On 19th November I was sad to read about the passing of Tony Hooper, founding member along with Dave Cousins and Arthur Phillips of the bluegrass band The Strawberry Hill Boys, which went on to become the folk rock and later progressive rock band Strawbs.

I remember them when they started out, there used to be some real fast banjo picking going on.
RIP Tony

How sad, I can remember the Strawbs back in 1966 when they were guests at our summer bbq in The Queens Head In Harlow.they were brilliant then.

I only have one Strawbs album Bursting at the Seams which I bought on vinyl back in the early '70's and then updated to CD a few years ago. An English friend of mine had it and played it a lot so in the end I had to buy a copy for myself.

It was after Tony Hooper left the band, so I don't know his music but I can thank him for helping to create an amazing band.

Tony was a regular at the Red House Folk Club in Whitchurch Hampshire.
Always helpful and supportive to those just starting out.
Will be sadly missed by all who knew him
