since we are on the subject, I must say as a lyrical ballad singer I quickly grew tired of being asked to sing "Danny Boy" whenever asking for requests...
Not only is it way overdone (s shame since it is a lovely air) but it is a bitch to sing! And everyone of course expects Frank Patterson-perfection!
BTW for those with HBO, interested in watching a harrowing true-crime documentary which will cause you to NEVER again hear "Danny Boy" in the same way again, watch "Revelations: Paradise Lost 2" when it airs this month...

After the one occasion I agreed to play an Irish bar on Paddy's day, cuz I needed the dough, I swore I would never sing that blankety blank tune again as long as I lived.
