Subject: Origins: SELEMPINO A Spanish Civil War Song?

In the British Sound Archive ,I found a short recording of a song which seems to be called Selempino
HERE
It is sung by Bernard McKenna and the notes about the performer say " Spanish Civil War veteran" Does anyone know anything about this song or the performer? The song is in Spanish but such words as I can understand suggest that it is a military song and I wonder whether it is a song originating in the Spanish Civil War' Does anyone know the whole song and if so what is it about?

Googling "bernard mckenna spain" produces lots of information on an interesting man. Here's a starter...

I'll try to chase the song later.

Thank you MartinRyan for the links which look interesting and I shall explore them more later. My wife has listened to the soundfragment and below I post the words she managed to catch from the song -in case it jogs anyone's memory -but we can't make proper sense of the third line. Any ideas? Could Selempino be a place name? Google produces nothing for me.

I understood it as "Cuando venga la misión adelante el batallón".

Thank you Monique - that makes a lot more sense, and when you listen to it it sounds right.

It might be understood as "Cuando venga a la misión..." too.
The only thing with "selempino" I came across is there at the very top of the 2012 03 17, 3:16 post; it's a site about the Legion.
"Selempino" (spelled "Selempinó" in the post at the link) can't be found wherever else I checked. I have no idea if there's any pun with "se le empinó" (= it raised [to him]).
