Subject: Overdue Action - Canadian From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 29 Jan 03 - 06:00 AM Date: Mon, 13 Jan 2003 10:00:48 -0500 From: Paul Mills Subject: Stan Rogers - Canadian Music Hall of Fame Hi... Please excuse me for this mass mailing, but there's a group of folks at the website below attempting to get Stan Rogers a posthumous entry into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame - an award presented each year at the Junos. I, for one, think this is overdue and I hope that you may agree. If so, could you take a moment and go to the link below and register yourself on the petition? Thanks so much! Subject: RE: Overdue Action - Canadian From: harvey andrews Date: 29 Jan 03 - 08:51 AM I cannot believe he isn't there already. Who has better credentials? |
Subject: RE: Overdue Action - Canadian From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 29 Jan 03 - 09:48 AM Hi George & all: I , as well could not believe that he was not already there. When I checked their site he is listed as # 6. The site is at: http;//www.canehdian.com/top10.html I wonder what gives? I signed the petition in any case. I am sorry but I can't seem to drag the link into this message box so you will have to enter it manually. Slainte, Sandy |
Subject: RE: Overdue Action - Canadian From: Willie-O Date: 29 Jan 03 - 10:57 AM I mentioned this in the Folksinger Stories thread. The same site is running a contest for best Stan anecdote (max 75 words.) It does appear that you have to be a Canadian resident for your vote to count. Which is right and proper. You need to have a postal code not a zip code. You don't have to be in Canada to enter the anecdote contest though. The Junos (Canadian music industry awards) are in my hometown of Ottawa this year. I think and hope the petition is likely to succeed. It's time. As for the Canehdian Hall-Of-Fame, it's obviously just a list put out by that site, not the official one. Their site notes: "This top 25 list of all-time Canadian music artists was compiled using a crazy combination of: your opinions, international impact, record sales, popularity, and our own good sense." Their list is slanted towards pop artists particularly those from the past decade or so. That's www.canehdian.com W-O |
Subject: RE: Overdue Action - Canadian From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 29 Jan 03 - 11:15 AM Yes Willie-O, That seemed like a pretty sad hall of fame list but it was the only one that my search engine brought up. Slainte, sandy |
Subject: RE: Overdue Action - Canadian From: Metchosin Date: 29 Jan 03 - 12:23 PM Sandy and Willie-O, I sent the following email last week to Geist, upon signing their petion, after hearing about it on CBC. It might clarify things. "I'm a bit confused regarding your interview on CBC this morning. When I visited the JUNO Awards site, it said that it was closed for nominees for 2003 and there is no Link to a "Canadian Music Hall of Fame". There are other Canadian Music Halls of Fame websites on the internet, all of which include Stan Rogers. To what "Hall of Fame" were you referring and is there a list of inductees?" I received the following reply: "Thanks for your email. Ironically, the JUNO people changed their web page the very day we launched this campaign. Their old web page (which was a lot better) had a direct link to the Hall of Fame. While there is a Canadian Music Hall of Fame on the Internet, which includes Stan at number 6, we want to put Stan in the Real JUNO Canadian Hall of Fame. I've attached a link so you can see some of the people who are already in there. Thanks again! Chris Gudgeon " Unfortunately the link no longer works. The fact that Stan is not already in the Hall of Fame is unbelievable. How stupid! |

Subject: RE: Overdue Action - Canadian From: Rapparee Date: 29 Jan 03 - 08:13 PM Stan Rogers? Not in? That's pretty damned dumb.... I'll have to tell both of the Canadians I know to vote. |

Subject: RE: Overdue Action - Canadian From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 29 Jan 03 - 09:46 PM No, I just lucked out. The thanks should go to Dan McKinnon (great Haligonian Songwriter as well as singer). I saw him yesterday evening and mentioned this. He forwarded to me Paul's e-mail which you see above. I had been originally going to put the web-site only with a quick message. I tried to post this last night, but I couldn't get through to Mudcat. |
Subject: RE: Overdue Action - Canadian From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 01 Feb 03 - 03:49 PM The Juno's site is a pain! No Flash, no entry!!! Anyway, apparently one fellow in Calgary collected 200 signatures this week! Great news. LEt's keep it up. The Junos Broadcast is in April, I think, so if you get written ones into Geist (see the web-site above for the address), they'll have tons more names. |
Subject: RE: Overdue Action - Canadian From: Hrothgar Date: 01 Feb 03 - 09:28 PM Let's see if they pick up an Australian postcode ... |
Subject: RE: Overdue Action - Canadian From: Jack the Sailor Date: 01 Feb 03 - 10:24 PM Where do I sign the petition telling the Juno people to take their thumbs out of their asses? It's not much of a "Hall of Fame" if it can't be found. Their web site is little more than an ad for tickets. I suspect this "award" is just a way for the organizers of the Junos to get some "big names" on the program. Of course Stan can't attend so he has been ignored. I signed the petition because of Paul Mills. I think Stan's legacy transends the tackiness of the Junos. |
Subject: RE: Overdue Action - Canadian From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 01 Feb 03 - 11:11 PM Somehow Stan just couldn't bring himself to kiss the asses of the big publishing and recording company executives. He promoted his own stuff without their input or control. Stompin' Tom did the same. Now would it be cynical to suspect that this may have had a bearing on the selection process? Slainte, Sandy |
Subject: RE: Overdue Action - Canadian From: VoxFox Date: 02 Feb 03 - 11:09 AM Signed and delivered! Stan is the Man! :o) VF |
Subject: RE: Overdue Action - Canadian From: CET Date: 02 Feb 03 - 03:32 PM My vote is sent. Still, I can't help sympathizing with Jack the Sailor. I would only watch the Juno's at gun point. Even then I might be willing to risk a flesh wound. CET |
Subject: RE: Overdue Action - Canadian From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 02 Feb 03 - 04:15 PM I havne't watched them for many years either. One awards show I don't need. |
