Don't think that I'll make tonight or even on Sunday - have been struggling with a bad throat and chest all week and pulled out of Tuesday evening's session. Currently have no voice at all but may come on Sunday to join in instrumentally, if I feel a bit better in myself.

What with the Martin Simpson concert at Longcroft school the session tonight might be a bit quiet, but its still going ahead.

Last Tuesday Session was OK Roger but you were missed. Tom also off with flu or something like that.

Hope you can make it next Tuesday! I was thinking of bringing along my Symphonie - like a primative Hrdy Gurdy - I know you like the Hurdy Gurdy - but this is worse!!   If you are coming on Tuesday next but not 100% I'll not bring it - you may have a relapse if I do.

Eric

I'm feeling better in myself so will probably make Sunday - as long nobody expects me to talk or sing. If that goes OK, I'll be there on Tuesday. Would like to see your hurdy gurdy lite - didn't know that it was possible to get more primitive than a hurdy gurdy!

I was annoyed to miss last Tuesday because I had rehearsed loads of political songs in the hope of influencing the outcome of the election :-)

Hi Roger - Glad you are on the mend in parts. Will be at the Sun tomoorow I think and will bring primative hurdy gurdy on Tuesday. If Mike comes I'll try to get him to tune it. Its easy to play but takes hours to tune.

Cheers

Eric

Just moved to Beverley from down south and visited several local pubs on Sunday afternoon and ended up in The Sun Inn (near the Minster) and was surprised by the quality of the local music scene.Where else can you hear Bob Dylan songs alongside traditional folk (which I love) and even a rendition of Wichita Lineman (a song I bought when it came out a hundred or so years ago) performed by very talented individuals. I will take the wife next time she likes a bit of a knees up.Thanks to all concerned for making me feel so very welcome.

Thanks for that Paul. We are in the Sun every Sunday except the first Sunday of the month when we relocate to the Monk's Walk - only about 200 yards away.

Many thanks Paul. "The Sun" is the oldest pub in Beverley and has a well deseved reputation for being a great live music venue due in no small part to people like ourselves and yourselves who turn up every week.

Just to remind those that havent been to our Beverley get togethers, they are open sessions and all our welcome whatever your musical preferances.

So if you play an instrument, sing, dance, do a bit of poetry, monologue or just want to come and listen you will be assured of a warm welcome.

Oh, and Shaun keeps a decent drop of beer as well!

The "Monks Walk" session is run on the same lines except that we tend to try and start a little earlier-2.00pm. And Lorraine keeps a decent drop of beer as well.

Both pubs are on the fringe singaround/playaround circuit at the Beverley Folk Festival.

Keep Music Live.

I went to Beverley on Sunday and I never noticed Glen Campbell singing around the pubs there in fact it was dreary and damp and dull and no music did I hear barring that awful chart rubbish blaring out in sevral waterinholes.Spring Bank is a better bet anytime.

Spring Banks Ok but they do they still start their sessions at nearly closing time?

Spring Bank is rough nowadays. I hardly recognise it now it has been taken over, but their are still good sessions in the Editorial and Tap and spile.

Yesterday's Sunday session was small but perfectly formed featuring as it did two fiddlers, two pipers, a very young bongo player (under 10 years old at a guess)and sundry guitarists, mandolin players, whistle players and singers.

The Tuesday workshop has run as a (informally) no smoking session for a while now. From this Tuesday, however, the landlord has designated our room as officially no smoking on Tuesdays - appropriate signs will be in evidence.

It was a good do despite being short on numbers. Bongo lad was only six but he had rhythm! Will bring no smoking signs for Tuesday.

Will it be the usual eclectic mix of "anything goes" or a more traditional evening session?

I presume that the Friday session will run on the folk festival Friday? If so, will it start earlier? I seem to remember that last year we went in about 7.30 to start a session and the place was already full of people, many of them singing.

See you tomorrow Richard.

For anyone that doesn't know the Sun (by the minster), it is the oldest pub in Beverley, has excellent real ale, and has an extension this Friday and Saturday.

A quieter session this Sunday after all the hulabaloo of the folk festival but I enjoyed several performances, some of the traditional along with several Bob Dylan songs and a Van Morrison or two I think? Already looking forward to next weeks session I may even force the wife to come along (some hope!).I wish I'd have learned to play an instrument in my misspent youth. I thought about learning the trumpet after hearing Chet Baker but that was as far as it went.
