Subject: Mudcat Liner Notes From: Tweed Date: 28 Dec 02 - 09:26 PM There was a request put out from Mz. Barbara Shaw regarding some liner notes needing to be placed over on the CD Sampler OrderInfo Page and I'm happy to announce that Amos' fine words as well as Mr. Dick Greenhouse' concise history of the Digital Tradition are now available for perusal *Right Here*. A Good idea Couzin Barb (the Shaw people is perdy danged smart you know), Great and well drawn words Dick and Amos, and thanks MichaelR for getting them over to Tweedtowers Industries so they could get printed on the cyber flyers. Keep sending out the info to those radio stations. We have more stuff to show 'em now and our five minutes of fame is waitin. I suppose if this tactic doesn't work, we can always hit the Mall parkin' lots and stick them to windshields ...or windscreens...whichever side of the pond you may be on. Yerz, Tweed |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Liner Notes From: khandu Date: 28 Dec 02 - 10:31 PM Bro. Jessup's Liner Notes are as much a wonderful creation as the music contained on the disc! Wodda Guy!!! Amos, you do us proud and honor us with your words! I Thank ye, me mum thanks ye and me faddah thanks ye! Ken PS... Thanks Tweed, for posting it at the glorious Tweedsburg!!! (Noreen, the link works!) k |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Liner Notes From: Genie Date: 28 Dec 02 - 10:32 PM Great synopsis, Amos. I'm wondering if we can put together separate liner notes here in the forum for each CD, complete with whatever short blurbs folks want to use for their songs and lyrics, if they choose to submit them. That way people could print their own detailed liner notes for each CD if they choose to. Genie |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Liner Notes From: wysiwyg Date: 28 Dec 02 - 11:25 PM Genie, we aLREADY HAVE THEM, IN THE THREADS NAMED FOR EACH COLOR, oops, damn capslock! ~Susan |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Liner Notes From: Amos Date: 29 Dec 02 - 12:07 AM Yeah, I think someone should take the time to condense each of those threads into a set of liner notes for hte disk. Susan's idea really worked well, but there was some persiflage added in as usual. A |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Liner Notes From: Genie Date: 29 Dec 02 - 12:13 AM Yeah, Amos and Susan, I know there are some liner notes in those threads. But, as you alluded to, Amos, they're kind of scattered. Also, I'm not sure they're complete. It would be nice to have them in a form such that folks could just copy and paste, so we wouldn't all have to 'invent the wheel', so to speak, by way of organizing them, removing extraneous comments, and otherwise editing them. Genie |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Liner Notes From: khandu Date: 29 Dec 02 - 11:47 AM I agree, Genie. It seems the intended liner note threads became a free-for-all. Could we not have a thread for each CD with nothing but lyrics / comments for each song on the CD? k |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Liner Notes From: Alice Date: 29 Dec 02 - 11:51 AM I missed adding my full name to the notes. If there is any way to have Alice Flynn next to the title of my songs, that would be great. www.aliceflynn.com in addition to my name would be even better. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Liner Notes From: Noreen Date: 29 Dec 02 - 12:44 PM Hi, khandu, it does! persiflage, amos? Surely not... I now plan to insert that word liberally in my vocabulary, and am off to order two of the famed CDs. Can't wait!! N |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Liner Notes From: Amos Date: 29 Dec 02 - 12:55 PM Yes, Noreen, persiflage, banter, badinage, banter, chaff, raillery, and furthermore wit, retort, repartee, and quid pro quo. I tell ya, there oughta be a law!! A |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Liner Notes From: Genie Date: 29 Dec 02 - 01:33 PM How about the adjectival form: "persiflaginous?" There oughta be a rhyme for that somewhere. Genie |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Liner Notes From: Áine Date: 29 Dec 02 - 01:39 PM Hey Genie, I've got a great idea! Why don't you volunteer for the job of putting the liner notes together. Then you can find out for yourself that 'no good deed goes unpunished' -- and have fun dealing with all the whiney titty babies that will be nipping at your ankles, whinging about how you could have done a better job of this or that, but then out of the other corner of their mouths saying that they're not really complaining . . . All the best, Áine |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Liner Notes From: Nigel Parsons Date: 30 Dec 02 - 04:43 AM Genie; I know not how you'll use 'persifalginous' In a poem or even a song. But to rhyme it you need 'oleaginous' (oily to thee & me) And the verses will need to be long! Nigel |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Liner Notes From: Genie Date: 30 Dec 02 - 06:23 AM Well, I'll be glad to put together the liner notes for the Strawberry CD first, and then maybe if no one else takes on the others, I'll do that. What I have in mind is something that probably won't take more than an hour or so, once I have everyone's submissions for the Strawberry CD. (Additions and corrections can be made to the existing thread.) But one person putting in an hour or so in the formatting makes more sense than hundred of people each doing that same hour's labor. Of course, I wanted to get really fancy, I could make it take longer, but all I want to do is have people's blurbs and lyrics in proper sequential order, error-free if possible, and without the "Subject: Mudcat CD/Strawberry" and "Post - Top - Forum Home - Printer Friendly - Translate," date, etc. between each entry. Just let me know if it's my assignment, so we won't have duplication of effort. Genie |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Liner Notes From: katlaughing Date: 30 Dec 02 - 07:41 AM One thing I learned when editing some of my Thoughts for the Day for non-Mudcat readers is to write more informatively for those people who may not even use the Internet and/or haven't a clue as to what Mudcat is; using non-Internet terminology for clearer understanding. I think the CD notes are fine, but for non-Mudcatters, they could be more informative. That said, the whole thing was an obvious Herculean effort and is quite impressive. fwiw, kat |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Liner Notes From: Áine Date: 30 Dec 02 - 09:01 AM Good on ya, Genie! And if any of those nasty ankle-nippers show up, give me a call and I'll nip 'em right back for ya! ;-) All the best, Áine |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Liner Notes From: Barbara Shaw Date: 30 Dec 02 - 12:31 PM Tweed's site looks great with the order information and text from the CD insert. That's exactly what I had in mind to explain the project to people who may be interested, such as radio stations and music publications. Just give them that link. Thanks, Tweed! The liner notes about the individual tracks, however, would require input from each performer and could probably include background and lyrics for each track. There was quite a bit already posted on the individual threads about each cd, but maybe that should be a permathread or a link off a mudcat sampler permathread. And since this is all about supporting mudcat, maybe it should be on the "record shop" page that sells cds. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Liner Notes From: Genie Date: 30 Dec 02 - 04:56 PM A suggestion, to make the job of doing liner notes for the other four CDs easier: If each contributor could submit the following info in this sequence, it would make the editor's job a lot easier:* Song Title Composer(s)' full name and copyright date (use "©" if possible) Artists: lyrics (or link to lyrics in DT, forum, or website) Genie |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Liner Notes From: Genie Date: 31 Dec 02 - 12:02 AM It looks like I may have unwittingly "volunteered" to do the liner notes for all five CDs. I'm open to that if y'all will each post your liner notes as described in the post immediately above in the respective threads for the CDs. To that end, I'm going to start separate threads for each CD, with those instructions. If everyone submits the information organized like that, the task of doing the liner notes will be cut in half (by spreading the load). Genie |
