Thank you Joe, I was about to post something similar. All those duplicates and such are just a software management situation. They may have been deleted or whatever, but we have had 300,000 posts somehow and that's good enough for me.

So Max, ta' hell with your technobabble!!! This also assures that the "Thread-A-Thon" is over which ain't all bad from your standpoint either!!! So let's ship those tiples and get help for the poor souls at the NYCFTTS.

Darn. I shoulda known BillD would beat me to the punch. He and I think alike - but he thinks faster. I can see it now - Max having a special edition of Mudcat Radio to celebrate the beginning of the Millennium - on January 1, 2001.

Spaw posted message number 300,000 today, and that's good enough for me. Message #100,000 was posted by thosp just over a year ago, 27 July, 1999. Bert posted Message # 200,000 on 23 March, 2000, but he had nothing to say. By the way, there is no Message #1.

Hey Max!

If you'd rather have quality than quantity, Mudcat ain't for you (even if you are the big boss around here).

Mudcatters have regularly proven that quantity is much more important to them than quality. (Just watch, there'll be about 25 posts complaining that I've insulted your station in life as the Top Cat.)

To answer two of the important questions at Mudcat, I had Corn Flakes for breakfast and brushed my teeth with Crest.

Sorry Folks, as of right now there are only 297062 messages. The numbering is never correct due to deletions and difficulties when we started and such. And the last thing we need is superfluous posts to try to get to 300,000. I'd rather have quality than quantity.

the only real way to keep track of posts is with the "Messages since last visit" thing...clicking in different threads gives you a false idea of where we are....it took me 30 minutes or so to LOCATE #100,000, since small threads were posted to even as the BIG thread was gaining..(clear as mud?)

Hmmm. What counter tells you it's 300,052, Kat? If you look at the menu at the top of this thread and click on the one for your message, you'll see it's 300,059. Cagy Catspaw posted #300,000 in the tiple thread. I suspect he manipulated things so he'd hit the mark, but a think a little devious manipulation is appropriate in a situation like this. I'm quite impressed that he figured out how to do it.
But you have me curious. Where did you see the 300,052 number?

AND NOW>>>>>>*********###########.............

CONGRATULATIONS FOLKS!!!! WE HAVE DONE IT!!!!!!!!
(....balloons drop, fireworks go up,tiples play raucously....)

We've made it!!!! 300,000 posts and 12 hours to spare!!!

What a testament to the true meaning of Mudcat Addiction and the Neil Young Center for the Terminally Screwed. Appropriately, and as it should be on this complete piece of BS thread, the number was achieved with the refresh of the INFAMOUS TIPLE THREAD!!!!!! Your posts will go to work now to become a part of the record and support the NYCFTTS!

Thanks so much. Now I have to go wash dishes.

Well I'll make my contribution, humorous.

An elderly Jewish man is on his deathbed. Suddenly the smell of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies permeates his senses, and he must have one.

With all the strength he can muster, he meanders his way out of bed, and in excrutiating pain crawls the 25 feet to the kitchen which takes him about 15 minutes, and manages to pull himself upright up hanging onto the fridge handle to do so. Sitting on top of the counter is a large serving dish with the cookies in question.

As he reaches for one, out of nowhere a hand slaps his. He turns and it's his wife. She says:

Don't touch! They're for the *shiva.

*=Jewish equivalent of a wake.

With just over a hundred posts to go I know we can do it folks. Look at these poor souls up in the front row, Mudcat addicts all and in need of the services of our fantastic Neil Young Center for the Terminally Screwed. Every one has a sad and tragic tale of their life on Mudcat and every one can benefit through your generosity. In their blathering and troubled states, the Center is their salvation for eradication of their salivation. Just listen to poor Wolfgang, a true music scholar who has been reduced to a BS philosopher:

Yes, its true. I love music, but now I must sat that A equals B and B equals C and C diminished is not A although the structure of B7 can logically be brought to bear on the the outcome of E.

I ask you kind souls.....Is that not tragic? And our dear Bert, a long time sufferer of CRS syndrome, but now far gone into its depths as you can plainly see:

...........splaoghw.......walllaaawytyfn........mrzltplk..........fopsentjehdiuty.........grrxizrtyspoli....................

Completely pathetic. How can you listen to these pitiful testimonials and not be moved? Donate your favorite postings right away so we can get those tiples!!! Don't forget the Noseflutes for the sad sufferers of Chronic Blandness which we treat in the James Taylor Rehab Clinic.

Don't let another moment pass. Post now and get that same warm fuzzy feeling you get from pissing your pants. You'll be better for it and so will Mudcat and the Center.

And Jon, if it didn't come through on my last post I was trying to be funny. And probably a little envious of schedules that allow such an extravagant use of late night/early morning. I have one of those 9 to 5 type jobs (well, 7:30 to 4:00, if you crave accuracy) and I need my sleep. I'm looking forward to retirement so I can go back to the hours of my youth. How very, very true Catspaw. But it's not just the bullshit...much of which,by the way,can be recycled into original thoughts on our Forum with relative ease...but also the random questions that are asked in the threads. These are not difficult questions, but the kind of questions an unmarried registered nurse might ask a single bank teller at a cocktail lounge : Where Do You Live? Your Favorite Movie? What Astrological Sign are You? What are the Origins of Carrickfergus? Well, maybe not the Carrickfergus one,but gently probing queries designed not to get the respondent to the sack or the marriage altar, but to let each other know "Yes! We traditional music fans are pretty damn normal humans after all! We're not the sandal-wearing,hemp-jeaned,hummus-breathed,patchouli-soaked fringe cult we're made out to be."

But,you know,we've got plenty of volunteers waiting for your posts, and right now there's very little activity in there. Remember...this is YOUR Forum.Only you,by your repeat postings, can make sure the great work continues.

Thanks Leej. As always you bring those stats to us and I'm proud to know that our numbers increase across the board. I want to take amoment to thank our corporate sponsors here. Without there continued support, Mudcat Addiction would not be possible and the Center would fold in on itself. We look forward to those substantial posts from them and can never thank them enough.

And I want to thank our Patron Sponsors to who do their part by collecting the leftover bullshit from the General Stores, Music Stores, and Political campaigns across the land and around the world. I urge all of you to support the Thread-A-Thon throughout the year by depositing your leftover bullshit in the jars these fine folks have in their places of business. I'm proud to say that we here at the Mudcat NYCFTTS Thread-A-Thon turnover 95% of the bullshit directly to the 'Cat assuring the strong addictions which make the Center possible. Thanks to all of you.

Now let's keep those posts coming. I want to hear those keyboards clicking.

You know,Catspaw,I can't tell ya what an honor it is to be a part of the Mudcat NYCTS Threadathon. But it's more than just laughter, balloons, tiples, and noseflutes. It's thousands of lonely, isolated Folkies, listening to obscure 78s of the Carter Family in grubby loft-apartments throughout New England. It's scores of computer enthusiasts with $900 Martin guitars that they can only play Leavin' on a Jet Plane on.It's college kids who lock the door, use a Bic lighter for a slide, and wail "Ah'm goin' down to de Crossroad" while their roomate bangs on the door shouting "Let me in Goddammit!I've got to take a shower before my Date!"It's people in countries where English is not even the second language, taking hours with a Croatian/English Translation Dictionary just to post to the "THREAD FOR PEOPLE WHO DIDN"T POST TO THE OTHER NINE 'DON'T POST TO THIS THREAD' THREADS".It's rich guys with lap tops driving around in the back of their limos while...ah,Hell,who am I kidding? Those guys don't post here. But they should,Catspaw...they should.

Of course you did Bill....And I want to thank you for your third post on this thread. Being the first to post three times gets a tiple inlaid and engraved with the picture of a Mudcat donated to the Center in your name, and for your possible future use, which could be at anytime now...........

Spaw
