Brendan Graham wrote this song

s briste mo chroí, is uaigneach mo shlí
Is mo stóirín in a luí is mé cráite;
‘S é deireadh mo shaol, is mo chailín beag rua
Sínte i gCrucán na bPáiste

Ni fheicfidh sí arís an drúcht ar an bhféar
Nó an sneachta i ngleannta Mhaamtrasna
Gan ghrian ar a h-aghaidh, gan ceol binn na n-éan
Ach an chré fuar i gCrucán na bPáiste

In ainm an Athair is in ainm an Mhic
Is a Mháithrín atá lán de ghrásta;
In ainm an Spioraid Naomh ná fág me beo
Is mo mháinlín i gCrucán bPáiste

Is buartha na sléibhte, is tá mairg ar an Mask
Is olc mise gan i bheith sábháilte;
Is an fhad a bhéas mé beo ní sheasfaidh mé ar fhód
Na hÉireann nó i gCrucán na bPáiste.

In ainm an Athair is in ainm an Mhic
Is a Mháithrín atá lán de ghrásta;
In ainm an Spioraid Naomh ná fág me beo
Is mo mháinlín i gCrucán bPáiste

a translation from a facebook link

roken my heart
Lonely my life
With my darling child lying here and me tormented
It is the end of my world
My little red-haired girl
Laid out in Crucán na bPáiste
She will not see again
The dew on the grass
Nor the snow in the glens of Maamtrasna
No sun on her face
No sweet song of the birds
Only the cold earth of Crucán na bPáiste
Chorus:
In the name of the Father
And in the name of the Son
And Mother Mary full of grace
In the name of the Holy Spirit
Don't leave me alive
With my little angel in Crucán na bPáiste
There is sadness on the mountains
Anger on the Mask
But much worse am I that didn’t save her
And for the time I am alive
Never more will I stand
In Ireland or in Crucán na bPáiste

it is a gorgeous song..it is about the famine in ireland. i think the story is the mother has a chance to go to australia but has to leave her red head child in a grave.

The standard spelling of the place would be Cnocán na bPáiste. It is very common to pronounce cnoc (a hill) as croc rather than knock. According to logainm.ie there is an infants' burial ground called Cnocán na bPáiste in County Galway, and another in County Mayo. Mám Trasna (alliterated in English as Maam) is in County Mayo (Mayo is just north of Galway).

There is a video on youtube of Brendan Graham talking about the song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7LrYOS-Qk0 and another of Karen Matheson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RomFfK33v3U

sung by Eimear Quinn https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzNrapKgRtg, with commentary.

The reason for a separate infants' graveyard is that stillborn or otherwise unbaptised babies were not, in the old days, buried in consecrated ground. This was an extra sadbess for the bereaved parents.

I can't find the word "máinlín", so I wonder if "m'ainglín" (my little angel, "ainglín" being a diminutive of "aingeal", angel) would be better understood than "mo mháinlín"(the latter could mean, literally, "my little hand"; there is a phrase "mán a dhéanamh le leanbh", to fondle a child).

Ar N-Aimm

My heart is broken
My path is lonely
My little treasure is lying down and I am sorely distressed
It's the end of my world
Because my little redhaired girl is
Laid in the children's burial ground
She won't see again
The dew on the grass
Nor the snow in the glens of Maamtrasna
Without sun on her face
Without the sweet music of the birds
But the cold clay in the children's burial ground
In the name of the Father
And in the name of the Son
And Oh, Mary who is full of grace,
In the name of the Holy Spirit
Don't leave me alive
when my little angel's in the children's burial ground
There is sadness in the mountains
And there is sorrow around Loch Mask
I am wretched because she is not safe
And as long as I live
I shall not stand on the sod
Of Ireland nor in the children's burial ground
In the name of the Father
And in the name of the Son
And Oh, Mary who is full of grace,
In the name of the Holy Spirit
Don't leave me alive
When my little angel's in the children's burial ground
When my little angel is in the children's burial ground
