The last politician I give money to was my brother. He was running for Alderman. I gave him 33.3% of his campaign chest -- $25.00. He won by a landslide, but he ain't done nothing for me, probably 'cause I live in Idaho and he's in Illinois. Besides, he's middlin' honest, so's as a politician he stays bought.

I ain't givin' no money to nobody I don't know up close and personal.

OBTW, if you're really a Lieberman supporter, Old Guy, make sure you write "Pay to the order of my BFF Lieberman" on the check, so that it goes to the Republicans' favourite "Democrat". 'Kay?

Cheers,

Bush gave him the kiss of death on tv.Anyone agree?
If the war supporters are going down like ten pins, who's next? Hillary?
The democrats need to stick together if they are going to take back the congress, and Lieberman running as an independent will only split the party. I'm sure he knows that, but his ego is more important than the party. Typical politician. Like boxers, they seldom know when to quit.

I would gladly donate to any fund that would have him cashiered from the Democratic party and possibly the U.S. Weeks ago he was threatening to run as an independent if he lost this primary which in effect sent the message choose me or risk losing this Senate seat. Show him the door.vl

Well, he sent me (via his son, who came visiting) a lovely damascus-bladed knife he made himself. Similar to the one in the picture, only without a label on the deer-antler handle and the "waves" in the steel blade run lengthwise, not up and down.

But he was going to do that anyway. He also made one for himself and for our other brother. This year he's making one for each of his kids, now that he's got the hang of it.

It would certainly have interesting implications, a Lebanese-American and a (albeit Northern European vs. Israeli American) Jew running on the same ticket.

At least, I think I read that Nader's family came from Lebanon. I'm guessing Lieberman's family is Germanic.

In case you Folks are wondering why I support Lieberman, It is because I think the fact that we have political parties us the biggest flaw in or government.

A person virtually can't get elected without support from the Democratic or Republican party. For that support they have to vote the way the party wants them to or risk loosing that support. They can't follow their own beliefs and instincts or pay attention to the electorate. They carefully calculate what position will get them re elected before they speak vote on anything.

It is gang warfare like the Bloods and Crips and we are the innocent bystanders.

#2 Flaw is Lobbyists. They should be outlawed.

I couldn't agree more that most politicians are thugs, and that politics is nothing more than gang warfare by suits.

I also agree about the lobbyists.

But I fail to see what either of those things has to do with Lieberman, except that he is guilty of both.

Old Guy, I remember Truman and his low approval rating, and I've always wondered how he defeated Dewey in 1948.

Since then, he has become one of the great presidents. Curious.

Old Give 'em Hell Harry stuck to his guns. At the time, it did not make him popular but he faired well in the history books.

One anecdote about him that allways comes to mind is:

Truman once referred to a Republican politician's speech as "a bunch of horse manure." When an aide suggested to First Lady Bess Truman that she might want to tell her husband to "tone down" his language, she replied:

"You don't know how many years it's taken me
to get him to say horse manure!"

I don't give a damn about "The Missouri Waltz" but I can't say it out loud because it's the song of Missouri. It's as bad as "The Star-Spangled Banner" so far as music is concerned.

Lieberman: Lamont doesn't understand terror threat
Senator says rival's Iraq policy would give terrorists a victory

Thursday, August 10, 2006; Posted: 4:23 p.m. EDT (20:23 GMT)

Sen. Joe Lieberman Thursday argued that the Democratic party has moved too far to the left.

WATERBURY, Connecticut (AP) -- Sen. Joe Lieberman set out on his go-it-alone re-election campaign Thursday and seized on the terror arrests in Britain to argue that his Democratic opponent, Ned Lamont, does not fully understand the danger facing the nation.

Lieberman's stop in Waterbury was his first public event since losing Tuesday's Democratic primary, dismissing his campaign staff and launching his independent bid.

He seized on the terror plot in Britain to criticize Lamont's opposition to the war in Iraq.

"I'm worried that too many people, both in politics and out, don't appreciate the seriousness of the threat to American security and the evil of the enemy that faces us -- more evil or as evil as Nazism and probably more dangerous than the Soviet communists we fought during the long Cold War," Lieberman said.

"If we just pick up like Ned Lamont wants us to do, get out by a date certain, it will be taken as a tremendous victory by the same people who wanted to blow up these planes in this plot hatched in England. It will strengthen them and they will strike again."

British authorities on Thursday arrested 21 people and said they thwarted a terrorist plot to simultaneously blow up several aircraft heading to the U.S. using explosives smuggled in hand luggage.

"We are at war with a brutal enemy," Lieberman said while visiting a pizza parlor. "How the heck can we be in a battle in which we are fighting as Democrats and Republicans against each other when these terrorists certainly don't distinguish based on party affiliation? They want to kill any and all of us."

Lieberman lost by 10,000 votes in Connecticut's Democratic primary to Lamont, a millionaire businessman who ran on an anti-war platform and accused the incumbent of being too close to President Bush. Top state and national Democrats support Lamont in the November general election.

In a statement, Lamont said that U.S. national security and the nation's ability to fight terrorism have suffered because of the Iraq war.

"Our force readiness to face another threat elsewhere in the world has been diminished because of our preoccupation with Iraq. Both anger at America around the world and the number of terrorists seeking to do us harm have increased," Lamont said. "We are not stronger and safer because of Iraq; just the opposite is unfortunately true."

Lamont said the U.S. needs to focus on catching Osama bin Laden and other terrorist leaders and building "a credible, effective foreign policy with our allies."

Lieberman spoke Thursday in a city that gave him 60 percent of its Democratic vote in the primary. Waterbury, a gritty factory town, also has a history of electing independents: Its mayor was re-elected as a write-in candidate last year after he lost the Democratic primary.

"I think in a primary, you are dealing with a very limited audience," Mayor Michael Jarjura said Thursday.

"Unfortunately, here in Connecticut, the Democratic Party has shifted, I think wrongly, too far to the left and that limited audience does not reflect the majority view of the people of the state of Connecticut," he said.

Connecticut voters have embraced other independent candidates. Former Gov. Lowell Weicker, a former Republican who lost his Senate seat to Lieberman in 1988, ran for governor as an independent in 1990 and won.

Joe Lieberman is a Republican. He should declare himself as such.
He is pro-Israel and this is part of his stance supporting war.
He is not a peacemaker although he claims to be.

I hope others will not make the mistake of supporting his campaign.

Joe Lieberman has been taking campaign contributions from AIPAC (American-Israel, but see if you can find ANY benefit to America!)for years. He has supported Israeli interests above those of the USA. Voters are mostly dumb but they finally figgered (or fingered)the old fraud out.

Should Joe lose now as an Independent he will still stick to his guns. Defeat is not in his vocabulary.

In fact if defeated again he will run for and be elected to his own private Congress. THis way he can chair the most powerful and important commitees as well as make appointments he deems necessary for the properity and security of his career.
