The Washington Post has got hold of a copy of
Mary Trump's book about her uncle and the Trump family.
They are printing little sound-bites from the book already.

If you can't get MSNBC live, listen to the snippets of the Rachel Maddow show tomorrow. On July 7 she read long passages from the book (having gotten a copy herself today and read it cover to cover before the show).

All the posts here are time stamped so even in this small pond one can see what was reported and when. There is also the fact of what is said by the candidate himself or by tweet.

Much has been said about the President going with his gut. There are only two things that guts produce. Gas and crap.

There have been so many single moments that should have disqualified him from consideration for one of the most difficult and important jobs on earth in the minds of all but the most greedy, stupid and racist individuals among us and breaking with the tradition of releasing his tax returns is certainly one of them. The SCOTUS could right that wrong very soon, or not.

trump said of his graduation from Wharton that he "had the highest possible grades" but the graduation program doesn't list him among the honors students. That program is about the only document regarding his academic career he's allowed to squeak through the cracks. Interestingly he's called into question the legitimacy of President Obama's academic record though it's well documented that Prez O graduated magna cum lauda from Harvard Law School and was elected president of the Harvard Law Review.
trump brings to mind that old joke about GH Bush-
-How do you know he's lying?
-His lips are moving.

She sounds like a throwback to "normal people." She and her brother were cheated out of their inheritance by the rest of the family, so some will claim "sour grapes."

The book must be going into extra printings; when I tried to order the hardback they said delivery would be sometime in August, so I cancelled that and ordered the Kindle version.

From a clinical psychologist point of view I see that Mary has made an accurate diagnosis. That she is family makes her more than an expert witness. I made the same dignosis as Mary in posts here without the benefit of as many years of experiencing the behavior of Donald Trump.
At this point it is still opinion without a battery of tests that Donald has not submitted to. The only tests he hs taken has questions that show he can discern a rhino from a giraffe and elephant.
You be the judge, you can always 'go with your gut'.

Trump's grounds for attempting to block the book's publication was a supposed agreement among Trump family members to refrain from publishing disparaging material about one another.

That such an agreement would be considered necessary says volumes.

The only other families I'm aware of who have similar agreements are what are usually called "Mafia Families".

To those who did not *actively choose* to ignore them, all the facts we needed to know to anticipate the Trump catastrophuk were in plain sight. Some people knew them and casually dismissed them. Some people did not recognize the true danger, and refrained from voting. I am not sure that this book would have made much difference back then. Other than "piling on," I don't know how much difference it makes even now. He is still who he always was; no surprises. At this point, whose mind that might be swayed has not already been made up? I honestly do not understand.

because I forget which Mr. Trump the song is about.

Mary Trump's book includes her conclusion that
Donald Trump's, shall we say, condition is all about
his father, Fred Sr.,
according to the Washington Post.

This book is released on Wednesday. If you have ordered it via Kindle be sure to turn it on so it will download automatically.

The odd thing (still/so far) is that she still can't speak about it publicly while the non-disclosure agreement (NDA) is active; it seems to be generally understood that NDA's don't stand in the face of hiding a criminal enterprise. And since the family cheated Mary and her brother on the estate proceeds, the NDA should be thrown out as bogus. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/jul/04/mary-trump-book-nda-fraudulent-financial-information.

Earlier this week, a judge in New York granted a temporary restraining order against Mary Trump and the publisher. But in a sign that the book is likely to come out regardless, Simon & Schuster was released from the order, after saying it had printed 75,000 copies and started to ship them to sellers, and had been unaware of the NDA.

The family that lies together hides together as Trump tries to block his niece from speaking. He can't block the writing, that cat's out of the bag.

In a statement, Ted Boutrous, a lawyer for Mary Trump, called the order in New York supreme court in Dutchess county “a prior restraint on core political speech that flatly violates the first amendment”.

The book, he said, “addresses matters of great public concern and importance about a sitting president in election year [and] should not be suppressed even for one day”.

Legal document.

Donald Trump's, shall we say, condition is all about his father, Fred Sr.,

There was an interview including with her life-long friend who was acting as a spoke-person. And a lawyer also gave an assessment that Simon & Schuster were not part of the original gagging order so would not be bound by it. AND alluded to Mary's lawyers who were citing fraud in the splitting of the inheritance.

Mary is a psychologist, Uni lecturer no less, which adds credence to her assessment. The spokes-person said Mary stands to loose a lot in this debacle but felt obligated as a US (& world) citizen.

Trumps lawyers said it was an attempt to affect the Nov elections.
Which a "Legal Eagle" on U toob is adamant Trump cannot use Article 2 to delay (or stay) because - The Constitution says............. - well watch the video.

Mary Trump is scheduled to be on the Rachel Maddow show tomorrow (Thursday, July 16).

From what M. Trump says, the father, Fred Trump, sr, was a real piece of work. So far I haven't heard any discussion of *his* father; DJT's grandfather emigrated from Germany. The story goes that he immigrated to America to avoid military duty in Germany and that later he petitioned the German government to allow him to return but was denied.

Yes it was. Here is a link to the Pulitzer Award-winning stories by David Barstow, Susanne Craig and Russ Buettner of The New York Times. Mary Trump contributed tax documents to help them write these stories.

"For an exhaustive 18-month investigation of President Donald Trump’s finances that debunked his claims of self-made wealth and revealed a business empire riddled with tax dodges. (Moved by the Board from the Investigative Reporting category, where it was also entered.)"

Once she'd participated in these, and when the whole thing with children taken from the families at the border began, she decided it was time to speak out.

The grandmother warrants a bit of attention, it seems to me.
This is Elisabeth Trump, née Christ -- her maiden name
became the middle name of Donald Trump's father,
Frederick Christ Trump (pronounced 'krist' , I suppose).

After all, Fred Trump Senior was rather young when
his father died during the influenza pandemic;
and it was the widow, Elisabeth Trump, who went on with the real estate business.
Because Fred Trump Senior was a minor,
his widowed mother Elisabeth had to sign everything for him
and pretty much manage the business that he worked in, until
he came of age himself.
So, Fred Senior must have had his character formed
as much by his widowed mother as by his father.

I saw an anecdote that the long-lived widow Elisabeth,
when Fred Senior was at the peak of his own real estate career,
would go around to all the Trump residential properties,
to all of the coin-operated laundry rooms for tenants,
and take all the coins out of the washer and dryer machines ...

That was an interesting read, Helen. It appears that the Trumps have a knack for making money. It would be even more interesting to read an account of Friedrich's personal life. It doesn't seem likely that with the advent of Fred, Sr.the trumps suddenly discovered their despicable side.

I read the book last week. It seems Elizabeth Trump built the empire, Fred Senior consolidated it and Donald went bankrupt five times. The author Mary Trump has written a very good book, detailing formative influences in Donald's life (including the illness and absence of Donald's mother when he was very young). I hope for a change in American politics in November.

OK, I know this is not the fAcebook Martin guitar page but I also know there are a good many musicians here.

So, I have a question.

Today Mary Trump was a guest on The REIDout show. Trump, of course, was in her own home.

Against the wall leaned a guitar; I am wondering what kind it is. The headstock had a gentle slope on each side with a flat, squared mesa joining the slopes. (These are NOT technical terms)

But what kind is it?

I can't quite read the script, Ebbie, but judging from the slotted head stock and the design of it I think it's a Taylor nylon string.

The New York Times: Mary Trump sues Donald Trump, his sister Maryanne, and the whole Trump family

In the great chess game this is, surely she has to sue Captain Catastrophe and his siblings. Twitler threatens, she counters. She then has documents in a law court that would be used to defend against his actions. Assuming he is stoopid enough to carry out the threats.

And doesn't half (plus a bit) of the USA want her to go for the jugular? Plus a sizeable portion of the rest of the world, that isn't in Putin's pocket.

If one of the surviving siblings concurs, then it's game over. But they will give up income in the process, and they're Trumps. This does hit him where it hurts - the documents he doesn't want to share need to come out.

There are narcissists in my own family of origin as well,
even though they are not Trumps.

The detail that I cannot get out of my head,
is an image without Donald Trump in it.
It is the image of Mary Trump secretly recording a conversation
with Maryanne Trump Barry,
whom Mary Trump is now suing.

In Texas it is legal to make a recording of a conversation if one person knows it is being recorded. You'll have to look at the rules from state to state to decide if it passes the smell test. In a family of vipers like the Trumps, protecting herself by recording conversations makes perfect sense.

OK, another bombshell. The New York Times has acquired trump's tax records of the last 20 years. They are, let's say, interesting. For 11 of the last 18 he paid zero, zip, federal taxes. In both 2008 and 2009, when he was elected president he paid $750.00 in Federal taxes. That is Seven Hundred Fifty dollars.

Will he slide out of this? Will the polls suddenly show him leading among the electorate? Will he emerge triumphant? It doesn't seem possible but I suppose it is. His base seems impermeable. What scares me is the crowds he draws- if they are indicative of his standing among MOST American voters, we are doomed.

Incidentally I am one person who never saw The Apprentice but I had known of him for a number of years. It never occurred to me that anyone would take him seriously in the world of politics and that view was only enhanced by his couple of abortive attempts to run.

Ebbie - you and I might be horrified (although not surprised), but I can't help wondering how many of his fan base will admire him for this?

"Gee, I wonder how I could weasel out of paying taxes too? He must be pretty smart to be able to get away with it."

Or something along those lines.

Oh dear. You could be right. In trying to get inside my brother's head - he is a trumper - I don't THINK that would be his response, I THINK that he would/will be more along the lines of 'It's just another liberal lie!'. On the other hand, I was wrong in thinking he'd never fall for the Con, so what do I know.

Mary Trump has a lot to say about the Trumps and taxes. In a nutshell, the Trumps hate to pay them and cheat to avoid doing so.

I imagine there is great relief in the family to have him unelected, but now he'll have the leisure (possibly) to turn his attention to family matters. I wonder if her lawsuit will go forward (along with so many others he is facing). I think she filed her suit on the day the RNC started - it was a strategic date, at any rate, I'm sure calculated to rattle him.

I have known a fair few pretty men, Steve, although I admit they were all quite young; it’s not a quality that typically survives beyond a man’s 30th birthday.

I wonder if Mary Trump can stop herself grinning like a possum right now. The schadenfreude runs deep with that one.

I don't think "schadenfreude" is the same thing as being happy something turned out good. Is it schadenfreude to be glad someone got what was coming to him?
One wonders if, after the electoral college verifies the eletcion results, the secret service doesn't have to drag him out, and put all his stuff on the lawn.
But Biden is very patient.

Yes, Jeri, you're right; schadenfreude is enjoying the unhappiness of others. But Mary would have to be some kind of saint not to be at least a little gleeful that Mr T is facing a comeuppance.

I wanna see that gold-plated toilet out on a lawn somewhere. And the weird "holiday" decor I remember from a couple of years ago. That would please, not only me, but also the shade of Jackie O, I imagine.

I imagine Melania won't shift herself to do xmas in the White House this year - it's a good thing that HGTV has so many recordings of Christmas Past they can play for the healing nation.

I thought that look she came up with was interesting, actually, but not in that setting. It would have been perfect in the long connecting corridors of one of our dying North American malls, perhaps, to conceal the drop in the real estate market with so many boarded up spaces, but the White House xmas is always about group participation, with thousands of volunteers designing trees, creating the ornaments, and a professional crew putting it in place throughout the building.

Mary Trump has a career/practice of her own, and has risen to the challenge of diagnosing what ails the current commander in chief. I suspect MSNBC is tempted to offer her a weekend afternoon spot, but she's probably going to be happier returning to a "normal" life, and turning up occasionally to answer Lawrence O'Donnell's questions as the Trump administration implodes.

Does anyone else get the impression that Melanie is distancing herself from the Turnip? It could be just me but her body language seems to be saying "I don't want to be near this man". If they split she could make an interesting book but I suspect there were prenuptial arrangements in place!

I'll add this bit here since it isn't the prosecution end of things, it's the "too much" (as in, we'll again hear too much from The Donald):
Donald Trump to launch his own social media site in a few months, adviser says

If he manages to set up a site (that isn't platformed by Google or Amazon in the backend) it still may be blocked by Facebook and Twitter as far as sharing his remarks (is my guess). The trouble is, any time he has a platform he attracts attention and the media follow him to get the ratings. It's a truly viscous cycle.
