I heard a guy named Harold Hausenfluck sing this with his lady Chlovena many years ago in Galax. Anybody know a few more verses?

It's a shame to whup your wife on Sunday (2X) When you've got Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday It's a shame to whup your wife on Sunday

Well, it's a shame to whip your wife on Sunday.
Yes, it's a shame to whip your wife on Sunday.
When you've got Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
      Thursday, Friday, Saturday
It's a shame to whip your wife on Sunday.

It's a shame to get drunk on Sunday.
Yes, it's a shame to get drunk on Sunday.
When you've got Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
      Thursday, Friday, Saturday
It's a shame to get drunk on Sunday.

Damn...Two minutes.......

Note too, this website which shows just how old the song is....and probably more. Fiddlin' John did it back then in 1926 so I have a feeling we can probably go back ever further.

Always struck me as a "Zipper" song....Just insert whatever it is that's "a shame to do."

In the early sixties I learned "Ain't it a shame to go fishin' on a Sunday" from a Leadbelly record. Library of Congress recording I think. Other verses were "take a drink", "beat your wife", can't recall others. If I sing it now, when I come to the wife verse, I do the 2nd line with "husband", and the 3rd line with "spouse." I've got troubles enough without hunting up new people to offend when I'm having fun playing. Obviously, new homemade verses for this song are endless.

Fiddlin' John Carson's version has another verse in the middle and repeats the first:

It's a shame to play cards on Sunday
It's a shame to play cards on Sunday
When you've got Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday,
It's a shame to play cards on Sunday.

The Fiddlin' John Carson Version is in the NEW LOST CITY RAMBLERS SONGBOOK which has been re-issued UNDER A DIFFERENT NAME.
