Llanstock Redux   25-26 June 2016

We have the makings of a jolly musical Mudcat gathering this summer, in the lovely small Welsh town of Llanfair Caereinion, the home of Bron, known here on Mudcat as Llanfair.

Some of you with long memories may remember previous Llanstocks where Mudcatters previously unknown to each other in real life, made life-long friendships through sharing music.
[Just type Llanstock into the Filter box, set age to "All" and spend some time finding out what previous ones were like.]

What is planned is very informal.
Bron is discussing possibilities with the Black Lion re our making music there, they do food and drink, there are B&Bs in the town and a campsite not far away. What more could you want?
(A Light Railway, you say? Yup, that too!)

What happens depends very much on who comes but I expect it will involve playing, singing and sharing music, eating, drinking, socialising and perhaps a little making merry!

More information on application :) (Feel free to PM me if you wish.)

Who likes the idea?

Just spotted when I followed the link to the Light Railway, that the weekend we have chosen is their

Country Railway Weekend
25th June 2016

Experience the W&LLR in pre-preservation times as it served the agricultural community. Travel on our replica 1903 carriages, watch demonstration freight movements and trans-shipment, and admire vintage road vehicles.

Will this mean the local accommodation will get snapped up, Bron?

Accommodation shouldn't be a problem, most railway visitors come for a day out.

I can offer a small caravan, a bed settee, and a little floor space, the last two with built-in dogs. Julia can offer two bedrooms, the Goat does B&B, and there's a camp site a mile away.

All 3 pubs do meals, and there's a chip shop. I do amazing brunches.

I'll talk to the landlord of the Black Lion, those who came to the first Llanstocks won't recognise the Red Lion, it's not the same.

Book early to avoid disappointment!!!

I'm interested. If the musical events are going to be held in a pub, I would prefer to leave my car locked up and enjoy a drink, so I have a few questions:-

Is the B&B accommodation within walking distance of where the music will be taking place? Is it the sort of place that would accept guests returning late into the night? Is there car parking available?

Is the campsite, at a mile away, connected by a road safe for pedestrians?

Doug, The Goat is a short walk from The Black Lion and my place, and I don't think there's a problem with late comers. Both pubs have parking, but Powys will be charging for parking in the main car park if our protests fall on deaf ears,

I'm afraid few of our roads are safe for pedestrians, or cyclists, come to that, at night. There's no street lighting out of town, and the roads are bendy.

My caravan is now booked.

Sounds like a plan,,, we're just a bit away in Heredfordshire, on our way back from holiday that day so may come... we will have to see if we can arrange beds for the three of us, though. Limpit is quite a bit bigger than last time!

Saw the landlord of the Black Lion tonight, and he will be delighted to have us use the "smokers area" all weekend. It's a covered area outside with a log burner, bit like a small barn, and should be ideal. Let's hope it's warmed up by then!!

Not me Llanfair, although I do wish to thank you for your hospitality the time I went there and will freely say that I thought it was a very enjoyable do.

From my POV, both matters with my own health/drink, etc. problems and I guess what you could lump as a series of re-evaluations on life including what MC community means to me these days, even (while I still can enjoy the odd bits of local participation) what folk music means to me these days have changed things.

Still, I hope you have a good one and that maybe some new folk give it a whirl.

Hi, just stumbled on the other thread and found this one. Sounds great - unfortunately the wrong time for me. I'd have loved to see you all again (or those of you who are able to turn up). Hope you'll enjoy it!

Noreen, Doug, Andreas, all the best, and hopefully see you some other time.

Richard, you still in Dunblane? I'm going to visit Kate in August, might drag her out to the pub session.

Bron, I'll be in Wales in late August - hoping to catch Shrewsbury FF and visit a friend at Abergavenny. Let me know if you wouldn't mind me dropping in for a chat (and maybe a singaround?).

Hi Susanne! I hope you're well. No, not in Dunblane any more... I now live in the Midlands. After I left I don't know whether the pub still has a session but of course there will be others nearby. Still working out whether circumstances might allow me to come across for Llanstock. It would be good to meet old friends.
