Subject: Kipper Family From: GUEST,Annraoi Date: 06 Oct 01 - 09:14 PM Has anyone any information on this "family" of English "folk" singers who seem to specialise in risqué remakings of popular English ballads? Annraoi |

Subject: RE: Help: Kipper Family From: Crane Driver Date: 06 Oct 01 - 09:50 PM The Kipper family - "Henry", the old man, and "Sid", supposedly his son, were a brilliant comedy act, allegedly a Norfolk version of the traditional Copper family. Sid Kipper is still around as a solo act, capable of reducing a room full of folkies to gasping wrecks, but sadly the guy who played Old Henry passed away last year. Sic transit gloria mundi (the old girl's thrown up in the van again)

Subject: RE: Help: Kipper Family From: Liz the Squeak Date: 07 Oct 01 - 03:24 AM They had to kill him off because Sid was sick of people asking when he was coming back!! I've slept in the same bed as Sid Kipper! (Mind you, so's Martin Carthy......) There are several albums, a folk opera and a song book or two available as well..... LTS |

Subject: RE: Help: Kipper Family From: GUEST,RolyH Date: 07 Oct 01 - 02:33 PM Notes from Buttons and Bows compilation album re a Kipper Family recording: 'A muddley of tunes from the Truch dance tradition. It is unusual to find the Kipper Family in unstrumental mood, and it is not certain when this rare recording was made.Henry Kipper suggests just before closing time'. |
Subject: RE: Help: Kipper Family From: Garry Gillard Date: 08 Oct 01 - 01:54 AM Complete discography - I hope. Garry BTW: Who owns the copyright to the song lyrics? I'd like to put them on my site, but don't want to invoke piscine wrath. |
Subject: RE: Help: Kipper Family From: Liz the Squeak Date: 08 Oct 01 - 02:00 AM Talk to Sid or the record company about copyright. Address should be on the back of any album. LTS |
Subject: RE: Help: Kipper Family From: Garry Gillard Date: 08 Oct 01 - 02:45 AM I knew it seemed to be a silly question, Liz, but I don't know Sid and don't own any of the albums. I hoped someone would |
Subject: RE: Help: Kipper Family From: MC Fat Date: 08 Oct 01 - 04:37 AM Sid killed Old Henry off, appartantly when he first went solo he said he had gone to an Old Folies Home. Dick Nudds (who was Henry's alter ego) is though now living as a woman (name unknown)in a strange twist of fate. Oh what a tangled life we lead. |
Subject: RE: Help: Kipper Family From: Snuffy Date: 08 Oct 01 - 08:50 AM I think the Kipper copyrights are mostly Dambuster Music, and this may be connected to Dave Bulmer.

Subject: RE: Help: Kipper Family From: GUEST Date: 20 Aug 02 - 06:26 AM Its good to see the Kipper tradition spreading and being kept alive----How do you keep a kipper alive? I still think that the act was at its best when Henry was around. Nicko the Ferret |
Subject: RE: Help: Kipper Family From: Dave Bryant Date: 20 Aug 02 - 07:03 AM It's strange to think that Henry is now Henrietta and that Dick Nuds is now probably Dick-less and Nudd-less ! |
Subject: RE: Help: Kipper Family From: Schantieman Date: 20 Aug 02 - 10:10 AM Ouch! |
Subject: RE: Help: Kipper Family From: Mr Happy Date: 16 Dec 09 - 07:46 AM In the bio link above, there's mention that the late Henry Kipper played the Tremelodeon. Anyone have more info on this instrument? |
Subject: RE: Help: Kipper Family From: Little Robyn Date: 16 Dec 09 - 01:39 PM It looked like a normal melodeon but it must have had something like a wee fan added inside that gave it the tremolo as the air passed through. It gave it a real vibrato effect. Robyn |
Subject: RE: Help: Kipper Family From: Little Robyn Date: 16 Dec 09 - 01:42 PM Anyway, I understood that Henry gave up because he couldn't handle the booze. He would walk on the stage and the audience would go boooo - he couldn't handle that and I couldn't either. Robyn |
Subject: RE: Help: Kipper Family From: GUEST,Jim Knowledge Date: 17 Dec 09 - 11:14 AM I `ad that Sid Kipper in my cab once. `e `adn`t `ad time to take `is make up off and he still looked like a very convincing pensioner but a bit out of puff from running.
