Subject: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Micca Date: 31 Jan 02 - 04:40 AM Vital Questions, After the very sucessful Mudcat meet at the Jug in Chapel Haddelsey, Yorkshire, UK in May last year(2001) 1 Is there a Yorkshire Gathering at the Jug again this year? 2 If yes, When,? Dates please, 3 If Yes How do I put my name down/book etc to attend? 4 Who is the contact/organiser,? |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: alanww Date: 31 Jan 02 - 05:06 AM As I recall, someone (who you know too Micca!) told me that The Jug was threatened by a change of management or something and that it may not happen this year. But that's just rumour as far as I'm concerned. I don't know the details. Let's have the facts from someone who does know (eg Geoff the Duck and Mrs.Duck etc?). If its on let's know the dates asap, so we can schedule it in our diaries! Don't mind the wind nor the rolling sea ... |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: bill\sables Date: 31 Jan 02 - 09:38 AM I do believe Mrs Duck is organising another one this year but I don't know the dates. Last year it was two weeks after the German gathering so it might be the same this year. Bill |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: John J Date: 31 Jan 02 - 01:00 PM I'm up for it! I was hoping to stop off at the Jug today, but I was delayed and couldn't make it. Next time! John |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Cobble Date: 31 Jan 02 - 03:00 PM The Jug changed hands a few months ago so I think it's up to the new owner now. Cobble. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Mrs.Duck Date: 31 Jan 02 - 05:24 PM There is certainly going to be a gathering this year and its already in a lot of diaries for the 24th May. The new owner of the Jug is looking forward to it. The weekly sessions at the Jug have continued and are still well attended. The field at the back has been reseeded and flattened so camping will be even better and as well as the two bar areas there is now a lounge room with sofas which I think Tig has bagsied for at least one session of story telling! I haven't yet queried with Paul about the possibility of a marquee but in the event that it is not available the extra space in the field could allow us to pool some awnings and create our own space. The food and beer are still excellent if a little dearer than under the previous landlord so it should be a great weekend. I don't think there will be a ceilidh this year as most people seemed happier staying at the pub but I hope that there will be a good balance between song and music sessions especially if we have the weather we had last time. Look forward to seeing as many as possible there. Let me know if you are coming and what amount of space you'll take up (camping that is). There are one or two B&B places and I will search the archives and post tel. nos. etc. Jane |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Tig Date: 31 Jan 02 - 05:31 PM For those of you who haven't realised this is the week BEFORE the Bank Holiday which has been moved as Mrs Queen has been on the throne for ever such a long time. Yes I have bagsied the Snug for a story session. You'll see why when you get there. Paul is a smashing landlord and Jason is still there!!!! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Les from Hull Date: 31 Jan 02 - 06:47 PM I'm sure that Mags and I will be there. We would love a lift but we might be able to manage by public transport. It's a bit of a pain with instruments, though. It's a shame about the ceilidh, but I don't think that, as a group, we're committed dancers. Last year, I think we had more in the band than there were on the floor! But I did enjoy the playing. So, provisionally, that's two of us and a medium-sized tent. Les |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: harpmaker Date: 31 Jan 02 - 07:02 PM Les & Mag.If we go, we will give you a lift. John&chris |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 31 Jan 02 - 08:09 PM Les-if I go, I'll give you a lift as well. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: IvanB Date: 31 Jan 02 - 08:46 PM Will this be a weekend gathering again? Wife and I have rescheduled our ill-fated September 2001 trip to May. I believe we fly into London on the 17th for a week, then move to Thoresby, Notts. for the following week. I know we're scheduled for the Chelsea Flower Show on the 23rd and I'm pretty sure we travel on the 24th, so I doubt we'd make it to the Jug that evening, but Sat and/or Sun would be definite possibilities. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Geoff the Duck Date: 01 Feb 02 - 06:07 AM It is definitely a weekend. Friday teatime until some time on Sunday. Last year one or two stragglers didn't actually leave until the Monday morning. GtD. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 01 Feb 02 - 07:03 AM You couldn't manage to move this to July? I really must come check out the Jug! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 01 Feb 02 - 10:28 AM Provisionaly me and the Gnome cave, unless it has been hijacked by son #2 who now has a tow-bar on his car! Might have one or two people in there with me but I'm not telling...;-) Cheers Dave the Gnome |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: brid widder Date: 01 Feb 02 - 12:31 PM rather than fight over Les how about one of you settling for giving me a lift instead....maybe I could carry a few of his instruments... |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: nutty Date: 01 Feb 02 - 12:34 PM You can put me on the list .....I really enjoyed last year. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Ringer Date: 01 Feb 02 - 01:04 PM I've heard that the dancing's not so good at the Chelsea Flower Show as well, Ivan. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Kipling Date: 01 Feb 02 - 01:23 PM Sounds great, i've never been to one of these crazy mudcat meets. But there's no stopping me now.I will be bringing myself and a tent. Kipling

Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: IvanB Date: 01 Feb 02 - 01:34 PM Bald Eagle, I hear ya, but the tickets are already purchased. Besides, you'd have to sell tickets for the comedy act if you expected to get me on a dance floor (or any other dance surface for that matter). But I'm sure the music will also be better, so I'll eagerly plan on attending. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Geoff the Duck Date: 01 Feb 02 - 06:43 PM We could always try the Custard Workshop this time! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: mooman Date: 02 Feb 02 - 05:54 PM I think I'll be able to make it across the channel again this year, most probably with Lady McMoo as well this time. Best regards, mooman |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Geoff the Duck Date: 02 Feb 02 - 07:17 PM Inthat case - Mcmoo/Mooman The Custard MUST fly! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Mrs.Duck Date: 06 Feb 02 - 12:59 PM And hopefully this year we'll have no more lame ducks!!! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Ditchdweller Date: 06 Feb 02 - 03:27 PM Couple of questions:- When are the weekly sessions at the Jug? Are younger performers welcome? I have a 10yo guitarist and a nearly 13yo fiddler I like to get round sessions with. As it's ˝ term in a couple of weeks, I might manage to make a visit!! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Gillie Date: 06 Feb 02 - 05:09 PM Custard sounds fun, is this a tee-shirt competition? |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Mrs.Duck Date: 07 Feb 02 - 01:03 PM Sapper, Selby regularly takes his boys in especially during holidays and they are a similar age. The sessions are on Wednesday from about 8pm. No, Gillie, no T shirts involved unless you want to organize a separate event. A see how much custard fits down the boxers could also be amusing! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: JeZeBeL Date: 07 Feb 02 - 02:49 PM I think it was tuesday by the time we all went home, well the ducks and I and tig and badger...but I cant remember...Can I reserve my spot for the huge tent of mine again. Who needs a marquee...mines a six man tent, although there could be three of us this year. my house mate cat has just joined..catsPHiddle, and were trying to get chris to join aswell. personally i think he just wants to snuggle up with two gorgeous women!! Jason has left the Jug....hurrah!! young catters are welcome, look at the flock of ducks that attend!! the jug is still going strong. the foods top notch, especially the paté and toast, and the whitby scampi....can't beat it. and the beers still grand!! If you really must, there's john smiths and fosters and all that rubbish, but there's still all the real ale aswell.....and the cider for grail and gail!! Are we kidnapping grail again? One thing though, Gillie, I'm not carrying the magician back to the caravan again with no help...he's a foot taller than me almost!! someone else can...or he can stay in the marquee. Dave, r u bringing spot with you again? Micca, ur not camping next to me again, u snore!! We'll be travelling from across the river, or maybe in the river if the rain keeps up and we get flooded. we live in gowdall now. Our little darling Chris will drive us to the jug for the weekend. Will the "arabian folk dancing" be going again this year? I propose Les must join in rather than just watching this time!! Jez xxx |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Desdemona Date: 07 Feb 02 - 03:35 PM I'm in England every August; Yorkshire early in the month....can it wait?! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Les from Hull Date: 07 Feb 02 - 04:16 PM I'll nominate Maggie for the belly dancing, if that's OK, Jez. One of the main reasons for playing instruments is that you don't have to dance. |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Catherine Jayne Date: 07 Feb 02 - 11:37 PM Jez says the nomination has been accepted.........Les MUST BELLY DANCE! AS I will be sharing that huge tent of Jez's which incidently is big enough to fit 20 people in as we speak from personal experience!!! we should have saved up for the sound proof walls by may so micca's snoring won't be a problem for us!!!!...........if anyone begs nicely we may let them in!!!!! See you all soon catsPHiddle |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 07 Feb 02 - 11:42 PM You are up early/late (it is nearly 5AM here), I suppose I had better learn an instrument if I go, (I don't like dancing)! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Mrs.Duck Date: 08 Feb 02 - 01:47 PM Take a camera and say you're the press John!! We should have the marquee again which will be particularly useful early evening when they are still serving food in the pub so we can have a good session in there without skewreing someones spud with a bow or something. Unfortunately if Jason has now gone we may not be able to do the barbeque this year but as there is excellent food available in the pub I'm sure that won't be a problem. I've ordered the good weather so we'll have no more talk of floods Jez!!!!! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Les from Hull Date: 08 Feb 02 - 01:53 PM I'll have the Cow Pie, then. I'm desparate! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Catherine Jayne Date: 08 Feb 02 - 03:00 PM is that cow pie or cow pat????!!!!! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Catherine Jayne Date: 08 Feb 02 - 03:12 PM I will try and convice Jez that its not going to flood .............however we are getting quite nervous as it did flood quite spectacularly the other year, and with flood alert and the issue of sand bags our hopes are not being raised for a pond in the garden or front room unlike the ever rising tide!!!! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: JeZeBeL Date: 08 Feb 02 - 07:18 PM Yep, flood warning is in place for the whole of the vale of york!! Luckily our house was not flooded last time the floods were on, hurrah, but you never know. I missed all the action ie fit army men that my dad was working with!! I was in newcastle speaking french and spanish...I couldn't get home. I wasn't saying the jug was going to flood, just Gowdall and maybe hensall, just to make mouldy happy!! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: JeZeBeL Date: 08 Feb 02 - 08:40 PM AAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!! Just found out that I probably won't be able to go as I am wanting to go to the Run To The Sun in Newquay. It's a big VW festival, and I've promised Chris I'll go with him to help out with petrol costs etc, plus the idea of a weekend of VW's and Beer is greatly appealing to me, although a weekend of friends, music, singing, storytelling....and BEER, is also VERY appealing. ARGH, what do I do.....I'm really in a BIIIIIIG hole on this one, Chris may fart me to death if I don't go (see housemate and flatulance thread!!) Help, anyone.....catsPHiddle will kill me 2.... averyworriedJeZeBeL!!!!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Aaardvark Date: 09 Feb 02 - 07:42 AM Count me in Tyke I'm at Aaardvarks at the moment! Just chilling out! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: Catherine Jayne Date: 09 Feb 02 - 07:45 AM I WILL NOT KILL JEZ!!!! Im still going to the jug gathering whether she is there or not!!!! |
Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: JeZeBeL Date: 09 Feb 02 - 09:27 AM It's ok, we've made the decision that the jug would be a much better plan. Don't have to spend 90 quid in petrol, or 60 quid on a ticket, so we'll spend it all on beer instead...what was that....you'll carry us three back to our tent....cheers!! AveryrelievedJez

Subject: RE: Yorkshire Gathering 2002? From: mouldy Date: 11 Feb 02 - 02:46 AM Remember,Jez, that Hensall didn't get flooded last time, apart from a 2 foot deep patch downhill from me at the crossroads when the beck back-flowed with all the water from the flood plains. Mind you, now that those who "know what they are doing" have channelled it into a culvert and filled up its channel... Les, since Val has left there's no cow pie any more! By the way folks, I had a letter from Syd and Val last week, and their new enterprise is to be called "Chews and Booze". Andrea
