Subject: hymns by Oscar Brand From: Hollowfox Date: 01 Mar 01 - 04:08 PM The thread on Ash Wednesday and Lent got me thinking. Oscar Brand, for all his bawdy reputation, also used to do gigs at church camps back in the '60's or thereabouts. A friend of mine saw him at camp as a kid and was quite surprised to find out about his less than theological side when he (my friend) discovered the folk scene. Did he ever make a recording of non bawdy/religious songs? I've never seen one mentioned anywhere. I remember hearing one at Fox Hollow:
Jesus did say,"My time it is come.
And as they sat, Jesus took wine, (chorus)
"Take, eat, this is my body. Beautiful stuff, I'd love to hear more.

Don't know of anything recorded. Does anyone recall a cowboy-type song he sang a half-century or so ago, to the melody of Jesus, Joy of Man's Desiring, that wound up: "...And I'll meet you tonight at the old Bach chorale.."? |
