Whew!!!

I noticed that the thread under this one was titled, "Shipping human remains to UK." I'm glad His Gnomeship survived the transcontinental flight, so we don't have to worry about shipping him home in less-than-intact condition.

Have a good time in Maine, Micca.

after all these years, I KNOW not to speak to Mary if our path should chance to cross, especially in that risky period before work, Alice has said "hello" and I am settling in, it feels like Home here! but then I have been visiting for nearly 10 years, and I know I am among friends, whom I have missed a lot! more when I have rested after a long and sometimes tedious day!

His Lordship arrived after midnight. A slam and a squeal woke me. We chatted for a while though I was still asleep and remember little of it. Alice is happy; Freddie is not; Lizzie is not sure. They will all settle down by noontime.
Looking forward to catching up with my travelling buddy.
Let the games begin!

Micca and shared some odd sparkling wine and some very nice red along with lasagna. Laughed and talked until I was falling asleep.
Just spoke with jacqui. She may be getting Micca into Old Port (and his favorite wine store.

What mMary omitted to mention was the "odd sparkling wine" was a frizzante called "il Fagetto" is there a message here I wonder? it tasted slightly "cheezy" nyway after a splendid evening of bringing up to date, laughing (a lot of this) and drinking wine, I am at least partway recovered and am getting used to the humidity and heat here,I had a nice trip with Jacquie into Portland Old Port this afternoon to visit my friend Jacques at one of my Fave wine shops and now we are off to eat!!

Lazy day here. We went TJ Hooker's for steaks last night with wine. Then came home to wine. I managed to shatter a wine glass in the middle of the night while trying to get Freddie in. I hoovered up the glass but lost interest in cleaning - it is too damn hot and sticky. Hope Dean and Judy are near-sighted.

So we are lazing around debating about lunch.

I really may have to move to Alaska if this is what Maine is to be.

Micca has behaved relatively well. Got himself up and showered, sorted out coffee and breakfast for himself without disturbing me. He even remained quiet while I got some coffee into me.

One side effect of Micca's visit is a huge amount of things left in odd places. I awoke around 3AM to let Freddie in and managed to brush a glass of a desk. It shattered. I swept and vacuumed - at 3AM and still managed to get glass in my foot.
Should have left a light on for me.
Dean just called
They will be here about 10:30.
Then off to see the Captain and Jacqui.

Micca, finally home from my time on the beach with a group of teens.... my purse was stolen during the weekend so it'll be a few days before I get one of our old phones back in service. The purse was turnt in but the two phones (both just upgraded) and my camera are gone gone gone... I'll message you when I have a phone again.
Perhaps you were right about it being an unwise idea.... but I must say tenting on the beach was great fun under a full moon.

This thread is helping to restore my balance.

I enjoyed the sight of a lovely full moon on the beach four days ago; I believe it was about 1 PM at the time.

After meeting Micca today, I can certainly understand why people keep taking him to planes to go see other people...

Mary, Micca, everyone there, thanks so much for a really nice day!

Great food, lots of fun, time to spend chatting with Judy and Dean, even ranger1 made an appearance. i lost count of the number of dogs on the loose. The evening ended with a spectacular thunderstorm. Thank you jacqui - a long hot day for you I suspect.

Micca has been lazing about. With me working and our bus system sparce at best he has been homebound.
Tami is rescuing him today. Off to the woods to look for nests and loons and silly tourists.

The weather has cooled slightly and the humidity is gone so they have a beautiful day.

If they are from Massachussetts we call them "Massholes". :-)

Many moons ago when I worked for a travel agency, I would get calls from potential tourists asking "what day do the leaves change?" My response was often "well, they flip the switch October 1 so you'll want to be here a day or two before that".

On closer examination of photographic evidence the "schooner" has only 2 masts , and is, therefore, strictly speaking a Ketch!! but she was a bonny sight for all that. I love Beccas description of "Tourists from Mass" and the sun setting in the East??? well, I can't say I have seen that one, I suppose there are places on this coast where you can see it set over the water? Cape Cod? some of the offshore islands? Florida? sometimes people just don't get this "science" stuff (like evolution!)

Don't know that I've ever seen one here in California, although I think we're supposed to have them in Monterey harbor.
I haven't seen loons since I used to camp in the north woods of Wisconsin in the 1960s.

I used to manage a Kennebunkport shop (a year-round shop, to boot) with the tourist information bureau on the back porch (overlooking the river). I used to keep one ear cocked out there to hear the stupid stuff tourists say.

And they REALLY don't understand tides. Comments about the Basin at low tide, "They sure must use a lot of water in this town." And overheard when I crossed the bridge to the Clam Shack, "Isn't it nice how they park all the boats pointed in the same direction?"

One person came into the information bureau all upset because the waves weren't high enough. Somebody should turn them up...

And more times than I care to think about, "It's low tide now. When should we come back next summer for it to be high tide?"

You can't get to heaven if you're hit by a tourist... (or a "summer complaint").

Linn

"That glacier is dirty. You would think they'd clean it up."

To us, they are 'touri'. And funny as they can be, I suspect that we have all said/done similar things.

Ladies! Behave!
Micca got to meet the local pair of wild turkeys. Last year a lonely tom wandered the neighborhood crying pathetically. Now he's back with a companion.
Freddie put on a show for Micca. He stalked one of the turkeys and would have caught it if she hadn't ruffled her feathers and scared the crap out of him.
They left behind a feather. Nice.

Hey, Micca-me-love, just dashing by to say we can't wait to see you Wednesday AND Hunt has offered to drive you back to the bus station on Saturday- I didn't even have to ask him!

So now there remains just one minor dilemma to sort out:
The local church is having its annual Old Home Week Ham and Bean supper. Would you like that, or shall Hunt show off his newly acquired gourmet cooking skills (believe me, the man can cook!). Hmmm, ham n' beans or gourmet dinner? Decisions, decisions!

Meanwhile, if you are up early enough in the mornings, you will hear OUR local loon demonstrating how they got that name (hint: it isn't from the mystical call heard across the foggy morning pond. It's the territorial yodel done in midair).

Also, if you're very good we'll let you come to the kid's "Songs of Woody Guthrie' concert we are doing on Friday! You can demonstrate "Bling, blang, hammer with my hammer".
...I'll just leave that there and slip away for now...
