Iím sitting here and feeling lonesome
Got a sick note from that Boris Johnson, mm, mm
Lifeís a bore now one has found
No more we go out on the town
And every neighbourís gone to ground
In a country now thatís locking down

Home and housebound, we wail in chorus
Home and housebound
Home, where weíre isolating
Home, where thereís no escaping
Home, where no bug lies waiting
Silently for us

Now everyday we check news streams
More casualties and no vaccines, mm, mm
And every dayís the same for me
The movies and box set series
Plus dismal documentaries
At least no more soap operas to see

Tonight weíll drink with Scrabble again
Iíll play the game but never win, mm, mm
Cos all my words are crap for me
The good tiles donít come easily
Iím left with R, I, Zee and E
Iíd win with PRIZE, but I need a P

Iím tired of this Coronavirus
If I survive all this old lockdown crisis, mm, mm
Iíll be glad of one more chance
Iíll go mad and learn to dance
Iíll party hard, so understand
From every club, Iíll be one man banned.

Yes, these songs are all very amusing the face of TrumPublican lies, disnformation, refusal & denial of reality and scientific fact which will result in the deaths of countless persons.

May I suggest Patrick Sky's "Dance Of Death"? which also speaks to the wider context of Trump's Cult & their Covid 19 bullshit - 'a clock that's shaken hard enough....'

For thet matter Pat's "Songs That Made America (AmeriKKKa?) Famous is worth a re-listen. Shows ya how far we've come in more than half a century.

As I walked out in the streets of Laredo
As I walked out in Laredo one day
I saw a young cowboy, wrapped all in white linen
Wrapped in white linen, as cold as the clay

Oh, beat the drum slowly and play the fife lowly
For now I lie wasted when once I stood strong
Take me to the valley, there lay the sod o'er me
I'm a young cowboy in a world that's gone wrong

I see by your outfit that you are a cowboy
These words he did say as I boldly walked by
Come sit down beside me and hear my sad story
Once I loved life, now I know I must die

Oh, beat the drum slowly and play the fife lowly
For now I lie wasted when once I stood strong
Take me to the valley, there lay the sod o'er me
I'm a young cowboy in a world that's gone wrong

Go fetch me some water, a cool cup of water
To cool my parched lips, then the poor cowboy said
Before I returned, his spirit had left him
Had gone to his Maker, the cowboy was dead

Oh, beat the drum slowly and play the fife lowly
For now I lie wasted when once I stood strong
Take me to the valley, there lay the sod o'er me
I'm a young cowboy in a world that's gone wrong

Subject: RE: BS: Sweet Caroline
From: Donuel - PM

Where it began, I can't begin to knowing
But then I know it's growing strong
Was in the spring
And spring became the summer
Who'd have believed it would come along
Hands, not touching hands
Reaching out, not touching me, not touching you

Sweet Quarantine
Good times never seemed so bad
I've been inclined
To believe we never could
But now I
Look at the night and it don't seem so lonely
We filled it up with only two
And when I hurt
Hurting runs off my shoulders
How can I hurt without holding you
One, not touching one
Reaching out, not touching me, not touching youÖ
Sweet Quarantine
Good times never felt so bad...

(the heart goes on)

Every night on TV
I see it, I hear it
That's how I know Covid goes on
Far across the distance
And spaces between us
You have come to show you go on
Here, there, wherever you are
I believe that the virus goes on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my nose
And my cough will go on and on
Covid can touch us one time
And last for a lifetime
And never let go 'til we're gone

Once moreÖyou open the door...

mg, Are the "Dancing at Wuhan" lyrics your own?
I like them.

Susan of DT, I thought Some Little Bug was from 1915?
I first learned that song from the singing of Sara Grey, who has a slightly different tune and lilt from the early recordings I've recently heard on youtube. I'm surprised to read that the song was part of "an operetta" and I'd be interested in knowing more about the rest of the operetta.

Perhaps someone would like to put a tune to this.                                                                           The Flight of Covid19.

The aircraft took off, coded Covid19 for a trip around the Earth,
A morbid bringer of mayhem and death, to those of earlier birth.
It had no care for anyone, as it swooped from town to town,
Causing coughs, sore throats and sneezes and bringing people down.
It travelled the world with amazing speed, deathsí harbinger so cruel,
Brought out the worst in many folk, from Cleverest down to fool.
The media made itsí money from declaring all the worst,
Talked only of the negatives, so the panic bubble burst.
They wallowed in their stories, of deaths and bad infection,
They talked not of recovery, so great upon reflection
Even the clever went to grab all toilet rolls from the shop,
Despite the fact that common sense had told them all to stop.
The elderly were suffering , could not get goods and food,
All depleted because of idiots, stockpiling Ö..so rude!.
No-one cared but for themselves, or so it would appear,
But there were those who really cared, with loving hearts so dear.
What was considered good advice, the government provided,
But I have to say that common sense has just not coincided.
As the virus takes itsí course, itsí effects will take their toll,
A huge proportion will survive, but some will lose their soul.
Michael J Hill (c) March 2020.

Pete Denahy's take on the crisis, from the point of view of a toilet roll manufacturer, really cracked me up (sorry!) when I heard it.

I also enjoyed the suggestion from a YouTube respondent that some one should write a song from a tree's point of view on the TP shortages. Any takers?

I'm thinking this Tom Lehrer ditty is missing from this collection. I've revived it's thread which for some reason is below the line in BS:

By Tom Lehrer, ©1952

I Got It from Agnes

I love my friends,
And they love me,
We're just as close,
As we can be
And just because
We really care
Whatever we get
We share.

I got it from Agnes
She got it from Jim
We all agree it must have been Louise who gave it to him
Now she got it from Harry
Who got it from Marie
And everybody know that Marie
Got it from me.
Giles got it from Daphne.

She got it from Joan
Who picked it up in County Cork
A-kissin' the blarney stone
Pierre gave it to Shiela
Who must have brought it there
He got it from Francois and Jacques, aha!
Lucky Pierre!

Max got it from Edith
Who gets it ev'ry spring
She got it from her daddy
Who just gives her ev'rything
She then gave it to Daniel
Whose Spaniel has it now
Our dentist even got it
And we're still... wondering how.

Ah, but I got it from Agnes
Or maybe it was Sue...
Or Millie or Billie or Gillie or Willie-
It doesn't matter who
It might have been at the pub
Or at the club or in the loo
And if you will be my friend, then I might...
(Mind you, I said "might"...)
Give it to you!

By Orit Klein Varsky:

You know the ballad Twa Corbies? I made a parody of it

Twa Covids

As I was walking all alane
I saw two masked men makking mane
The tane unto the tether did say
Where shall we stock pile stuff today
Where shall we stock pile stuff today

In beyond yon aldi store
I saw some TP, more and more
And naebody kens that it is there
But the guard and the staff and the manager
But the guard and the staff and the manager

The guard is to the washroom gane
The staff to bring more packets hame
And the manager is gane out smoking
So we may make our stock piling
We may make our stock piling

You'll sit on the guard's breast bane
And I'll pick out some "extra fine"
With many a packet many roles
We'll never lack TP at all
Never lack TP at all

Mony a one of them maks mane
But nane has TP stocked at hame
O'er the TP isles when they are bare
The wind shall blow for ever mair
The wind shall blow for ever mair

but John Schumann (who wrote the original) asked him to take it down.

Oldest rick in the book - new lyrics to established tune, now write a new tune to the new lyrics. New song, no copyright. I guess it depends on the words lifted from the original. But in English there are so many words to choose from it is relatively easy to get round that one. A parody does require knowing the original, to give it more traction, so is the effort worth it?

From: Joe Offer

50 ways to beat Corona (with apologies to Simon and Garfunkel)

She said itís getting bad out there, youíd best stock up on food
The thing we need to do right now is practice solitude
If it gets out of hand you know weíre really all quite screwed
Unless we find 50 ways to kill Corona.

The danger is quite real, she said, although we cannot see
If weíre too late it could spell the end of humanity
The situationís urgent, so we all must act quickly
To find the 50 ways to kill Corona.
50 ways to kill Corona.

You just take a step back, Jack
Keep your hands clean, Gene
Stay 6 feet away, Ray
Keep your distance from me.
Yeah, stay home from work, Kirk
Donít be a germ spreading jerk
Just put the mask on, John,
And keep us healthy.

I said to be afraid is not my kind of thing
And I donít understand this talk of social distancing
The world is changing much too fast, I find it puzzling
So could you please explain the 50 ways.

She told me thereís no more time for talk, you must listen to me
I have a PhD in epidemiology
Iíve read all the research reports from the CDC
And Iíve got 50 ways to kill Corona.
50 ways to kill Corona.

Yeah, stay off the bus, Gus
Donít get on that plane, Jane
Donít touch your face, Grace
You just listen to me.
Donít cough in the air, Claire
You might spread a disease there
Donít sneeze on Louise, please
Just keep us healthy.

I said it seems to me that everything you say
Is now the new behavior we must practice every day
If we want any chance to keep this perilous disease at bay
So Iíll try every way.

Now we all know the methods to keep ourselves disease free
We all can soon look forward to a return to normalcy
But until then I think Iíll go and buy some more TP!
So letís use 50 ways to kill Corona.
50 ways to kill Corona.

You just take a step back, Jack
Keep your hands clean, Gene
Stay 6 feet away, Ray
Keep your distance from me.
Yeah, stay home from work, Kirk
Donít be a germ spreading jerk
Just put the mask on, John,
And keep us healthy.

Yeah, stay off the bus, Gus
Donít get on that plane, Jane
Donít touch your face, Grace
You just listen to me.
Donít cough in the air, Claire
You might spread a disease there
And donít sneeze on Louise, please
Just keep us healthy.

from sanchobrable (Tony) who runs Wessex Acoustic Calendar and, in more normal times, an e-mail update on news/changes/RIPs/corrections. For an area from Cornwall to Surrey and up into Gloucestershre, approx.

Talking Coronavirus Blues

I gave my pretty woman a hug and a kiss.
She sprayed me with Dettol and called the police.
Turns out sheíd been watching that BBC News
and thatís whatís got me to singing the blues.
Now, when we talk, I gotta give her a ring
cos sheís doing that social distancing thing.
Ainít never too late for self-isolatin'
cos thereís nothing so mean as that COVID-19.

I went along to Asda and joined a queue
hoping to buy some rolls for the loo.
I asked a Ďcolleagueí (member of staff)í
He said, ĎMate, you must be having a laughí.
When I went to the checkout, the girl at the till
said, ĎYouíll just have to use the back of your bill.í
Ainít never too late for self-isolatin'
cos thereís nothing so mean as that COVID-19.

I was sat in the garden reading that chap Chaucer
when out of the sky comes a flying saucer.
An alien descended, just like in a dream.
Then he saw my mask and he let out a scream.
He got back inside and away he flew
all the way home to Aldebaroo.
Ainít never too late for self-isolatin'
Cos thereís nothing so mean as that COVID-19.

If any of you would like to render the above musically and commit it to YouTube, please feel free. Just credit me with the lyrics.

Keep well,

Tony

I am the very model of effective social distancing
I listen to the experts on the topic of resistance-ing
I know that brunch and yoga class arenít nearly as imperative
As doing what I can to change the nationís viral narrative

Iím very well acquainted, too, with living solitarily
And confident that everyone can do it temporarily
Go take a walk, or ride a bike, or dig into an unread book
Avoid the bars and restaurants and carry out, or learn to cook

Thereís lots of stuff to watch online while keeping safe from sinus ills
(In this case, itís far better to enjoy your Netflix MINUS chills)
Adopt a pet, compose a ballad, write some earnest doggerel
And help demolish Trump before our next event inaugural

Pandemics are alarming, but they are not insurmountable
If everybody pitches in to hold ourselves accountable
In short, please do your part to practice prudent co-existence-ing
And be the very model of effective social distancing!

hat tip to Vicki Solomon who got it from Mary O'Brien who got this via Barbara Millikan who got it from the author Eliza Rubenstein

It's a San Francisco thing....

Six-Foot Blues
words: Steve Woodbury and Ann Bauer (March, 2020)
tune: Five-Foot-Two, Eyes of Blue

Five-foot-two ó no, that wonít do!
Gotta stay six feet from you.
Thatís why Iíve got the six-foot blues!
    ĎSocial Distanceí gets resistance
       But the CDCís insistence
Gives us all the six-foot blues!

Coronavirus does inspire us,
    Reading the news,
To obey what they say;
As citizens we pay our dues.

If weíre at sea, there must be
One full fathom ítwixt you and me,
Thatís why weíve got the six foot blues!
    Five-foot-two ó that wonít do!
Gotta stay six feet from you,
Now weíve all got the six-foot blues!

If I stay at home, all alone,
    Iíll be so blue;
If I go out and walk about,
Thereís a chance that Iíll see you.

Miss my family and friends a lot,
Wary neighbors is what Iíve got,
Because theyíve got those six-foot blues!
    Five-foot-two ó that wonít do!
Gotta stay six feet from you
Now weíve all got the six-foot blues!

This new metric, antiseptic,
    Is our routine;
The separation for conversation:
    About two meters in between!

I miss the music, I miss the fizz,
Shutdown news is all there is,
Thatís why Iíve got those six-foot blues.
    Five-foot-two ó that wonít do!
Gotta stay six feet from you,

Corona, Corona, Where you been so long?
Corona, Corona, Where you been so long?
How Iím worryin' 'bout you, You sure done me wrong.

I got a bird that whistles, I got a bird that sings.
I got a bird that whistles, I got a bird that sings.
Now Iíve got Corona, Life don't mean a thing.

Corona, Corona, You're on my mind.
Corona, Corona, You're on my mind.
Now I'm thinkin' about you, I just can't keep from dying.

Well, as Tom Paxton used to say, I have been propelled into writing a song by the latest events (to the tune of When Iím Cleaning Windowsí):
C                        C7
Our cat goes out and he roams free
      F                     Adim
To take the air or take a pee
          C                           E7
Now he goes out much more than me
   Ab7                         C
Whilst weíre stuck in lockdown

Now every time we cough or sneeze
We use the elbows of our sleeves
But now our clothes are all diseased
Whilst weíre stuck in lockdown

With no vaccine or target drugs
Weíve burnt all clothes to kill the bugs
Indoors we sit, just wrapped in rugs
Whilst weíre stuck in lockdown

We wash our hands like they say so
My Happy Birthdayís rather slow
I do my best Marilyn Monroe
Whilst weíre stuck in lockdown

Yes, my rendition takes so long
Outside the door, queues quite a throng
Saying ďmass gatherings are banned as wrongĒ
Whilst weíre stuck in lockdown

   C                                              D7
Now to lose our loved ones, we all must be prepared
G7                                                                   C
But if itís just loved ones, maybe I will then be spared

Now no one knows how long itís for
And so I sing out my front door
Our neighbours beg me ďplease no moreĒ
Whilst weíre stuck in lockdown

Just trying to cheer up those poor souls
But they lob missiles, truth be told
An endless stream of toilet rolls
Whilst weíre stuck in lockdown

Whilst weíre indoors the cat does play
Uprooting seedlings night and day
To him itís one big litter tray
Whilst weíre stuck in lockdown

To pass the time, I do crosswords
The catís goes off to chase the birds
And leaves my lawn festooned with tell tale signs
Whilst weíre stuck in lockdown

The strain is showing here indoors
Thereís not a lot to stop being bored
We have cross words, and thatís for sure
Whilst weíre stuck in lockdown

    C                                     D7
I really couldnít wait, when they said isolate
G7                                                                   C
All I seem to do now, is just wait and wait and wait

At last weíre germ free, I now think
My wife pours out my favourite drink
To disinfect the taps and sink
Whilst weíre stuck in lockdown

So we sit here in lockdown Hell
Sod all to eat, nor drink as well
My vodkaís gone to make hand gel
Whilst weíre stuck in lockdown.

Hey, remember the Disney film about
Snow White and the Seven Dwarves,
and when Snow White wants everybody to ... gulp ...

"wash up" ?!
It's a whole musical set-piece, remember?

Step Up To The Tub!
Ain't no disgrace
Just pull up your sleeves
And get' em in place
Then scoop up the water and rub it on your face and go
"bllllllll blllllllllll bllllllllm"!

Pick up the soap.
Now, don't try to bluff!
Work up the later,
And when you got enough,
Get your hands full o' water
And you snort and you snuff and go
"bllllll    bllllllll bllllllm"!

You douse and you souse
You rub and you scrub
You splutter and splash
All over the tub
You may be cold an' wet when you're done
But you gotta admit it's good clean fun!

Now, scrub good and hard!
It can't be denied
That you'll look mighty cute
As soon as you're dried!
Then it's good for the soul
And it's good for the hide to go
"bllllllll   blllllllllll    blllllllllm!"

... and Dopey swallows a bar of soap
and starts hiccupping bubbles ...
those were the days ...

Corona, Corona
Got the disease
Corona, Corona
Got the disease
Got such a bad fever
I'm weak in the knees

Corona, Corona
Where you been so long?
Corona, Corona
Where you been so long?
Wuhan Hospital
Place gone crazy wrong

Go away Corona
Go away from my door
Go away Corona
Go away from my door
Take your plagues and your frogs
To Pharoah's door

Corona, Corona
This country's got the blues
Corona, Corona
This country's got the blues
Dis-ease keeps spreading
Whole world is pretty confused

my 2 cents (with no apologies)

This was written for the "Beast from the East" blizzard a couple of years ago, which left a lot of supermarket shelves empty where I live. The virus could have similar effects, so it's resurfaced.

No flour in Scotland!
When will we see
Sliced breid again?
No Motherís Pride for
Your wee bit piece and jam
No cheesey toasties
(fur who?)
Wur tartan army
Just pictures of empty shelves
Aye, blink again!

Those days are past now
But icy blast, it may remain
But we might still drive (how?)
Tae get tae Asda again
And stand in queues there
(Whit for?)
Wur milk, breid an whisky,
And carry them homewards
Tae drink again...

I've read a Tweet (or something to that effect) that said you can sing the name "COVID-19" to the tune of "Come On Eileen"

I'll allow a more musically-inclined member to come up with a song to that affect, unless I get bored and find some unexpected motivation to do it myself.

Flip Breskin shared this via Facebook this morning, she got it from Eliza Rubenstein. I hope I don't have to name the tune that will jump into your head:

I am the very model of effective social distancing!
I listen to the experts on the topic of resistance-ing;
I know that brunch and yoga class arenít nearly as imperative
As doing what I can to change the nationís viral narrative.

Iím very well acquainted, too, with living solitarily
And confident that everyone can do it temporarily:
Go take a walk, or ride a bike, or dig into an unread book;
Avoid the bars and restaurants and carry out, or learn to cook.

Thereís lots of stuff to watch online while keeping safe from sinus ills
(In this case, itís far better to enjoy your Netflix MINUS chills)!
Adopt a pet, compose a ballad, write some earnest doggerel,
And help demolish Trump before our next event inaugural.

Pandemics are alarming, but they arenít insurmountable
If everybody pitches in to hold ourselves accountable.
In short, please do your part to practice prudent co-existence-ing,
And be the very model of effective social distancing!

Come Sing a Song with Me" -- Covid-19 version...

Come wash your hands with me
Come wash your hands with me
Come wash your hands with me
So we can have peace of mind

And Iíll bring you soap
When soap is hard to find
And Iíll sing this song with you
As we protect humankind
