Hey, Kendall, why is this thread titled BS? Isn't it about Mudcat and music? (poking you in the ribs) Just for fun, I typed in www.mudcat.org at the BullshitAnalyzer.com site. Does anyone know how they define "meaningless content"?

I'm not sure how they define it, but it is interesting that it goes (well) over 100%. The main forum site ranked at 17p (whatever a "p" is,) and this thread came in at the same. The mudcat Political party thread ranked at 16 p and the "spancil hill" thread 18.

OldSongs site came in at 28 "p" or 280% bullshit according to their ranking system.

I hope (if nothing goes wrong) to be at oldsongs friday night the 23rd, and on Saturday the 24rth.

I'll be there. I think I'll hang my "Animaterra" tshirt over the windshield of my big green Ford van.
Now here's my dilemma: do I or do I not bring my 11 year old daughter? She's dying to go- she loves the music, but she loves the merchandise as much! She doesn't like following me around to workshops and would want to be free to roam around on her own. Last year she brought a friend and it was fine; this year the friend can't come. Advice?

Surely she can find/meet a new friend there? And you could meet the SPO (significant parental unit), and all would be happy? Except of course, the hazards of letting an 11 yr old shop unsupervised........

Go ahead, bring your daughter. My 11 1/2 year old daughter will be there, from Thursday night on. She's a sociable sort, so things should work out if they don't think they're getting shoved together by parents. As for the craft area, let her admire it all she wants. Take note of what she really likes for future/birthday/Christmas reference, and make no promises. See ya there.

All you tent campers, you'll want to be sure to bring a groundcloth this year. They've been having a lot of rain lately in that neighborhood. The good news is that it will probably be easier than usual to get the tent pegs in. The bad news is that it might be like pitching a tent on a lake of chocolate pudding. See you (glub) there!

I'll see you all there. I'll be camping as close as it's reasonable to get to the gate to the fest grounds. How close that is will depend on the weather-past and over the weekend! Real close and you're down really LOW, where it's wetter. I usually am around the pole barn somewhere. I have a tent tall enough to stand up in, and a midnight blue Mitsubishi Galant.

Does anyone want to go to the Stan Rogers Folk Fest in Canso, Nova Scotia, the following weekend? If so, email me at Marymac90@aol.com

Last year at the Saturday night Creature Comforts sing, I promised a gentleman several pages of the Moose Son. I went home, gathered them up, and lost hte card wiht his name and address on it. I you're out there, I'm bringing the stuff along. As for you others, I'll probably have some extra copies, if you ask nicely.

By all means bring kids. I have brought my granddaughters each year. (9 & 10 years old)They have a great time. Actually they tend to vanish the minute we get there and then show up at moments throughout the festival to beg for money and food for themselves and the pack they run with.

Animaterra, we brought our sons to festivals from the age of 4. They got to run around on their own around age 8 or 9 during daylight hours, and usually brought a friend in the early years. Try to get the name and campsite of at least one of the kids they might be with, and have your child check in at specific intervals, like once an hour, and less often as they get older.

I do remember Frank and I fanning out to find the missing kid a few times, and usually found him sitting on the ground with 3 or 4 other kids, jamming. And then there were the times he had to find the missing parents, and found us somewhere jamming. . .

Music festivals are wonderful for kids, and let them start early to feel the joy and fun of music.

Hello Mudcatters, Looks like lots of you go to the old songs festival. i'm thrilled I get to go because my company is bringing me to the East Coast for meetings and the time coincides. Can anyone tell me - looks like you need your own chair for concerts. Do they have chairs to borrow or rent? Thanks! Linda in Portland, OR

Linda, as far as I can recall they don't have chairs for sale or rent. Many people get by with a blanket on the ground.

I hope this isn't one of those things where parents turn their kids loose to commit all sorts of anti social behavior. Remember folks, peer pressure is much stronger than the influence of a parent who is no where around.

In all the years I've been going to Old Songs, I've only seen two bad children (but I've seen them for several years in a row, now.

The major problems are drummers, and old farts who think if you sing it far enough off key, it's bluegrass....

Just had a nice weekend at the Clearwater Festival w/ Sandy & Caroline Paton representing Folk Legacy & dick greenhaus & Susan of DT for CAMSCO, but not many Mudcatters in attendance. The weather sure didn't cooperate, though--hot & humid on Saturday & steady rain on Sunday. Yuck!

Hope to see many of you next Sunday. We graduate David on saturday & then will come up to join you. MM, sure wish you could stay, so we can meet in person!

best,

lindamat from Portland--

During the daytime concerts, you will probably find chairs or benches at many of the stages, (excepting area 3, and the dance barn) and might not need your own, particularly if you're willing to sit on the ground. But for the evening, you will definitely want your own chair or blanket. If you want to travel light, purchase a cheap chair at the supermarkets or drugstores near there.

Things are NOT over at midnight. The singing in the Dutch Barn with Sandy and Caroline Paton BEGINS at midnight Friday, and runs for at least a couple of hours, maybe longer. At that hour, you should have an easy ride from the Airport to Altamont. See you there?

Dear Linda, The official Mudcat hug is an official secret. It seems that unless this hug has a registered copyright, it is not permitted in public. With that said we will resort to plan B and the following will occur :

A. A short quick focus of the eyes B. A broad smile and " Hello " in various slurs and/or international jargon. C. The extension of arms, reaching around the other person and finally ending with " It's great to meet you in person ".

Please be aware this will all take place in moments and be a lot shorter than the time it has taken you to read and /or comprehend this endless run-on sentence.

Mike
