Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Sam Chatmon blues song From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 07 Jul 01 - 02:52 PM I have found the song listed on Sparky and Rhonda Rucker's CD "Treasures and Tears." Anyone have the CD who might translate the words? Of course, Sparky is not above changing lyrics around, but it will help. Roger in Baltimore |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Sam Chatmon blues song From: Brian Hoskin Date: 11 Jul 01 - 10:09 AM Roger, Was this a solo outing for Sam Chatmon, or something he did with the Sheiks? Brian |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Sam Chatmon blues song From: GUEST,Roger in Baltimore (at the library) Date: 12 Jul 01 - 05:18 PM Brian, I don't know. I didn't hear it from his recording, so I have no way of knowing. The singer from who I heard it credited Sam (and I think he was correct). Roger in Baltimore |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Sam Chatmon blues song From: Stewie Date: 12 Jul 01 - 07:13 PM Roger and Brian, I have the complete works of the Sheiks and it is not among them. It is also not among the dozen sides recorded by the Chatmon Brothers (Sam and Lonnie) in 1936. It must be among Sam's recordings post 1943. I have only a couple of those on compilations and, unfortunately, that ain't one of them. --Stewie. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Sam Chatmon blues song From: Brian Hoskin Date: 13 Jul 01 - 06:31 AM Cheers Stewie, Sorry Roger, but I'm afraid I've exhausted all possibilities as well. And frankly if Stewie can't find it . . . Brian |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Sam Chatmon blues song From: Brian Hoskin Date: 13 Jul 01 - 07:50 AM I've just spent far too long searching all over the place and at last I've discovered that the track is on a Blue Goose records release (probably long since deleted), the information is here Blue Goose Records Brian |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Sam Chatmon blues song From: GUEST,Roger in Baltimore Date: 14 Jul 01 - 09:39 AM Thanks Brian and thanks Stewie. If you guys don't know, it diminishes my hopes of getting the words here. I will refresh for another week in hopes someone will come up with them. Thanks, again. Roger in Baltimore |
Subject: ADD: Last Chance Shaking In the Bed with Me From: Stewie Date: 15 Aug 01 - 03:10 AM Roger, it took a while, but I finally tracked down the recording and made a transcription for you. I'm not sure of the word in square brackets - it could be a weird pronunciation of 'cover', sounds a bit like 'kilver'.
LAST CHANCE SHAKING IN THE BED WITH ME Stewie.

Subject: Lyr Add: LAST TIME SHAKING IN THE BED WITH ME From: Jim Dixon Date: 27 Aug 15 - 12:21 AM Here's my transcription from Spotify. It looks like Sam must have recorded this more than once, because there are some significant differences compared to Stewie's transcription above. LAST TIME SHAKING IN THE BED WITH ME As sung by Sam Chatmon on "Blues at Home 2" (2013) SPOKEN INTRO: You know, I had an old gal—I'd come in home, the dishes wasn't washed, flo' wasn't clean, bed wasn't made up, so I got tired o' that mess. I told her: looka here, baby; it's the last time you shakin' in the bed. I mean, you got to find you somewhere to go. … I said: yeah, I ain't jokin now. This is your last time. I'm gonna sing it for you. Said, I told you to your face: I had another woman to shake me in your place. Woman, it's your last time shakin' in the bed with me. Says I told you, you could go, And don't come back to Sam no mo'. Woman, it's your last time shakin' in the bed with me. Oh, you shake it, you can break it, hang it up on the wall, Throw it out the window, run 'round, grab it just 'fore it falls. Shake it, you can break it, tie it up on the line. I don't want your love 'cause it sure ain't none o' mine. I told you in the fall, When I didn't even have no woman at all. I mean, it's your last time shakin' in the bed with me. Well, you kick down the kivver [cover], 'cross the bed on the flo'. You better be glad; Sam ... you won't get to kick it no mo'. Wear your miniskirts 'way above your knees, Now you shake your jelly with any other man you please. I told you to your face, I had another woman to shake me in your place. Baby, it's your last time shakin' in the bed with me. Oh, you shake it; you can break it; hang it up on the wall; Throw it out the window, and run 'round, be quick enough to grab it just 'fore it falls. Oh, shake it; you can break it; hang it up on the fence. I don't want it, baby, 'cause it ain't got the right kind o' scent [or "sense"?]. I told you, you could go, And don't come back to Sam no mo'. Woman, it's your last time shakin' in the bed with me. |
