Subject: RE: Kendall, in the stretch... From: CapriUni Date: 18 May 02 - 12:41 PM I just realized, this morning, that the metaphors in this thread have gone back to Kendall being A Little Horse... Do bad puns have any anaesthic effect? at least, we haven't gotten into Bed Pans! |
Subject: RE: Kendall, in the stretch... From: kendall Date: 18 May 02 - 05:59 AM I will indeed. My neck is red, but, many folks don't even notice |
Subject: RE: Kendall, in the stretch... From: Mark Cohen Date: 18 May 02 - 05:00 AM Kendall, I lived in Beantown for a month about 10 years ago. Even the damn McDonald's in Freeport had to look "quaint"! But I really enjoyed Maine. Almost as much as Hawaii. Seriously, you might want to look into finding a hypnotherapist to help you with the sore throat. I've taken a course and am starting to use hypnosis in my practice--it can be very effective. I'd be happy to work with you, too, even by phone...if that diaper rash doesn't clear up. Just let me know. Aloha, Mark |
Subject: RE: Kendall, in the stretch... From: kendall Date: 18 May 02 - 03:12 AM It's 3:15 am. I can't sleep, but, at least I have a longer day to enjoy the pain. Maybe I'll go to L.L.Bean and look around. Their prices might take my mind off the pain. |
Subject: RE: Kendall, in the stretch... From: Mudlark Date: 18 May 02 - 01:39 AM Dear Kendall...4 weeks of sore throat, with all the stress and worry on top of that....aghhhh... I'm prone to strep throat infections and even 4 DAYS has me climbing the walls, thinking I can't stand this one minute longer. No fair that one HAS to swallow, over and over, with a sore throat. Do icy treats help? Hang in there.... |
Subject: RE: Kendall, in the stretch... From: Escamillo Date: 17 May 02 - 10:42 PM We are all pulling for you Kendall, from the other side of the World to equillibrate those in the North. Subject: RE: Kendall, in the stretch... From: SINSULL Date: 17 May 02 - 09:04 PM Auction update: The bidding stands at $20 with 24 days to go. For those who were asking "Stories Told In The Kitchen" is up for auction on Ebay. |
Subject: RE: Kendall, in the stretch... From: SINSULL Date: 17 May 02 - 08:38 PM Priests (at least the ones I grew up with) were all male and took vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. How nice to know even you recognize that I would make a poor priest. The kind folks here rarely tolerate moaning and self pity. But they can be counted on to offer support and humor when and where they are needed. Right now, Captain, you qualify. Hell! You're so miserable that I had to pay someone to put together my new futon - just didn't have the heart to ask you. Of course, I did enjoy those two young muscular types with heavy toolbelts. One even asked to borrow my ratchet! No battery powered screw drivers for him! |
Subject: RE: Kendall, in the stretch... From: Jeri Date: 17 May 02 - 08:38 PM Just close your eyes Kendall. Imagine the smell of tall pines after a rain. Imagine feeling the warmth of the people who surround you and care about you. Imagine the sound of their laughter and joyful singing. Imagine what 'someday soon' will be like once you get through 'now'. Now open your eyes...Kendall? Open your eyes! Kendall? You aren't even reading this are you?! |
Subject: RE: Kendall, in the stretch... From: kendall Date: 17 May 02 - 07:50 PM I'll have you know I'm NOT a man my age! Actually, I'm just tired. Other than that, and the sore throat,I feel fine. Those phasers tend to sap your energy you know. |

Subject: RE: Kendall, in the stretch... From: Big Mick Date: 17 May 02 - 06:51 PM OK...........you old fart.......first you get cozy with Max at the Getaway...........now you whine about this old load of shite.........what the hell gives???????? Next you will tell us that you were really the fair cabin boy instead of the skipper!!! Seriously, being sick sucks. I don't do it well, and I don't imagine you do either. But you need to hang in, my friend, and know that every single one of us is interested in, and cares about your recovery. Good friends don't come along often, and besides, I need you at your sharpest to help me fend off the anti-handgun hoardes.............LOL. Know that you are in my prayers, my friend. I am pulling for you all the way. And we have spooky songs to sing at the Getaway. Mick |
Subject: RE: Kendall, in the stretch... From: Ferrara Date: 17 May 02 - 06:30 PM Kendall, I love what Troll said -- that getting old is not for sissies! 'Struth. In the meantime, I know from the early days after my transplant -- there are times when you don't want to hear how lucky you are to be alive. You want somebody to sympathize with how rotten you feel! Well I do. Yes it's a medical miracle, I'm thrilled that the outlook is so good, but still --- It's some damned hard times to be gotten through. So. Right now you're caught in the medical meat grinder, a most uncomfortable place to be ... you have my sympathy ... and I'll play my zither just for you again, when you make it to the Getaway. How's that for something to look forward to? You should hear me plunk out Beer Barrel Polka on that thing!;-) All the best, Rita |

Subject: RE: Kendall, in the stretch... From: catspaw49 Date: 17 May 02 - 05:54 PM Yeah, well, I bet it is a stretch....but it's your own damn fault. I tried to tell you to go to an ENT Specialist but being the cheap old bastard that you are and a friggin' know-it-all to boot, did you listen to me? Hell no...... You went out and found a Proctologist who gave you a better rate, and of course administering treatment to your throat by going up your ass is a definite stretch of several body parts and just adds to the pain of the whole thing as well. Good Lord I hate to think how much you'd be wimpering around if you'd gone to that Urologist you were considering. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Kendall, in the stretch... From: Áine Date: 17 May 02 - 05:26 PM Hey there, my favorite Yankee!! Darlin', you're in the stretch and you're way ahead of the pack (and always have been, in my book). Besides, you've thousands of Mudcatters at the rail, waving their tickets, totally confident of you winning against any odds. So, let me just give you a wee slap on the hinder to remind you to keep on going as best as you can, and just think about the rewards in the Winner's Circle!! Ya know, there's a reason why women love horses so much -- it's a lot of trouble to catch 'em, break 'em in, saddle 'em, keep 'em clean and healthy -- But, boy howdy, is the ride worth it!!!! ;-) Keepin' ya in my heart as always, Áine |

Subject: RE: Kendall, in the stretch... From: MMario Date: 17 May 02 - 04:36 PM Kendall - if you're not going to do your own moaning - what kind of a friend would she be if she didn't moan for you? Never fear - you *know* this crowd - if we get tired of something we will tell you. Probably repeatedly. Probably Repeatedly. Meanwhile - I personally feel you have probably done far too little complaining. |
Subject: RE: Kendall, in the stretch... From: kendall Date: 17 May 02 - 04:32 PM Sinsull, you would make a poor priest! I can't help but think these folks get tired of all the moaning. It's been so long, 4 solid weeks of sore throat and a funny voice. They said it would get to me, and it is. I'm so thankful for the moral support from you all. |
Subject: RE: Kendall, in the stretch... From: Dave the Gnome Date: 17 May 02 - 04:09 PM Go, Kendall, Go, Kendall, Go, Kendall, Go!!! Just think it could be worse. Subject: RE: Kendall, in the stretch... From: SharonA Date: 17 May 02 - 04:09 PM I used to have a boyfriend who was a Vietnam veteran – Special Forces – who'd driven his body hard and had lots of bones broken and muscles pulled and guts sliced and blood lost and teeth ground until they broke. He used to tell me that every day, when he woke up feeling like shit because everything hurt and nothing moved, then he was happy because he knew his body was telling him he was still alive. He'd made it through another night. So, kendall, hang in there and remember that as long as you're feeling like shit, you're still feeling something. Like the old guy says in the York peppermint patty commercial, "I get the sensation that... well, I'm just glad I get a sensation." You can do it, kendall, just keep on driving on. |

Subject: RE: Kendall, in the stretch... From: Troll Date: 17 May 02 - 01:20 PM Kendall, it could always be worse. It could be Monday. Memsahib went through it with her radiation theatments so I can sympathize albeit from a distance. As we both know, gettin' old is not for sissies and it seems that the older we get the more crap gets thrown at us. This too shall pass and the pain will end. I'll send you an e-mail from Japan. I leave in the morning. I'll say a prayer for you at a Shinto shrine. troll |
Subject: RE: Kendall, in the stretch... From: GUEST,Midchuck downstairs Date: 17 May 02 - 01:09 PM Do the Docs let you have whiskey? I suppose they won't. That's the only thing that works for me for any kind of sore throat - and that only for a short time. I have to keep repeating the dosage. I just found out, both my kids are coming to Old Songs this year. You met Ian. Andrea is a Dr. in Montana. She may be the best looking Doctor I know, but I'm prejudiced. She can't practice in NY State, but you can complain at her. If you see her slipping a rubber thingy on her finger, stop complaining, quick. If you tell her your problems are at the north end, she may ignore you. Peter. |
Subject: RE: Kendall, in the stretch... From: Stilly River Sage Date: 17 May 02 - 01:00 PM Kendall, it seems like only yesterday that you were complaining of the sore throat and not having any good answers as to why it had lasted for so long. Mudcatters have helped by providing referrals and connections and you've done the hard part by following through. It seems so quick, you're almost through with an aggressive and effective treatment that will give you back everything you wanted--health and a voice. That's pretty darned amazing. Stick with it, you're almost through. (And look for some of that Celestial Seasonings Throat Soother Tea. It really does help). The spirit of this place and your willingness to both share your health concerns and accept the help offered by list members makes all of this a magical thing to watch. I hope that by looking back at the process you initiated you're inspired to finish, despite the pain you're experiencing right now. As one cancer survivor to another, I can tell you that the pain will pass; you will realize one day soon that after the cure it went from Big C to little c cancer, and you'll be glad you did it. Many other things will change also, for the better, but you've probably already figured that out. And said "thank-you" and "I love you" to people who you really needed to have hear it. Now is the time to begin examining this experience for the good things it has revealed. And there will be lots of them. Maggie |

Subject: RE: Kendall, in the stretch... From: katlaughing Date: 17 May 02 - 12:28 PM Short road trips of any help to get his mind off of it? Chloraseptic to kill the sore throat pain. Reminders of his own words about the power of this place and our good thoughts? Movies? Anything to distract, if he's feeling well enough. How about a ride out on the seas? Gardening, taking the dog for long walks...playing bingo somewhere if you can holler out for him when he wins! Just some ideas...now, Kendalldarlin'...nine is less than ten which is less than however many you started out with and it's working. Hurray! Pretty soon it will be 8, then 7...well, you get the picture. *See* yourself further along in the summer, done with the treatments, *feel* a pain-free "swallow" or two and keep that visualisation in your mind and heart. Some surgeons even tell their patients to go in with a vision of what they want to be doing after surgery. I know you know this already, but it will help if you can make yourself do it. In the meantime, I'll do the same for you and send you lots of {{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}... luvyakat |

Subject: Kendall, in the stretch... From: SINSULL Date: 17 May 02 - 12:14 PM Captain Morse is in the final countdown - nine more radiation treatments to go. And he feels like shit! I don't believe I have ever used a fully spelled obscenity on Mudcat before so you know I am serious. He has a vicious sore throat and he is sick of it. He is worn down and tired and he is sick of it. His voice is almost back - not good enough...and he's sick of it. Some words of encouragement to get him through the final hurdle? The best I can offer is OLD SONGS. |
