Avocado Jungle of Death" The woman is certifiable, glad you 'discovered' her.

My daughters and I were setting up the intermission food sales for a Christine Lavin concert. As we waited for the doors to open for the concert we sang a few songs because the hall has great acoustics. And that brought Christine down from her dressing room. She talked with us, sampled the goodies, and then brought the kids some gifts. She is a sweetheart. Lots of fun and very personable.

Hi - Christine is a definite favorite in our Home ! At a concert in Peekskill, NY (quite a few years ago, when she had just released "Beau-Woes") she produced a couple of batons (Majorette-style) and proceeded to wow the crowd with her incredible twirling ! Great stuff ! So much talent in such a petite package ! What's not to love ? Regards, Murph

Dirty Linen has a very nice, comprehensive article that ran just last fall that is published here in part.

(I had to say "published...in part" because I could not, for the life of me, recall how to spell "exerpted " and after a 10 minute search of the dictionary, realized I must not even be in the ballpark!!)

Just click on her name.

Dear Miss Jen:

Aw, g'wan -- you can't even FIND your inner bitch. I think that part got left out at the factory! Please tell me I'm right about this!

How can there be a Christine Lavin thread without at least a passing mention of "Sensitive New Age Guys"?

There, it's mentioned.

I love her as well. I saw her live before I ever heard a recording. I bought a live CD & love it. Then bought one of the Studio CD's & thought it was unbearably overproduced. Later I had that 2nd CD on with random play of some other stuff on my CD changer. All of a sudden those arrangements hit me as so overdone that they're funny. Knowing CL, maybe that was intentional.

The last time I saw her she was using some device that created an autoloop of what she was singing. I liked it for a couple of songs for it's interesting effect, but it wore thin for me pretty quickly.

I love this woman. She is a talented musician and a gifted story teller through her songs. I met her via Fax an telephone. At that time, when I met her, she was working for WUFV on the Sunday morning breakfast show now hosted by John Platt. She among others, BUT,. predominately she is responsible for so many artists being raised to the consciousness of the listeners. She is generous, fun and the kindest person on the Folk circuit today!! I recall being in the audience of one of her concerts when I was unable to breath because she peformaned a song that held me on the brink. .....ahm the Everly Brothers....do you remember holding your breath? This is the final entrity. Christen, I love you.
