I certainly wish Jean Ritchie a Happy Birthday too, (when it arrives) but I am puzzled as to why are we doing this three days early? Is it not customary to wish the recipient Happy Birthday on the actual day?

And thanks for my new Christmas Carol "find" this year.

It's on Jean's Kentucky Christmas Old and New album -- "In the Valley." Hear it here.

Happiest of birthdays, dear Jean. Your music continues to bring joy. I'm always happy when the season is right for the "Kentucky Christmas" CD. Tonight, your "bluebird song" is one of many bird and critter-related songs I'll be performing at a fundraiser for the Audubon Naturalist Society here in DC. Thanks for that one, and for so very many others. And mostly for being your dear self. Lots of love, and many, many more happy birthdays. Kathy

Jean,
My best wishes for a wonderful day. I am greatful every time I am able to say thank you for giving me, from the age of 6, the only thing that has ever been consistent in my life - this music that we all love. Had it not been for you my life would have taken a much different path and probably not for the better. Thank you for my life and my friends and the music. Long may you live. You are truely a National treasure.

Happy Birthday and best wishes for a wonderful day. I look forward to seeing you sometime soon.

love,
karen kobela

Dear Jean, please allow me to add my voice to the chorus of affection and respect winging its way to you on your birthday.Thank you for the music you share so generously, and the inspiration you were to one young red-headed girl many years ago, as I am sure you continue to be to many people today (and certainly to that girl, now grown and gray, but still making music!) Happy Birthday and many more!

Heartfelt thanks to all you loving folks...not knowing this thread was here, I just stumbled onto it today- I'm still surprised and a little bit tear-y. George and I flew home on December 5th from Indiana in our big blizzard, and there's still about 12" of snow all round our house. Beautiful, peaceful, but that journey was fearful; I've been recuperating ever since and today the sun came glowing and lit up our world. Hadn't a chance to visit Mudcat in weeks, and just before going down to supper tonight, I thought, well, I'll just look in... yes, my family took me out to dinner here in our little town- it was a good celebration. Thanks again,- love and blessings to all..
Jean
