It seems to be easy to wind people up on the 'Cat'. But who wants to and why?. If you know someone is winding you up...go to another thread, preferably the music ones which are mostly non-contentious and for most of us where the usefuil information is. Look to your own motives for what you post and forget personal attacks as they are fruitless in the long run. Most of the people who have posted on this ....in essence...contentious thread are respectful and considerate...lets just keep it that way...please. If you come to this thread you are asking to be wound up. This is my last visit here.

That's the mindset of quite a few here. These troll watchers or troll identifiers contstantly discredit themselves. What's hilarious to me, is how much they just don't realize it.

I dunno. It seems that there are some here who label others "troll," simply because the others post conservative ideas. If it's ideas people are posting, we generally feel compelled to leave them untouched even if the community disagrees with those ideas - as long as the ideas are from the person who posts, expressed in his or her own words. If the ideas are copy-pasted from another source, that's another matter. And when the ideas repeat word-for-word what has been posted over and over again, they become free game for deletion.

If you want to say something at Mudcat, say it - in your own words. If the only thing you have to say is [CTRL-C] or just submitting a blank message, don't be surprised if your post is dealt with by [CTRL-X].

But remember that free posting of ideas is allowed and encouraged - as always, personal attacks are verboten (even if we don't find and delete every single one of them).

I gather that we have a new trend, that there are a few people who advocate combatting "trolls" by posting blank messages, or meaningless strings of numbers, or messages that cover an entire screen with empty space, or by posting four or five one-line messages in a row. I'm sorry, but none of those tactics do anything but call attention to the trolls - and they tend to be an abuse of Mudcat and a waste of time for the rest of us. They may be ostensibly innocuous - but they're just garbage that serves to call attention to the very troll posts that are considered so distasteful. So, yeah, if you want to flood Mudcat, expect to get deleted or temporarily blocked. The rest of us don't have to put up with that. Common sense should tell you that - we shouldn't have to specifically state it in a rule.
