Another version, an animated Flash cartoon... sort of the Flintstones meets Start Trek. Its creator calls it Stone Trek.

Follow the links to the stonetrek.com site to see several animated spoof episodes in Flash format (if the site hasn't shut down for the day, it has 24 hour web-traffic limits). Pretty funny and well done. Worth seeing.

The version which I've heard is the same words but sung to the tune of "I am the music man" ie somethik like:

I am the star trek man, I come from outer space
And I can play....
I can play Lt. Uhura,
There's Klingons on the starboard bow,
starboard bow,
starboard bow.
There's Klingons on the starboard bow,
starboard bow Jim.

I am the star trek man, I come from outer space
And I can play....
I can play Mister Spock!

It's life, Jim, but not as we know it,
not as we know it,
not as we know it.
It's life, Jim, but not as we know it,
not as we know it, Jim.
There's Klingons on the starboard bow,
starboard bow,
starboard bow.
There's Klingons on the starboard bow,
starboard bow Jim.

And so on.

I can remember a duo from the Dartford area String Whistle (Bob Mitchell & Dave Rickard) singing this a long while before 1987, they have a website here.

I've just phoned Dave Rickard, and he said they didn't actually write it, but added to it - and that "The Firm" got it from them. He said he'd try and post the full details to this thread.

ARTHUR DALEY ('E's Alright)
(The Firm 1982)

Chorus:
Alright my son, Leave it out
As it 'appens its your shout
Straight up, Pull the other
In a right 2 and 8
What's the damage Chief?
Who's your mate?
The geezer with the bunny in the trilby 'at
Reckons he's legit but he ain't all that
Arthur Daley, little dodgy maybe, but underneath,
'E's alright.

Propping up the bar at the Winchester Club
"A V.A.T. on the slate please Dave"
Terry's still looking for a sub.
Arthur's onto a nice little earner
Terry's getting agg and the chance of an hernia
Minding the disco down some boozer
Giving him a slap but he's onto a loser
Pound to a penny that he don't get paid
On account of the recession in the used car motor trade

Terry's piling up the Zeds
Been up on a job all night
When all of a sudden there's an horrible scream
And somebody's switching on the light
It's Arthur, Y-fronts caught in his zip
Brahms & Liszt an' he needs a place to kip
Terry gets the hump with Arthur 'cos he
Won't go home 'cos of 'Her Indoors'
"She'd kill me Terry, odds on bet
I ain't got the bottle; Ain't you got that kettle on yet?"

Checking out his stock in the lock-up
Arthur's havin' a fit
'Ere where's them magazines with the 'Erbets in the leather
And the bird with a whip
(inaudible comment)Says Terry (Inaudible comment)
"Cheap jibe Terence. Try to understand
Got a punter coming round gonna take em off me hands
Got a part exchange, claret from Japan
A vintage year, and he does 'em in five gallon cans"

Chorus
(Spoken)
So he's got a couple of Nelson Riddles going,
Who ain't ? Don't make you a villain, do it ?
And he sells the odd dodgy motor now and then
Well, it ain't a crime is it ?
Well yeah, it's a crime, yeah, technically
But it's a bit under the arm the way the(inaudible)
Sit on his daily giving him GBH on the ear'ole all the time
I mean, just 'cos he happens to have done a bit of bird for petty when he was a saucepan
He aught to do them for inflammation of character I reckon
You know what Chisholm said ?
He said "I know how Arthur Daley'll die
I said "How's that"
He said "he'll fall off the back of a lorry"
Bit strong, definitely out of order, Know what I mean?
He goes turning his drum over, looking for bent gear
Finding it, yeah, yeah, but it ain't a crime, it well yeah it's a crime....(fades)

Just to relent, an approximation of the chorus, in two languages: (cockney and Standard English)

Alright my son, Leave it out
Hello; Don't get over excited
As it 'appens its your shout
It appears to be your turn to buy the drinks
Straight up, Pull the other
It's True:   No, you're trying to take advantage of me
In a right 2 and 8
In a state
What's the damage Chief?
How much will those drinks cost landlord?
Who's your mate?
What is your friend's name?
The geezer with the bunny in the trilby 'at
The smooth talking man in the fedora
Reckons he's legit but he ain't all that
Who thinks he's legitimate, but clearly isn't
Arthur Daley, little dodgy maybe, but underneath,
That's Arthur Daley, he may not be totally trustworthy, But generally
'E's alright.
He's quite decent!

The one bit of that song that has stayed in my memory for all those years is "We come in peace, shoot to kill". It has a rather timeless quality about it, doesn't it?

Coo, this has brought back memories ! Skippy and Son: I wonder if you know that there are specific actions/frantic dance moves/physical contortions that go with each of the verses to "Star Trekkin'" ?

e.g. "Star trekkin'" chorus: zoom around room at speed, arms(wings) outstretched; "It's worse than that, he's dead, Jim" : lie flat on back on floor and waggle legs in the air...etc. etc.

The faster the tune gets, the better ! I wonder if the Towersey Barn would be ready for this ?

There was a really good song by Andy Lavery a scot who lives in Reading which I unfortunately can only partially remember which went
The USS Enterprise was rollin down the road, It was boldly going places where no man had ever go-ed, There was Spock and Bones and captain Kirk and everyone doing fine, they were travelling across the universe doing warp factor 9, theie phaser banks were fully charged and life was just a game, they were looking for alien life forms that they could kill or maim. If anyone knows the rest pleeze

Arthur Daley: Verse 1

Propping up the bar at the Winchester Club
Leaning against the bar, taking a drink at his local members only club
"A V.A.T. on the slate please Dave"
"Dave, may I have a Vodka & Tonic, and charge it to my account"
Terry's still looking for a sub.
Terry, meanwhile, is hoping for an advance on his next wages payment
Arthur's onto a nice little earner
Arthur has the expectation of a deal which will give him an easy profit
Terry's getting agg and the chance of an hernia
Terry is being put upon (agg= aggro= aggravation= dealing with somebody awkward), and risks straining a muscle
Minding the disco down some boozer
Looking after the sound system at a public house
Giving him a slap but he's onto a loser
He may hit the person giving him 'agg' but it's not going to help
Pound to a penny that he don't get paid
The chances are very high that his wages (from Arthur) will not be forthcoming
On account of the recession in the used car motor trade
Because Arthur's dealings in second hand cars are not, currently, doing too well

(More to follow!)

Arthur Daley
Verse 2

Terry's piling up the Zeds
Terry is fast asleep and snoring
Been up on a job all night
(self explanatory)
When all of a sudden there's an horrible scream
(self explanatory)
And somebody's switching on the light
(self explanatory)
It's Arthur, Y-fronts caught in his zip
Arthur has narrowly avoided a catastrophe while closing his trousers
Brahms & Liszt an' he needs a place to kip
He's intoxicated (Brahms & Liszt = Pissed), and in need of a bed
Terry gets the hump with Arthur 'cos he
Terry is annoyed with Arthur because..
Won't go home 'cos of 'Her Indoors'
He won't go home because he's afraid of his wife
"She'd kill me Terry, odds on bet
"It is highly likely that she'd kill me, Terry."
I ain't got the bottle; Ain't you got that kettle on yet?"
I am insufficiently courageous (Bottle= bottle and glass= arse= courage. c.f. 'to lose ones bottle' i.e to lose control of ones anus); Have you started to make a cup of tea yet?"

Nigel

burning question #86767528502859 . . .

Do we correctly state, "the borg is back,"
       or, "the borg are back?"

As in:

The Borg is back & there's gonna be some trouble,
(heyla, heyla, the Borg is back;)
Ya better lookout Janeway, cause they're comin' after you-oo,
(heyla, heyla, the Borg is back;)

Yeah! The phasers will be firin'!
Yeah! The red shirts will be dyin'!
