In my opinion the best SRV song of all time has got to be "Commit A Crime" from "Live Alive." The best line in the song: "You mix my drinks; with a can of Red Devil Lye! To me anyway as far as a full tilt blues jam this is it. All one need to do is listen to the Haunting Guitar Riff. I gusess I don't know enough about Napster to have found the song online but perhaps I'll try again or maybe one of you Mudcatters could offer me a link to the song somewhere please? LOL TNT Peace mrmoejoerisen

Sorry mr, because of my ignorance in the genre, I never ranked SRV amoungst the best of anyone, but I'm ready to listen to anything you guys have to say. My baby's a BIG fan and she says that "Pride And Joy" is her fav.

"Life By The Drop", especially when Branwen sings it.

I always liked his instrumental treatment of Jimi's Little Wing.

Calach was partly right about my fave SRV song---Pride and Joy has my favorite guitar solo from a song of ANY genre...and it's a bitchin' lil love song too...kind of happy blues eh?

I can't really narrow it down to one favorite tho, I love Crossfire (good message!), Lovestruck(another happy song!)and Little Wing,(my favorite Hendrix tune, only Stevie could do this justice). 'Look at Little Sister' and 'House is Rockin' are both fun too...and the list goes on and on and on

Oh, and as the only female to comment thus far, I have to be silly and mention that Stevie Ray was the ugliest SEXY guy I ever saw--even just the way his hands moved..oh my!( shh, don't tell Cal...)

Thyme,
Shameless Stevie Ray Vaughn fan for life!

Oh,no, Thyme, I also thought he was way sexy== and not a bit cute. I like "Pride and Joy," of course, but I guess "House is a' Rockin'" is my favorite -- for strictly personal reasons and probably not having anything to do with the actual musical worthiness of either. Having to do with me, a tall drink o' water and his very big motorcycle one sunny summer day on a winding highway through the mountains ... and SRV playing loud, loud, loud the whole way. whoo=hoo!

Oh hey, Mr Mojo?? I found 'Commit a Crime' on Naptser... you just have to try another time, different people are logged on each time, and you never know when you'll find what you're looking for. You might try looking under 'I'm Leavin you, Commit a Crime'...that's how I found it-oh and make sure you use artist AND title in your search request. I was looking for a rare Thin Lizzy track called 'The Black Rose' (Don't be alarmed folkies, it has an interesting double lead guitar break which combines several traditional folk tunes for an amazing effect) and had to check back in several times one week before I found it...don't give up!

For what it's worth (hey wait a minute...that was Buffalo Springfield) here are my choices:

"Little Wing" simply because it's also one my favourite Hendrix tunes and the fact that SRV managed to put his own stamp on it while staying true to original.

"Pride and Joy" is another.

Like Jimi Hendrix, SRV's strength was not so much the quality of the song itself but where he went with it (live). The song/tune is just the starting point. Is it not?

To prove a point, his version of 'Mary Had A Little Lamb' was pretty good too.

Tell me the tales of long ago
When the Kings and Queens would dance
In the Realm of the Black Rose
Tell me the story if you know
That I may tell my children so

Tell me the story of Brave Cuchulain
How his eyes were dark
His expression sullen
And of the Queen who ruled these lands
And how fools obey commands

Huzzah LEJ--isnt that a cool song? I had never heard of it til Ian (Calach) told me about it last year, and then I searched every record store in my area including Kansas City) and could only get it if I ordered an import CD from Germany...it's instances like this that make Napster so great! I still try to be fair tho and not abuse the Napster thing-I've ordered the CD now that I've heard this track, and so has another friend of mine...that's how the system should work!!
