Subject: need book of accordion standards
From: GUEST,Jeff

I'm looking for a good book of sheet music for accordion standards such as Beer Barrel Polka, Blue Skirt Waltz, Red Wing Polka, Pennsylvania Polka, etc. I'm probably an intermediate player, so looking for versions with right hand chording rather than just single note melodies. Any help is appreciated.

There are a number of Mel Bay books that are exactly what you are looking for. You might try their web site.

I live in sunny [not!!] Scotland, and my local music shop in Inverness is bulging with accordion music, as they seem to play it here quite a lot. Give me a few days, [I'm off sick now] and I'll do some research for you.....Giok

You could save a lot of postage when ordering by telling us which country you are in Jeff.

Well, this thread wouldn't be complete unless I mentioned that accordion players have only two standards. Most will tell you that they know only two songs......One is Lady of Spain and the other isn't.

Which is why I can't help our friend GUEST,Jeff out at all. I don't know any standards, and I especially don't know any polkas. I know a lot of waltzes, but most of them are not well known among accordion players (except maybe Finnish accordion players).

I can only suggest you trawl through the lists at Amazon. Is there an accordion shop near you?
