Normally, with Doug buying, I would opt for a glass of Charles Shaw wine and ask Doug for his recommendation as to variety, but it's a pretty hot day here in Seattle. 90 degrees. So that would seem to call for a nice, cold beer.

Just recently I was introduced to a brown ale brewed in Montana that just made it's appearance here. Moose Drool.

Sounds ghastly, but it's a great beer!

Thanks, Doug!

here's a song...

Half a bee, philosophically,
Must, ipso facto, half not be.
But half the bee has got to be
Vis a vis, its entity. D'you see?

But can a bee be said to be
Or not to be an entire bee
When half the bee is not a bee
Due to some ancient injury?

La dee dee, one two three,
Eric the half a bee.
A B C D E F G,
Eric the half a bee.

Is this wretched demi-bee,
Half-asleep upon my knee,
Some freak from a menagerie?
No! It's Eric the half a bee!

Fiddle de dum, Fiddle de dee,
Eric the half a bee.
Ho ho ho, tee hee hee,
Eric the half a bee.

I love this hive, employee-ee,
Bisected accidentally,
One summer afternoon by me,
I love him carnally.

He loves him carnally,
Semi-carnally.

well - all male bees are half-bees; (They are haploid, females are diploid)

Of course many species of bees the female does manage to eviscarate the male during the mating flight - so then the poor guy is only half a half bee.

I don't care if it rains or freezes
Long as I got my plastic Jesus
Sitting on the dashboard of my car

Comes in colors, pink and pleasant
Glows in the dark because it's iridescent
Take it with you when you travel far

Get yourself a sweet Madonna
Dressed in rhinestone, sitting on a
Pedestal of abalone shells

Going ninety, I ain't scary
Because I got the Virgin Mary
Assuring me that I won't go to Hell

There'll be blue birds over
The white cliffs of Dover,
Tomorrow, just you wait and see.

There'll be love and laughter
And peace ever after
Tomorrow, when the world is free.

The shepherd will tend his sheep,
The valley will bloom again
And Jimmy will go to sleep,
In his own little room again.

There'll be blue birds over
The white cliffs of Dover,
Tomorrow, just you wait and see.

Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
And rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers and me.
Who said that every wish would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that, and someone believed it,
And look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing
And what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers, and me.
All of us under its spell,
We know that it's probably magic...
... Have you been half asleep? And have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name.
... Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors?
The voice might be one and the same
I've heard it too many times to ignore it
It's something that I'm s'posed to be...
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers, and me.

Laa, da daa dee da daa daa,
La laa la la laa dee daa doo

MMario,

the rest of the words...

I'll never forget
the people I met
Braving those angry skies
I remember well
as the shadows fell
The light of hope in their eyes
And though I'm far way,
I still can hear them say,
"Thumbs Up, 'Cause when the dawn comes up

(chorus)
There'll be bluebirds over
The White cliffs of Dover
Tomorrow, just you wait and see
There'll be love and laughter
and peace ever after
Tomorrow when the world is free.

The Shepherd will tend his sheep
The valley will bloom again
And Jimmy will go to sleep
In his own little room again

There'll be bluebirds over

Tomorrow just you wait and see.

Come sing a song with me
Come sing a song with me
Come sing a song with me
That I might know your mind.

Chorus:
        And I'll bring you hope
When hope is hard to find
And I'll bring you a song of love
And a rose in the winter time.

Come walk in rain with me
Come walk in rain with me
Come walk in rain with me
That I might know your mind.

Chorus:

Come dream a dream with me
Come dream a dream with me
Come dream a dream with me

you had all the chorus. It's like Daisy Belle- ( Bicycle Built for Two) Most know the chorus, but the verses are rarely sung.

I have got a sweet -ie known as Su -sie
In the words of Shake -speare she's a "wow"
Though all of you
May know her too
I'd like to shout right now:

Chorus:
If you knew Su -sie like I know Su -sie
Oh! Oh! Oh! what a girl!
There's none so clas -sy as this fair las -sie
Oh! Oh! Ho -ly Mos -es! what a chas -sis!
We went ri -ding She did -n't balk
Back from You -kers I'm the one that had to walk!
If you knew Su -sie like I know Su -sie
Oh! Oh! what a girl.

Susie has a perfect reputation.
No one ever saw her on a spree.
Nobody knows where Susie goes.
Nobody knows but me.

If you knew Susie like I know Susie,
Oh! Oh! Oh! What a girl!
She wears long tresses
And nice tight dresses.
Oh! Oh! What a future she possesses!
[Out in public, how she can yawn!
In a parlor, you would think the war was on.]*
If you knew Susie like I know Susie,
Oh! Oh! What a girl!

1. I'm dreaming dreams.
I'm scheming schemes.
I'm building castles high.
They're born anew.
Their days are few,
Just like a sweet butterfly;
And as the daylight is dawning,
They come again in the morning.

CHORUS: I'm forever blowing bubbles,
Pretty bubbles in the air.
They fly so high,
Nearly reach the sky,
Then like my dreams they fade and die.
Fortune's always hiding.
I've looked ev'rywhere.
I'm forever blowing bubbles,
Pretty bubbles in the air.

2. When shadows creep,
When I'm asleep,
To lands of hope I stray;
Then at daybreak,
When I awake,
My bluebird flutters away.
Happiness, you seem so near me!
Happiness, come forth and cheer me!

CHORUS

Flat on his back
The cook's down in the galley
Drinking rum extract
Swinging in the rigging is the brilliant engineer
He's converted every piston head
To pumping Aussie beer

We've got a pie-eyed aboriginy
Playing on his didgeree
Do you hear the captain
Whistling the blues?
A banjo pickin' bos'un
And a crew that hates the ocean
On the Sydney Harbour Ferry Boat
Loaded up with booze!

Please make mine Sahkeapeare Stout. . .

THE LUMBERMAN'S ALPHABET

A is for axes that you may all know;
And B is for boys that make them all go;
C is for choppers so early begun
And D is for danger we often stand in.

CHORUS :

'Tis merry, 'tis merry, 'tis merry are we
No mortal on earth, so happy as we.
A derry, Lo derry, Ring derry dum.
Give us shantymen's grog and there'll nothing go wrong.

E is the echo that through the woods rang:
F is the foreman, head one of our gang;
G is the grindstone so merrily goes round
And H js the handle, so smoothly 'tis worn.

I is the Iron that mark-ed the pine;
J is the Jov-al that's never behind;
K is the keen edge our axes we keep
And L is the lice that over us creep.

M is the moss we patch-ed the cracks
And N is the needle we patch-ed our pants;
O is the owl that hooteth at night
And P is the pine that always falls right.

Q is the quarrel we never allow;
R is the river we float our logs down
S is the sleds so stout and so strong
And T is the teams that go jog 'em along.

U is the use we put our teams to;
V is the valley we draw our logs through;
W is the woods we leave in the spring
And this is all I am going to sing.

Now, this ain't the version I leaned from Da, who worked in a camp in the thirties, but it's close. Derry hiiii, derry doooe, derry higheee, derry dum, give the shanty by's whiskey, there's work ta be donnne.

Sonnet 07/11/02                        DCCLXV
(33 of 257 to my current muse...)

To each day comes a night, when stars appear,
In promenade across the sky. I see
Those fixed forms, and dream that I might free
Just one, to offer muse: A beacon, near
To hope's harbor, that heart might use to steer
Desires. Thoughts wander without course, to be
Tossed upon page. How can I ask that she
Be what I seek, when I still heart-wreck fear?

To each night comes a dawn, when sun returns,
With harsh illumination. Is the sight
More real than night's desires? This soul now spurns
Cold fact: I would for dreams of passion fight.
In muse I find my focus: My heart learns
Of sun and stars, Love is the greater light.

Well you've heard the story of the hot-rod race that fatal day,
when the Ford and the Mercury went out to play.
This is the inside story I'm here to say,
I was the kid that was a-drivin' that Model-A.

It's got a Lincoln motor and it's really souped up,
and that Model-A body makes it look like a pup.
It's got twelve cylinders, and uses them all,
with an overdrive that just won't stall.
It's got a four-barrel carb and dual exhaust,
4-11 gears, she can really get lost.
Got safety tubes and I'm not scared,
the brakes are good and the tires are fair.

We left San Pedro late one night,
the moon and the stars were shining bright,
everything went fine up the Grapevine hill,
we was passin' cars like they was standin' still.
Then all of a sudden, like a flick of an eye,
a Cadillac sedan had passed us by.
The remark was made "there's the car for me,"
but by then the taillights were all you could see.

Well the fellers ribbed me for bein' behind,
so I started to make that Lincoln unwind.
I took my foot off the gas and man alive,
I shoved it down into overdrive.
Well I wound it up to a hundred and ten,
twisted the speedometer cable off the end.
I had my foot keyed clear to the floor,
said "that's all there is, there ain't no more."

I went around a corner and I passed a truck,
I whispered a prayer, just for luck.
The fenders was clickin' a guardrail post
the guys beside me were white as a ghost.
I guess they'd thought I'd lost my sense,
the telephone poles looked like a picket fence.
They said "slow down, I see spots,"
the lines on the road just looked like dots.
Smoke was rollin' outta the back,
when I started to gain on that Cadillac.

I knew I could catch him, and hoped I could pass,
But when I did, I'd be short on gas.
We went around a corner with the tires on the side,
you could feel the tension, man what a ride!
I said "hold on, I got a license to fly,"
and the Cadillac pulled over and let me go by.

Then all of a-sudden, the rods started knockin',
when down in the dip, she started a-rockin'.
I looked in my mirror 'n' red lights was blinkin'.
The cops was after my hot rod Lincoln.

Well, they arrested me, and put me in jail.
I called my pop to go my bail.
He said "son, you're gonna drive me to drinkin'
if you don't stop drivin' that hot rod Lincoln."

The night was mighty dark
So you could hardly see
For the moon refused to shine.
Couple sittin' underneath a willow tree
For love they pine.
Little maid is kinds 'fraid of darkness
So she says "I guess I'll go"
Boy begins to sigh,
Looks up at the sky
To tell the moon his little tale of woe
Oh
Shine on shine on harvest moon
Up in the sky
I ain't had no lovin' since
January, February, June or July
Snow time ain't no time to stay around and spoon
So shine on shine on harvest moon
For me and my gal.

Nothing for me thanks. I am still recovering from last weekend.

How can you tell when a guinea pig is pleased
When he hasn't got a tail to wag?
All other animals you will find
Have got a little tail stuck on behind.
If they'd only put a tail on a guinea pig,
And finished off a decent job,
The price of the animal would then go up
From a guinea up to 30 bob!

LTS

bob - shillings - UK old money.. I don't remember it... I'm not that old.

While you'd druther hustle

Out in the land of San Domingo,
Lived a girl named "Oh By Jingo"

YA.YA..YATA YATA YA..YA..Boom-chika-boom chika boom chika boom.
From the hills and from the Marshes, came the little, "Oh By Goshes"
Ya...ya...yata yata ya ya ..Boom-chika-boom chika boom chika boom.
They all spoke with a certain "Lingo"
And they all loved "Oh by Jingo"
And every night, they sang in the pale moonlight,

(chorus
"Oh by Jingo, Oh by Gosh , by Gee"
Buzz around, Buzz around, keep a-Buzzin' round,
Oh By Jingo, Gee what you do to me.
We can build a little hut
You will be my favorite nut
Well have a lot o' little "Oh By Gollies" and we'll put them in the "Follies"
Oh,By Jingo, Oh by Gosh, By Jove
Oh By Jingo, Gee won't you be my love?"
Then they all ran around singin', "Oh by Jingo"
"Gee by Gosh, by Jimminee Ringo"
"Oh by Jingo, Gee you're the one for me."

SPOKEN: You've heard of Florence Nightingale, Grace Darling and the rest.
You've all seen Greta Garbo and her bosom friend, Mae West;
But there's a little lady I want you all to meet.
She's working on munitions and she lives just down the street.

She can't pretend to be a great celebrity,
But still, she's most important in her way.
The job she has to do may not seem like much to you,
But all the same, I'm very proud to say:

SUNG: She's the girl that makes the thing
That drills the hole that holds the spring
That drives the rod that turns the knob
That works the thing-ummy-bob.
She's the girl that makes the thing
That holds the oil that oils the ring
That takes the shank that moves the crank
That works the thing-ummy-bob.

It's a ticklish sort of job
Making a thing for a thing-ummy-bob,
Especially when you don't know what it's for;
But it's the girl that makes the thing
That drills the hole that holds the spring
That works the thing-ummy-bob that makes the engines roar;
And it's the girl that makes the thing
That holds the oil that oils the ring
That works the thing-ummy-bob that's going to win the war.

SPOKEN: She's not what you would call a heroine at all.
I don't suppose you'll even know her name;
And though she'll never boast of her important post,
She strikes a blow for Britain just the same.

(REPEAT THE SUNG PORTION ABOVE.)

I thank you.

Subject: Lyr Add: THE GREAT AMERICAN BUM
From: beardedbruce
Date: 05 Aug 05 - 07:08 PM

Come all you jolly jokers if you want to have some fun
And listen while I relate the tale of the great American bum.
From the east and west and north and south like a swarm of bees they come.
They sleep in the dirt and they wear a shirt that's dirty and full of crumbs.

(chorus)
I am a bum, a jolly old bum And I live like a royal Turk.
And I have good luck and I bum all my chuck And the heck with the man that works.

It's early in the morning when the dew is on the ground,
A bum arises from his nest and gazes all around.
While going east they're loaded, and going west sealed tight,
"I reckon we'll have to ride aboard the fast express tonight."

(chorus)

Well, I met a man the other day that I never met before,
And he asked me if I wanted a job a-shovelin' iron ore.
I asked him what the wages was and he said: "ten cents a ton."
I said: "Old fellow, scratch your …neck, I'd rather be on the bum.

(chorus)

Oh, lady would you be kind enough to give me somethin' to eat,
A piece of bread and butter and a tender slice of meat.
Some apple pie and custard just to tickle me appetite,
For really I'm so hungry, don't know where I'll sleep tonight.

(chorus)

Beep beep beep beep
His horn went beep beep beep
While riding in my Cadillac
What to my surprise
A little Nash Rambler was following me
About one third my size
The guy musta wanted to pass me up
As he kept on tooting his horn
Ill show him that a Cadillac is not a car to scorn
Beep beep beep beep
His horn went beep beep beep

I pushed my foot down to the floor
To give the guy the shake
But the little Nash Rambler stayed right behind
He still had on his brake
He musta thought his car had more guts
As he kept on tooting his horn
Ill show him that a Cadillac is not a car to scorn
Beep beep beep beep
His horn went beep beep beep

My car went into passing gear
And we took off with gust
Soon we were going ninety
Musta left him in the dust
When I peeked in the mirror of my car
I couldnt believe my eyes
The little Nash Rambler was right behind
Youd think that guy could fly
Beep beep beep beep
His horn went beep beep beep

Now we were doing a hundred and ten
This certainly was a race
For a Rambler to pass a Caddy
Would be a big disgrace
The guy musta wanted to pass me up
As he kept on tooting his horn
Ill show him that a Cadillac is not a car to scorn
Beep beep beep beep
His horn went beep beep beep

Now were going a hundred twenty
As fast as I can go
The Rambler pulled along side of me
As if we were going slow
The fella rolled down his window
And yelled for me to hear
Hey buddy how do I get this car outa second gear?

The punkoid staggered in, dripping rain and mud from the festival campsite. Wearily, he laid his mandolin case against the bar, and sighed heavily.

"Hey bartender - do you have any Laphroaig?"

"It's all gone!?! Ranger1 drank it ALL?"

The punkoid collapsed over the bar, exhausted by pusing one car too many in the knee-deep mud of the campsite.

"You got Fighting Cock? Make it a large one..."

A sip later, and he began to sing... sing... sing...

"Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh Ah'm a lumberjack and Ah'm okay
Ah sleep all night and Ah work all day..."

I haven't done this one in a while....

There was a knight, a lusty knight, a randy knight was he,
He had eleven mistresses and bastards thirty-three...
He indulged in ev'ry excess,in each licenctious whim,
So you should have seen his jaw drop when a unicorn chose him!

Please go away my gold-maned friend, be gone I do declare!
My reputation will be shot with all the ladies fair.
I fear you've got the wrong man, of my friend with coat so fine...
I haven't been a virgin since I reached the age of nine!

I've led a very lusty life, summer winter fall or spring
I have no peers in "swords-manship",I will rut with anything!
So go away fair unicorn, if not I'll be grief stricken --
The rampant cock upon my shield will turn into a chicken!

The ladies will reject me thinking I'm just bravado.
There must be twenty other knights with chastity their motto.
So go away fair unicorn, please leave me alone...
The ladies will not lay with me with you for chaperone!

Please go away my gold-maned friend, be gone and do no tarry.
You'll probably find the man you seek up in the monastery.
No wait, they're not the kind of monk who are celibately sleeping,
Instead of Mass and priestly vows it's mistresses they're keeping!

The unicorn said not a word but with a soft "tap tap"
She curved her hooves around his legs, put her head upon his lap.
The knight looked in her deep brown eyes and said, "Why me? why you?"
Then the unicorn demurely said "                   !"

Sonnet 09/05/01                                DXLVIII

I read your words, and my dreams try to feel
The coolness of soft silk, and warmth of skin:
I would reach out, and with sweet kisses seal
My heart, that I might heart's desire win.
As soft, and subtle scented as a rose,
But without thorns, you pull me to your soul.
I touch, with lips and tongue, yet hope heart knows
How much these dreams can of my hopes take toll.
I reach to touch you, but words do not hold
The softness of your lips, nor feel of hair.
How can I taste skin, or let fingers fold
With yours, when only written words we share?
Would you, then, drive me crazy with desire
When distance and some years prevent love's fire?

Sonnet 23/05/01                        DLVIII

I cannot alter Time's slow march, to speed
The days, or slow the hours. If I could change
The years, I would not stay so far, nor need
To censure dreams, and desires rearrange.
I cannot send what you deserve, to ease
The effort of your days. Can words lend care,
From one as I? How can my verses please,
Or offer solace? Should I dead dreams share?
I cannot offer heart, though your words reach
Into my dreams: I have no right to ask
That you care for me, nor can I heart touch
To see beyond those dreams, or longing mask.
I see a flame in you, to light my soul,
Yet cannot reach to it, or time control.

When I'm happy, when I'm happy,
Singing all the while,
I don't need nobody then
To show me how to smile.
When I've been out on the spree,
Toddling down the street,
With this little melody
Everyone I greet;

Show me the way to go home,
I'm tired and I want to go to bed.
I had a little drink about an hour ago,
And it's gone right to my head.
Wherever I may roam,
On land or sea or foam.
You will always hear me singing this song:

Show me the way to go home...

and she was a bunny little honey bee
Billy Bumble used to mumble 'round the rosemary
Where she would meet him, greet him, and then treat him to some honey sprees.
Then start a-buzzin' in a dozen diff'rent lovin' keys:

CHORUS: Be my little baby bumblebee,
(Buzz around, buzz around, keep a-buzzin' 'round.)
Bring home all the honey, love, to me.
(Little bee, little bee, little bee.)
Let me spend the happy hours
Roving with you 'mongst the flow'rs,
And when we got where no one else can see,
(Cuddle up, cuddle up, cuddle up.)
Be my little baby bumblebee.
(Buzz around, buzz around, keep a-buzzin' 'round.)
We'll be just has happy as can be.
(You and me, you and me, you and me.)
Honey, keep a-buzzin', please.
I've got a dozen cousin bees,
But I want you to be my baby bumblebee.

to call on her mama and her papa bee.
Papa bee said "Goodness me!" and mama said, "We'll see
If you can pay your way, for ev'ry day the price of honey grows dear!"
But little Queenie said: "That for Sweeney," and whispered in his ear: CHORUS

Oh! The night that I struck New York
I went out for a quiet walk
Folks who are "on to" the city say
Better by far that I took Broadway
But I was out to enjoy the sights
There was the Bow'ry ablaze with lights
I had one of the devil's own nights
I'll never go there any more.

cho: The Bow'ry, the Bow'ry
They say such things and they do strange things,
On the Bow'ry! The Bow'ry!
I'll never go there any more.

I had walked but a block or two,
When up came a fellow and me he knew;
Then a policeman came walking by
Chased him away and I asked him, "Why?"
"Wasn't he pulling your leg?" said he,
Said I, "He never laid hands on me!"
"Get off the Bow'ry, you Yep (fool)!" said he
I'll never go there any more.

I went into an auction store,
I never saw any thieves before;
First he sold me a pair of socks
Then said he, "How much for the box"?
Someone said,"two dollars," I said "Three."
He emptied the box and gave it to me,
"I sold you the box, not the socks," said he,
I'll never go there any more.

I went into a concert hall,
I didn't have a good time at all;
Just the minute that I sat down
Girls began singing "New Coon in Town,"
I got up mad and spoke out free,
"Somebody put that man out," said she;
A man called a bouncer attended to me,
I'll never go there anymore.

I went into a barber shop,
He talked till I thought he would never stop
I said, "Cut it short," he misunderstood
Clipped down my hair just as close as he could;
He shaved with a razor that scratched like a pin,
Took off my whiskers and most of my chin;
That was the worst scrape I ever got in
I'll never go there any more.

I struck a place that they called a "dive,"
I was in luck to get out alive
When the policeman heard my woes,
Saw my black eyes and my battered nose.
"You've been held up!" said the "copper" fly!
"No, sir! But I've been knocked down!" said I;
Then he laughed, tho' I couldn't see why!
I'll never go there any more.

Last night I met a man from Mars, and he was very sad.
He said, "Won't you help me find my girl friend, please?"
So I asked him, "What does she look like?",
And the man from Mars said, she's

Eight foot two, solid blue,
Five transistors in each shoe,
Has anybody seen my gal?
Lucite nose, rust-proof toes,
And when her antenna glows,
She's the cutest Martian gal.

You know she promised me, recently,
She wouldn't stray,
But came the dawn, she was gone
Eighteen billion miles away.

Her steering wheel has sex appeal,
Her evening gown is stainless steel,
Has anybody seen my gal?
How I miss all the bliss
Of her sweet hydraulic kiss,
Has anybody seen my gal?
Lovely shape, custom built,
Squeeze her wrong and she says "tilt",
Has anybody seen my gal?

She does the cutest tricks, with her six stereo ears.
When she walks by, spacemen cry,
'Specially when she shifts her gears.

If she's found, rush like mad,
Put her on a launching pad,
Down at Cape Canaveral,
And shoot me back my cutie,
My supersonic beauty,
Send me back my Martian gal.

I went down to St. James Infirmary
To see my baby there,
She was lyin' on a long white table,
So sweet, so cool, so fair.

Went up to see the doctor,
"She's very low," he said;
Went back to see my baby
Good God! She's lying there dead.

I went down to old Joe's barroom,
On the corner by the square
They were serving the drinks as usual,
And the usual crowd was there.

On my left stood old Joe McKennedy,
And his eyes were bloodshot red;
He turned to the crowd around him,
These are the words he said:

Let her go, let her go, God bless her;
Wherever she may be
She may search the wide world over
And never find a better man than me

Oh, when I die, please bury me
In my ten dollar Stetson hat;
Put a twenty-dollar gold piece on my watch chain
So my friends'll know I died standin' pat.

Get six gamblers to carry my coffin
Six chorus girls to sing me a song
Put a twenty-piece jazz band on my tail gate
To raise Hell as we go along

Now that's the end of my story
Let's have another round of booze
And if anyone should ask you just tell them
I've got the St. James Infirmary blues

. Night time am a-fallin'. Ev'rything is still;
And the moon am a-shinin' from above.
Cupid am a-callin' ev'ry Jack and Jill.
It's just about the time for making love.
Someone is awaiting all alone for me.
No more hesitating; I must go and see.
How de do, dear. It's with you, dear,
That I love to be.

CHORUS: Put your arms around me, Honey. Hold me tight.
Huddle up and cuddle up with all your might.
Oh, babe, won't you roll dem eyes,
Eyes that I just idolize?
When they look at me, My heart begins to float;
Then it starts a-rockin' like a motorboat.
Oh! Oh! I never knew
Any girl like you.

2. Music am a-playin' such a "lovin' glide"
That my feet keep a-moving to and fro;
And with you a-swayin', I'll be satisfied
To dance until we hear the roosters crow.
I love seven-'leven. I love chicken, too.
Nearest thing to heaven is to be with you;
For I'm spoony, moony, loony, but my love is true.

Are you lonesome tonight
do you miss me tonight?
Are you sorry we drifted apart?
Does your memory stray
to a bright sunny day
When I kissed you and called you sweetheart?
Do the chairs in your parlor seem empty and bare?
Do you gaze at your doorstep and picture me there?
Is your heart filled with pain
shall I come back again?
Tell me dear are you lonesome tonight?

I wonder if you're lonesome tonight
You know someone said that the world's a stage
And each must play a part.
Fate had me playing in love you as my sweet heart.
Act one was when we metI loved you at first glance
You read your line so cleverly and never missed a cue
Then came act two you seemed to change and you acted strange
And why I'll never know.
Honey you lied when you said you loved me
And I had no cause to doubt you.
But I'd rather go on hearing your lies
Than go on living without you.
Now the stage is bare and I'm standing there
With emptiness all around
And if you won't come back to me
Then they can bring the curtain down.

Is your heart filled with pain
shall I come back again?
Tell me dear are you lonesome tonight?

He remembers the first time he met her
He remembers the first thing she said
He remembers the first time he held her
And the night that she came to his bed

He remembers her sweet way of saying
"Honey has something gone wrong?"
He remembers the fun and the teasing
And the reason he wrote her this song.

I'll give you a daisy a day, dear
I'll give you a daisy a day
I'll love you until the rivers run still
And the four winds we know blow away.

They would walk down the street in the evening
And for years I would see them go by
And their love that was more
than the clothes that they wore
Could be seen in the gleam of their eyes.

As a kid they would take me for candy
And I loved to go tagging along
We'd hold hands while we walked to the corner
And the old man would sing her his song.

I'll give you a daisy a day, dear
I'll give you a daisy a day
I'll love you until the rivers run still
And the four winds we know blow away.

Now he walks down the street in the evening
And he stops by the old candy store
And I somehow believe he's believing
He's holding her hand like before.

For he feels all her love walking with him
And he smiles at the things she might say
Then the old man walks up to the hilltop
And gives her a daisy a day.

I'll give you a daisy a day, dear
I'll give you a daisy a day
I'll love you until the rivers run still
And the four winds we know blow away.

When all the world is a hopeless jumble
And the raindrops tumble all around
Heaven opens a magic lane
When all the clouds darken up the skyway
There's a rainbow highway to be found
Leading from your window pane
To a place behind the sun
Just a step beyond the rain

Somewhere over the rainbow way up high
There's a land that I've heard of once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true

Some day I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me
Somewhere over the rainbow blue birds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow
Why oh why can't I?

A winter's day
In a deep and dark December;
I am alone,
Gazing from my window to the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

I've built walls,
A fortress deep and mighty,
That none may penetrate.
I have no need of friendship; friendship causes pain.
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

Don't talk of love,
But I've heard the words before;
It's sleeping in my memory.
I won't disturb the slumber of feelings that have died.
If I never loved I never would have cried.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

I have my books
And my poetry to protect me;
I am shielded in my armor,
Hiding in my room, safe within my womb.
I touch no one and no one touches me.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

And a rock feels no pain;
And an island never cries.

My wife's name is Barbara Ann. Who was it who did that song back then, The Beach Boys? Anyway, Barbara has headed up a peace group in the past, and has conducted workshops in non-violence and conflict resolution.

Those times when someone with a warped sense of humor insisted on singing that song at her were the only times she has ever committed murder.

It was automation, I know
That was what was making the factory go
It was IBM
It was Univac
It was all those gears going
Clickity clack, dear
I thought automation was keen
Till you were replaced by a ten-ton machine
It was a computer that tore us apart, dear
Automation broke my heart.

There's an RCA 5-0-3
Standing next to me, dear, where you used to be
Doesn't have your smile
Doesn't have your shape,
Just a bunch of punch cards and light bulbs and tape, dear
You're a girl who's soft, warm and sweet
But you're only human and that's obsolete
Though I'm very fond of that new 5-0-3, dear
Automation's not for me.

It was automation, I'm told
That s why I got fired and I'm out in the cold
How could I have known
When the 5-0-3
Started in to blink it was winking at me, dear

I thought it was just some mishap
When it sidled over and sat on my lap
But when it said "l love you " and gave me a hug, dear
That's when I pulled out. . . its plug.

Strangers in my soup, that's what I found there
Little tiny things that swim around there
Looking down I see them looking up at me.

Strange things can be seen, they're scattered sparsely,
Small things that are green, but are not parsley
In my soup they've made their little aquacade.

Soup was meant to be
Completely free of things, extraneous debris,
Except for now and then, a noodle or some rice,
But these things are not nice,
See them swimming, thrashing thriving,
Holy Smokes, they're scuba diving
(Oh my god)
In my bouillabaisse I looked and then I
Saw a tiny face with two antennae
And I heard him say, "Man, the soup is good today,"

I let out a whoop
I hollered, "Waiter, there are strangers in my soup"
And when he came I said "Now I'm a connoisseur,
I ordered soupe de jour,"
And he said, "Look I'm just a waiter,
You need an exterminator.

So you're a connoisseur, I knew you dug soup
I brought you soupe de jour--today it's bug soup
That explains the group of strangers in your soup.

Subject: Lyr Add: THOSE WERE THE DAYS (Gene Raskin)
From: beardedbruce
Date: 19 Aug 05 - 08:13 PM

Once upon a time, there was a tavern
Where we used to raise a glass or two
Remember how we laughed away the hours
And dreamed of all the great things we would do

Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way.
La la la la...
Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days

Then the busy years went rushing by us
We lost our starry notions on the way
If by chance I'd see you in the tavern
We'd smile at one another and we'd say

Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way.
La la la la...
Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days

Just tonight I stood before the tavern
Nothing seemed the way it used to be
In the glass, I saw a strange reflection
Was that lonely woman really me

Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way.
La la la la...
Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days

Through the door, there came familiar laughter
I saw your face and heard you call my name
Oh, my friend, we're older but no wiser
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same

Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way.
La la la la...Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days

EARLY ONE EVENING

Early one evening, just as the pubs were opening,
A traveller came walking down a dark and rainy street,
Noticed the door ajar,
Stepped into the public bar,
"Landlord, I would like a drink, and something nice to eat".

"I fancy some some crusty bread, and roast beef of old England,
Butter from the churn, and tangy home made pickles too,
And if you think you could,
Draw some bitter from the wood,
I'd be most content to quaff a foaming pint or two".

"I'll sit here by your open fire, and contemplate infinity,
The quiet of your hostelry shall creep into my heart,
And if a regular,
Should chance to step into the bar,
Mayhap I'll engage him in a contest with the dart".

"Come in", said the landlord, "I got prepacked fishpaste sandwiches,
And soya sausage substitute I purchase by the ton,
And should yer fancy it,
I might defrost a bit,
And plaster it wiv ketchup, on a supermarket bun".

"I'll sling yer a plastic pot of supersparkle Reddibru,
As advertised on telly, by a famous rugby scrum,
No filfy barrels 'ere,
We serves 'ygenic beer,
Safely paralysed inside these alyerminium drums".

"Sit dahn by the fire squire, I'll switch the logs on right away,
Or maybe you'd prefer to play my latest fruit machine,
Free cherries in a row,
That should set yer 'eart aglow,
Or 'ow abaht me jukebox, that should really set the scene".

The traveller sat down beside the polystyrene inglenook,
The plastic beams vibrated to the electronic sound,
Took a bite, began to chew,
Sank his pint of Reddibru,
Gave a ghastly gurgle, and fell dead upon the ground.

"Oh dear", said the landlord, as he switched his colour telly on,
"Anuvver fatal accident, the fird this week, I fear,
If they can't 'old their own,
Why don't they stay at 'ome,
MY GAWD, YER DON'T 'ARF GET SOME FUNNY CUSTOMERS IN 'ERE".

Researched (nicked) from a Fred Wedlock album. I'm not sure, but it might be another Miles Wooton.

Don T.

P.S. Of course none of this applies to the Mudcat Tavern.

It is Miles Wooton... Fred Wedlock stole it, recorded it and didn't credit him.

Have this....

There's a lady who's sure
All that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh ooh ooh ooh-ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven
There's a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook
There's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it makes me wonder
There's a feeling I get
When I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen
Rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking
Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it really makes me wonder
And it's whispered that soon
If we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn
For those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter
Ohh-ooh ohh-ooh ohh-ooh ohh-ooh ohh hoh
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
Don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May-Queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by
But in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on
And it makes me wonder
Ahhh, hoh-hoh
Your head is humming and it won't go
In case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow
And did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind

Guitar Solo

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How ev'rything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all,
To be a rock and not to roll
And she's buying a stairway to heaven......

Of course... should have done what I did... took the whole week!!!

(Manitas doesn't know I took the week.... I wasn't going to until last Thursday.... I just knew I needed some time here alone to recover from a week of Limpit!).

Consequently, I'm still in my nightshirt and about to start on breakfast at 11.00am!

Just keep repeating this mantra... "tent then pub, tent then pub....."

As Liz and Khatt stagger off in the direction of Towersey Village in
comes a Hairy Oaf laden down with Instrument cases , which he piles in the corner and demands at LEAST a quart of Breakspears . Having taken a large swig , he drags a strange long necked 'thing' out of its case , tweaks the tuning , and launches into what passes for a song !

The Day was fine , the sky was blue , and up above , a Heinkel flew
And in the Ops room they were saying "Heinkel , where can you be
It Flew right past on its way home right o'er the top of Kirton 'drome
And way back Goering he was yelling , Heinkel come back to me

When the controller on the Tannoy told us of this plane
We were delighted
So we sent up all our Spitfires , and a Hurricane
Who said "One enemy is sighted !"

The clouds were low ,the sky was grey , that bloody plane it flew away
But in the sea it fell , left Hitler vainly yelling Heinkel come back to me

I'll hold your hand in mine dear,
I'll press it to my lips
And take a healthy bite from
Your dainty fingertips.

My joy would be complete, dear
If you were only here,
But still I have your hand as
A precious souvenir.

The night you died I cut it off
I really don't know why
For now each time I kiss it
I get bloodstains on my tie

I'm sorry now I killed you
Our love was something fine
And 'till they come to get me
I will hold your hand in mine

THE FOLKSINGERS' BALL

cho: Wha do you lassie?
Wha do you noo?
The one wha do you last time,
He canna do you noo!

1. The Clancy Brothers they were there,
Along with Tommy Makem.
They waved their Finnegans in the air,
But, alas, they could not wake 'em.

2. And Peter with his banjo,
Was pickin' until dawn.
Next morning all the lassies asked,
"Where have all our flowers gone?"

3. Oh, Ed McCurdy he was there,
But not the least obscene.
Compared to all the songs he sings,
This was exquisite clean.

4. Then Jan Ian she came in,
Her behavior was quite mild,
Although she is a grown-up now,
She's still "Society's Child."

5. Professor Child he came in,
But just to take a look,
And every variation,
He wrote down in his book.

6. Then next came Alan Lomax,
With his microphone,
He spent the night recording,
Every squeal and moan.

7. And the Earl of Scruggs he was there,
What do you think of that?
He had a little breakdown,
That left his Lester Flatt.

8. And Old Man Guthrie he was there,
He made the lassies coo,
"Oh, Woody, you are so long,
It's been good to know you, too!"

9. Oh, Huddie Ledbetter he was there,
He made the lassies squeal,
For his belly 'twas said was made of lead,
But his pride was tempered steel.

10. And Ewan MacColl he was there,
Explaining to a lass,
"I sing about the workin',
And not the firkin' class."

11. And McGuinn the Byrdie joined the fun,
He made the lassies yearn.
They stood in queue and one by one,
Each took her "Turn, Turn, Turn."

12. But little Arlo, I pray tell,
He didn't do no firkin',
'Cause he spent the night with A.O.L.,
On the Internet a-lurkin'.

13. And old Josh White he went bare,
A-prancin' through the hall,
Asking all the lassies there,
To taste his "One Meatball."

13. The Carter Family's drinking beer,
They were on a spree,
And every fifteen minutes,
They stopped to take A.P.

14. The singer-songwriters we saw,
Cavorting with their lovers,
Were singin' 'til their throats were raw,
But wouldn't do no covers.

15. Ed Cray had on a costume,
Inspired by the blues,
He dressed up as an old tomcat,
And gave erotic mews.

16. Said Berryman to Berryman,
"What _are_ they doing, dear?"
"Words fail me," answered Berryman,
"I see some mothers here."

17. If you went into the back room,
You might see Oscar Brand,
Working on a ballad,
With whatever came to hand.

18. Oh, Joanie Baez she was there,
Of non-violence she did speak,
So when a laddie bumped her rump,
She turned the other cheek.

19. Don Laycock joined the company,
His face was rather red,
For when they'd introduced him,
There was no more to be said.

20. Tom Lehrer gave a lecture,
That had everybody scared.
He stood on the piano,
And shouted, "Be prepared!"

21. "I've madeira on my waistcoat,"
Poor Flanders said to Swann.
"It worked so well the first time!
Well, let's be getting on."

22. And Robert smiled aboon the crew,
And doun his voice cam ringin',
"For a' that, there are some owre fou,
But wha's owre fou for singin'?"

23. Well, Louie Killen he was there,
His back agin' the wall,
He squeezed and squeezed and squeezed and squeezed,
But it wouldna go in at all.

24. And Ali Anderson he was there,
But he knew what to do.
His 'tina wouldna fit, so,
He's usin' his chanter noo.

25. The Kingston Trio they came in,
The night was very young,
When each one dropped his pants to show,
How Tom Dooley hung.

26. Jean Ritchie she spent the night,
A-ticklin' on her zither,
And all the lads who watched her there,
Couldn't help but shake and shiver.

27. Paul and Mary they came in,
In private he did meet her,
They had a "Puff" of some magic stuff,
And then brought out his Peter.

28. The traditional singer's wife,
Was sighin', "Dear, oh dear!
He never performed a' his life,
Wi'out his finger in his ear."

29. No one was shocked when Cecil Sharp,
Winked at Lester Flatt.
It scarcely seemed unnatural,
They they should have a chat.

30. Richard Dyer-Bennet,
Surprised everybody,
For his stones were like a baritone's,
But his voice a true castrati.

31. Bob Dylan kept his britches on,
So one would never know,
If his hung "Forever Young,"
Or on "Desolation Row."

32. But when he finally took 'em off,
How old Bobby grinned,
For all the gas that he passed,
Was "Blowing in the Wind."

33. Sid and Henry they were there,
A-makin' fast and free,
Though could not do that proper like,
But only parody.

34. Now Gordon Bok he came on down,
From Nor'east on the go.
When they asked him for his pleasure,
He answered, "Isle au Haut!"

35. Stan Rogers he was quick and sure,
And strong with what it takes,
But he wouldna take the lassies at a',
Not even "Between the Breaks."

36. Now k.d. lang she came and looked,
And said, "There's naught to fear,
From all these swinging blades afar,
If I can keep my Holly Near."

37. Lovely Hedy West was there,
Observin' with dismay,
After one quick peek she wished she were,
"Five Hundred Miles" away.

38. Dar Williams she stopped to give,
The older folkies hell,
But when they all exposed themselves,
Said, "My, you're aging well!"

39. Crystal Gale was at the ball,
And her old lover, too.
He sighed and said, "It's been a while,
Since I was 'Blue Bayou.'"

40. The Kingston Trio soon came in,
And everyone was keen,
To know amonst the three of them,
Which one slept in between.

41. And Cecil Sharp was taking notes,
While watching all the fun,
He's never tried himself but he,
Knows all the way's it's done.

42. Stephen, Stephen, he was limply,
Trying harder than most,
To get us all to write a verse,
But couldn't get a post.

We are the Folk Song Army,
Ev'ryone of us cares.
We all hate poverty, war, and injustice,
Unlike the rest of you squares.

There are innocuous folk songs,
But we regard them with scorn.
The folks who sing 'em have no social conscience
Why, they don't even care if Jimmy Crack Corn.

If you feel dissatisfaction,
Strum your frustrations away,
Some people may prefer action,
But give me a folk song any old day.

The tune don't have to be clever,
And it don't matter if you put a coupla extra syllables into a line.
It sounds more ethnic if it ain't good English,
And it don't ever gotta rhyme---excuse me---rhyne.

Remember the war against Franco?
That's the kind where each of us belongs.
Though he may have won all the battles,
We had all the good songs.

So join in the Folk Song Army,
Guitars are the weapons we bring
To the fight against poverty, war, and injustice.
Ready! Aim! Sing!

I really have a yen
To go back once again,
Back to the place where no one wears a frown,
To see once more those super-special just plain folks
In my home town.

No fellow could ignore
The little girl next door,
She sure looked sweet in her first evening gown.
Now there's a charge for what she used to give for free
In my home town.

I remember Dan, the druggist on the corner, he
Was never mean or ornery,
He was swell.
He killed his mother-in-law and ground her up real well,
And sprinkled just a bit
Over each banana split.

The guy that taught us math,
Who never took a bath,
Acquired a certain measure of renown,
And after school he sold the most amazing pictures
In my home town.

That fellow was no fool
Who taught our Sunday School,
And neither was our kindly Parson Brown --
(We're recording tonight, so I'll have to leave this line out.)
In my home town.

I remember Sam, he was the village idiot,
And though it seems a pity, it
Was so.
He loved to burn down houses just to watch the glow,
And nothing could be done,
Because he was the mayor's son.

The guy that took a knife
And monogrammed his wife,
Then dropped her in the pond and watched her drown.
Oh, yes indeed, the people there are just plain folks
In my home town.
