Hey all... I've just found this great site - I'll be coming here often. I was wondering if any of you might know where I can find tab (or just chords) to any Ramblin' Jack Elliott songs (i.e. songs he's performed)... Thanks. SB

Stephen:

Get yourself a handle, and welcome to the Mudcat!

Rambling Jack mostly sang Woodie Guthrie songs. There are lots of places out there that can get you chord arrangements and most of the chord structures are three-chord and fairly straightforward.

Here's a sample of tabs to Do Re Mi from cowboylyrics.com.

Here are some more Woodie tunes tabs from www.chordle.com.

Learn to use Google and you'll be on your way finding your own.

Regards,

A

Thanks Amos... The WG songs are indeed the easiest to find the chords for in the Ramblin' Jack oeuvre - but it doesn't get me much closer to playing the way Jack plays unfortunately!

SB

PS - I would get myself a handle, but the 'cookie' thing is of no use to me - I use several different computers depending where I am (home, uni, wherever)

RAMBLIN' JACK

It was on a Thursday night
At the "Jug o' Punch", that's right,
A folk club in the days of way back when.
I sat on the second row
Like I always did you know
Ready to sing choruses again
There were songs about the farmer,
The ploughboy and the sea
Songs I loved that didn't really mean a lot to me
'Cause there were no farms in my city
And no sails upon my lee
And no ploughboys in the factories back then

When guest time came at last
And the interval had passed
A voice said, "Would you all please settle down
'Cause it's my job to say
Let's welcome here today
A legendary man of great renown
He's rambled every highway
He's rambled every road
He's planted and he's gathered
He's reaped and he has sowed
He's a wanderer, a traveler
A man of no abode."
And that's when Ramblin' Jack rode into town

And when he took that flat pick out
And hammered on the strings
Suddenly the tunes were tight
All the words had wings
And I was hearing songs that told me
All mankind are kings
The day that Ramblin' Jack rode into town

And when that night was through
I'd found a love so true
A flat pick and six strings were all I'd need
That Kerouac of songs
That told of rights and wrongs
Unknowingly had planted one more seed
Now I've rambled down the road of time
And there's no going back
But I have planted seeds of song
Somewhere along my track
So here's to all the troubadours
And here's to Ramblin' Jack
Safe journeys and safe havens
And God speed

Yes Amos it has got a nice tune. Just thought I'd post my thoughts on Jack. It's sad today that when I perform the song only about 10% at most of my audience have ever heard of Rambling Jack.

Ramblin Jack Elliot and Derroll Adams were one of the best duos ever. albeit short lived.
