Skip James' bio and music has been discussed extensively when the Stephen Calt biography came out in 1994, next opportunity will be the Scorsese/Wenders project about Skip James, Bl. Willie Johnson and JB Lenoir.
Reading the news about this project I looked around if there's a decent Skip James discography online and found out there ain't - so, once again, I had to build one myself: http://www.wirz.de/music/jameskip.htm
Add'l info /corrections are appretiated !

A couple of questions. Is it true that he was Mississippi John Hurt's brother in law? The other one is how many fingers did he have on his right hand? I still can't believe that one guy can get so many notes out of a guitar...

So, can anyone answer?

The only CD I have of his { Blues From The Delta on Vanguard } doesn't show any missing fingers in the photo and doesn't mention anything about it in the liner noted. Also no mention of being John Hurts brother in law. That's certainly doesn't answer your question but it's all I could find.

I'll bet someone over at the "woodshed" message board at www.guitarvideos.com would know for sure. You might try there too.
