I'm happy for them both. But, it's a frightening idea that either of them are in thier sixties.

Amergin, you have a very strange sense of humor. Ya shoulda been at Freight and Salvage in Berkeley the other night. Now if only one of you guys can convince Gordon to visit the West Coast more often...

Jerry- don't mind me. That was just a reaction to how old it makes me feel. I'm still freaking out at the idea of being a grandfather.

I didn't think Tom was that old either! I first saw him live in Glasgow, at the Woodside Halls, in April 1965, I was 19! Tom was a bit thin on top even then but I would never have figured him for 28. I think it was his first British tour, certainly his first gig in Scotland. I think Matt McGinn brought him over. Matt certainly intoduced him and compered the show that night. The audience amounted to seven people! myself, three friends, a drunk waiter(!) and a couple of others! Tom performed as if the hall were full, I've been a fan ever since.

Happy birthday to both my favourite US songwriters, and I hope they'll ignore their ages for a long time yet and go on writing and performing instead.

Happy birthday, Tom Paxton. I sat beside a roaring fire between you and Phil Ochs, 'n all of us singing along with the New Lost City Ramblers, just a couple of years ago. It was great good fun. I hope you're having even a better party today.

Elmer

>I sat beside a roaring fire between you and Phil Ochs

That was the same weekend when fire was first discovered,
right?

(Next day, they invented the wheel, left the folk-fest
and moved into Greenwich Village, and the rest was
history.)

Very Very Beat Wishes Tom,
For all our U.S. cousins - (you may not know) Tom was probably the most
influential singer/songwriter here in Britain in the 60's/70's.
At the very small risk of of exaggeration, I suspect that an evening at any folk club in the British Isles in those times could not have been spent without someone performing one of his songs. They're still widely sung. Brilliant !! and I still sing a few of 'em - and I always make sure people know who wrote the song before or after I've sung it.
If he had a penny for every time one of his songs had been sang in a folk club - goodness knows to how much it would amount .Bless ya Tom !!!!!

Cheers

Betsy.

A belated Happy Birthday to the man who has written more singable songs than anyone else I can think of (Tom Paxton) and to one whose songs, on the basis of those I have heard, I wish I knew better (Gordon Bok).

63, 69 or 65, stick around until you're at least as old as Derek Brimstone. (Even if nobody is as old as he!)

Alan
