It's not so bad, Mick. Well, actually, some of it is, but there really is lots to love near there. Couldn't you talk them into coming along for the ride?

That's my old stomping grounds. I'll make you a list of things not to miss (including some of the nicest beaches in the US). You're minutes from Philadelphia, my favorite city on the planet. To date.

And a visit is MUCH more likely now, as I still have family there.

If you do have to do it this way, I wish you the best!

Dani

Well damn me. The things ya have to go through to get by...

Mick I wish you'd checked out the prospects up here...lots of people organizing WalMarts, just the kind of fun you'd like. Isn't that your old outfit (United Food and Commercial Workers)?

Anyway best of luck in your new location...

Bill

Well my first post was lost in cyber space. Lets try again.... I figure by the time you've read this you will realize that the state actually pulled out a wonderful spring morning in the middle of February to say hello. It's already pushing it's was towards 50 degrees this morning. (Now they're predicting snow later this week, but just for the moment...

Once you get yourself settled we'll have to have you come up and brave the horde.

The Garden State and I don't think they mean Madison Square!**bg**

The separation will be tough, but it should go by fast, esp. if you all keep busy.:-) We did a year of Rog living in NH while we were in CT. He came home most weekends. Now that I have health insurance, again, I think I'd do the same in your situation.

Sins, you should see the GIANT spuds Rog brought home the other day. I told him we'd have to send some out to Mick. Koko would go ape-shit!

Keep us posted, Mickdarlin' and all our best to your family.

Be sure to check out the venue at Appel Farms in Elmer - it will be a bit to the south of you. Tom Rush is appearing there this Friday, and other folk "names" show up from time to time.

PS. There are only two types of people in the world. Those from New Jersey and those who do not know what they are missing.

There is an added advantage to Mick in NJ - locally grown potatoes (or badadas, according to the natives). He can change his thong daily and we will all be grateful.

RangerSteve:

My BBW grew up in Tom's River when it was an idyllic small All American town. So I hope you know I was kidding about Jersey!! Sorry if I stepped on a toe.

Mick,
I am happy that you have a job with health insurance but really sad that your family will be "away". But you will have Tinker at your back door. And any time you get a notion to come North, I have a spare room, a monthly song circle and/or access to the Press Room. Maybe they can come east and we will all party together.

Anyone who badmouths NJ knows nothing about the state. It's great here. South Jersey has lots of state parks and forests and is really very scenic, and you don't have to travel very far from Cherry Hill to get out of the suburbs and into the country. You'll like it here.

Tony Soprano hangs a bit further North. Cherry Hill is closer to Philly and a great folk scene there.   Welcome to the Garden State! If you get to North Jersey, let me know!

The big question is if this puts you a wee bit closer to the greater Toronto area or not.

Did you call ahead to NJ and warn them you were coming Mick?

It only seems fair...

The next time I am on Mudcat, it will be from Cherry Hill, NJ. In order to vest my health insurance benefits within my pension, I have taken a job there. The good news is that I will be very close to Mudcat Central, as well as Washington DC/Baltimore, Philadelphia, not far from NYC, and a manageable distance to Folk Legacy. The bad news is that I will have to live away from my family for about 2 to 3 years with monthly visits home. Fortunately I have a very strong family and we will make our way through this just fine.

So with any luck, I will see the back east Mudcatters at NEFFA, Old Songs, and maybe Mystic. I am looking forward to performing in the area and calling on old friends with a spare bedroom.

All the best,

Mick
