Greetings! Did anyone in the States see the piece on CBS Sunday morning about Ramblin' Jack Elliot? I thought it was great ! Seemed to have been done by an obvious folkie. Come to think of it, Charles Osgood's banjo-playing and singing ain't so bad, so I shouldn't be surprised that the piece showed a good knowledge of folk music and Ramblin' Jack. He was portrayed with gentle humor and respect. It's so good to see mainstream media treating folk music with the dignity and respect it deserves. I'd be interested to find out what any of you think of it, or of folk music in the mainstream media in general. Cheers, Teresa

We certainly don't see much mainstream attention paid to folk music. I fact, most record stores (I know they should be called CD stores now, but I refuse to give in.)clump folk in with some other category, usually country or blues. Even many internet sites ignore the fact that there is an audience for folk music out there. I wish I had seen Jack Elliot. He's the real deal.

Teresa is right. CBS did a really nice piece on Ramblin' Jack. I'm sure more comments to come...Glad I stayed home from church and just happen to catch it.

I just had a thought, which is sort of an aside. ... Does anyone know if Charles Osgood, the reporter on this piece and host of "CBS Sunday Morning" has recorded any of his various parodies? I've heard them on CBS radio from time to time--kinda corny, but I like corny. Cheers, Teresa
