For those near Louisville, we are very fortunate to have some very special guests for Ky. Music Weekend (26th year - at Iroquois Park in Louisville). Tom Paxton (probably performing Saturday night, July 28th)& Bill Stains (Bill was here last year and I'm guessing he will also be on the stage Sat. night). In fact, they are going to actually have a song writing class (together) some time during one of the festival days. There will be one other special guest, but I'm drawing a blank right now.

This great festival usually begins on Thursday and ends on Sunday (July 26 thru 29th). Hope those of you who are near can come!

Jim

Thanks, JamesJim, I've sent this on to my son. He and his SO went to the Jazz Fest in Indianapolis last weekend, but they are appreciative of all kinds of music, so I hope they make this one, too.

Les Gustafson-Zook announced this event on the cyberplucker list- and I believe he's performing/teaching. Would he be the other guest artist you're trying to recall, Jim? T

Robin - Do you know my friend John Gage? I'm working with him to produce "Homefront," a public radio show. I'll certainly be sure to watch for you Saturday night! I've seen Ten Penny Bit a number of times - Great Band!

Jim

ps. The other "well-known" is John McCutcheon. He'll be in the song-writing workshop with Bill & Tom. WOW!

Jim,

We've worked with John Gage a number of times! Great guy, and a great performer. Ten Penny Bit did a benefit for him at the KY Theater for Earth day.

That songwriting workshop is going to be killer! I heard it is at 3:30, and my band has to do a mini concert at 3:40 on another stage

ARRRGH!

Robin

I'm curious as to how the festival went off. Anybody have memories to share?

Pinetop Slim,
I didn't have a chance to catch Tom Paxton on Friday night :( but everyone said he was excellent. Did anyone else see him?

Saturday was very well attended, with Saturday night concert drawing about 1000 people. That's pretty good considering the old amphitheater was in shambles, and the concert was held on a makeshift stage in the parking lot! Sound guys did an unbelievable job. I can't say enough kind words for the workers, volunteers, and Nancy Barker for a job well done.
Jean Ritchie's performance was excellent, as always. I even had a chance to pick up her "field Trip" CD while I was there. Thanks to whoever started the thread on it!
Bill Staines did a wonderful program, I love his western style humor and style!
John McCutcheon was outstanding. The high point of the entire evening was the end, where all performers came on stage for a rousing rendition of "The Great Storm is Over", just as the rains began to fall!
A succesful festival all around I would say, with too much good music to tell here! If you have a chance to get to Louisville the last weekend of July, don't miss it.

Robin
