ART! Buddy! No!! Listen, you can work through this. All Is Not Lost!! Life really IS worth living! Don't do that to yourself!! A Bud Light if you must, but never a Coors Light!! If you do that you're throwing everything away! Everything!! Santa might even put you on the "Naughty" list!

Come on, I'll get you to Group. Yeah, I'm in it too. The I-Haven't-Heard-From-My-Secret-Santa Group, or the IHHFMSS Group. Yeah, coffee's okay. So's hard liquor. But none of that...you-know-what. No CL. That'll rot your tubes.

Hoorah, my Santa is here!

Thank you Santa, for your fantastic Sly Fox poetry, you obviously know how much I love Foxes! There are two young Foxes who visit our garden daily at the moment, are they your Helpers??? I'm sure they'll eat mince pies as everyone know they have a sweet tooth, but they prefer the meaty scraps and also the nuts and seeds scattered for the birds.

You also know I love stained glass, have you been peeking at my photos?

How will I find you Santa Dear, with your confusing Foxy ways? Torment indeed *grin*

way back on 07 Oct 13 Art said - Jenn and I are in. We're currently traveling, so give us a few days to update the hint list. Anywhere is fine.

Maybe the reason Art's Santa is not communicating is he & Jenn have not posted their hints!!

Coal or Coors Light might be be heading to The House of Brooks.

This is Art's Santa staggering back from the Local - did I see Billybob's Santa there? Well I have no idea - I was too busy looking through my beer glasses. And now there is the sleigh to pack and the reindeers to feed and I have a headache from too much celebration.

Stand by Art. Do not panic - moves are afoot

Hello there young lady - I guess you've been waiting for me a while. The elves messed up my computer and it has been in the shop for a few days. Anywho, it's back now and the elves have been put on double duties to make up for their mischief and to make sure that there will be a bagful of goodies heading east.

Now, do you wear earrings? Danglies or studs is the next question. We need the answer to make the right selection - Mrs Claus has way too many of the things and can quite easily donate a pair for such a worthy cause.

By the way, we do know that you have been exceptionally good this year so there will be no chance of coal turning up in your bag this time.

I've got to go now, lots still to do.

Oh, we have been so busy! And yet I doubt if even one bantam has stirred in the night. All is now fully prepared for you and gifts have been chosen with care. Now to wrap them and box them and hope that they arrive in good order...I am of course trusting to you to keep your standards of behaviour high, as I don't always get ready as promptly as this and there are still some weeks to go in which you might let yourself down badly.
I shall be posting one elf on permanent surveillance duties, just in case, with the magic potion to transform the contents of the box into dust and ashes, but I sincerely hope he won't need to use it. If you leave the occasional snack or beverage out for him he will, I'm sure, be very grateful.
Hohohohohohohoho .....

Ms. Annie,   It's a long ride there and I'm wonderin' when to head out. If I get overly rambunctious and get your present to you too soon, would you kindly promise to just hang on to it until Christmastime before opening?   Better to have it securely in your hands than to have it idly lying on the shelf in Santa's rural Shoppe branch here in Smalltown U.S.A.

Dear Maeve's meditative MidWinter Magus,

How wise of you to be so well prepared early in the season! It must be due to your many, many, many years of experience. I shall endeavor to behave in such a manner to make you proud.

By the bye- you said "I shall be posting one elf on permanent surveillance duties...". It is indeed thoughtful and meditative in the extreme for you to tell me, but I must say we have already spotted your little helper. I hesitate to ask... but did you not think it a mite extreme to have him appear in the form of a weasel? Dancing around between the chicken coop and the stone wall in broad daylight with the bantams out and about, and wearing a white coat when the grass is still green... It does make one wonder. He is welcome to munch on voles, but not the chickens.

Anyroad, I thank you for your efficient and thoughtful efforts.

The elves have returned with interesting items. I can now begin to package and prepare them for transportation (the items, not the elves!).

All being well, I should be loading up the swallow for the trip to you before the month is out. Not sure how long it will take, however. I know the velocity of an unladen swallow, but I am experimenting. If it works out, the reindeer might be out of a job.

Even the reindeer were shocked. As for the elves, they just sit in a corner giggling and sometimes I here the word "Firecat" followed by even more giggles.

I'm always good!

Not to cast aspersions, but did you know that even though the reindeer claim to be boys, they're actually girls? Boy reindeers don't have antlers at this time of year.

The elves are probably jealous of my height. As my husband says, they're failed jockeys.

Are you sure they're not just trying to get me in trouble?

I found that some of the elves have given me defective reports. They have been disciplined (flogged while hung by the thumbs from the rigging) and serve as an example to the others. Any further false reports will have the reporter(s) keelhauled. Keelhauling is a harsh punishment you will say, but remember that this is the Arctic Ocean and a harsh environment.

Old Santa is not one of those nicey-nicey employers. Besides, where's an elf going to get a job in this economy? Hogwarts isn't hiring and scraping for one's self in the countryside isn't exactly a flat in Soho or even in Glasgow.

Maeve, my surveillance elf is far too astute to be detected ... she is unlikely to be in animal guise, whether stoat, weasel, ferret, coyote or porcupine and although her singing voice has been criticised it has never before been described as "howling wildly". I suggest you put all of your efforts into better behaviour (it is misleading to think that if you are working hard you are necessarily behaving well ... much depends on what kind of work you are doing) and don't try too hard to spot my elf. The occasional bowl of porridge (I believe you refer to it as "oatmeal") left in a quiet spot might help (sweetened with honey and cinnamon, if it's not too much trouble) and if my elf doesn't eat it perhaps some other creature might.
You have, however, successfully worried my reindeer now about the presence of the coyotes. Rudolph wonders whether a glowing proboscis is likely to scare them off.

Dear Meditative Santa,

I am sure your elf is both subtle and clever, but I worry that yesterday's gale may have been a challenge. I do hope he/she wasn't sheltering in the grape arbor when the wind lifted it and redeposited it a foot away?

As for behavior, I defy anyone to behave poorly when sharing home, land, and life with such a treasure of a husband as I married. Kindly tell your elf that a warm welcome awaits within our house. No need to shiver outside in hopes of porridge- come along inside and have a bowlful beside the woodstove while I spin this year's fleeces.

Cordially,

Maeve

My Santa's so secret that I'm beginning to question his or her existance at all. My house brownies Hash and McGhee who keep watch over my townshack haven't heard anything of any strange elves snooping about yet and Mudcat has thus far left me in a state of cluelessness. I hope I hear from you sooner than later. If Santa's been waiting for Black Friday, I think Robinson Crusoe has called him back home unexpectedly. Please make yourself known so that we can make your task as easy as possible. Thank you.

Encouragement is to be encouraged...but please bear in mind that my brain is fried (actually, I hope I put it and my vocabulary in a safe place where I can retrieve them later) and I'm emotionally exhausted. Even the simplest of puzzlements may be overwhelming.

But, Santa, you COULD let me know you exist...
