Better to finish while it is still funny. Too many shows go on after they run out of ideas.

Someone tried to make me watch it once, several years ago. After about ten minutes I just had to get out. I hated it.

Co-star actress Mayim Bialik is a long-time TV veteran
for all that she is still rather young.

Completing her formal education in between television series,
she got an advanced university degree in,
I believe, neuroscience.

Ms. Bialik's opinion is that this family-friendly show
has promoted STEM educational subjects, esp. for women/ 'girls'.

I understand STEM to mean, erm,
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math[s]
and I am probably mistaken about that.

Anyone care to agree or disagree with the Bialik assessment?

I agree with you, Jos. It was being broadcast on an overseas flight I was on, and it could hardly be avoided. I found it absolutely cringeworthy.

I liked it when it started, but found it increasingly nasty, especially towards the Indian character.

It has its moments. And yeah about Bialik.

They at least have atheist main characters, but then portray them as bonkers, as do most shows, annoyingly.

Tonight's the night, although I won't be watching.

Actor Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon
(this character
supposedly has a diagnosis of Asperger's disorder),
has said that
he was the one who didn't want to renew his contract.

I find it interesting for several reasons. The main writer/ creator, Chuck Lorre, is the guy behind the show "Two and a Half Men" which I find mean-spirited and misogynistic. BBT is a far superior and for me watchable show which induces some respect for intelligence and science, although it still makes a lot of humor out of stereotypes. For instance, it makes anti-semitic and anti-Asian (Indian) jokes at the same time making the observations that it has made anti-semitic and anti-Asian jokes. This is called having your cake and eating it too. So one has to sort of admire Chuck Lorre for getting away with that.

On the whole it's been a good show.

I heartily recommend the current spin-off "Young Sheldon" which has been superbly cast, written, and acted. It is a funny and warm hearted show as few others are.

I found the Good Doctor watchable but not the Pig BANG theory

I watched the finale, which actually was fairly good, but I never watched the show. I still wouldn't want to watch the show as I find the characters to be off putting stereotypes. Cringeworthy is the right definition, leeneia.

I also get the feeling from fans of the show ( who I know personally) that these nerd- braniac characters are reassuring to people who are basically anti intellectual, and who can only abide watching persons of high I Q if they feel socially superior to them.

I tuned in to the finale out of curiosity but will not bother to watch the show in reruns - which I assume will span the airwaves like Law and Order reruns -tho I DO enjoy the L&Os .
