Anyone know if this little known John Denver tune is based on a Japanese folk tale or song? If so what is the story? The song was written by Joe Henry and John Jarvis and on Denver's Album of the same name he sings a duet partially in Japanese on the reprise. E-mail me at Andies6@Aol.com

Click here for the lyrics. Click here for a blurb on songwriter Joe Henry. Here is an article about the album. I've listened to the album several times, but can't say it really thrilled me. All the songs are nice enough, but nothing was particularly memorable. None of the links I found give an answer to your question.
