Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Nigel Paterson Date: 06 Aug 17 - 04:53 AM Rap, I have good doctors. By 'good' I mean they seem to know their stuff AND they listen to my concerns & answer my questions. I do what they tell me & thus far, it has worked for the pre-op routine. I am most troubled by the thought of a general anaesthetic. Pete, not much composing at the moment, but I'm using the time to work with a friend who is developing an app to enable severely disabled folk create their own music; melody & harmony. Chantey, you're right, not much fun around right now. By the end of the year, I should be in better shape. Thank you All for writing...it means a great deal to me, With Love, Nigel. |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Nigel Paterson Date: 05 Aug 17 - 05:49 AM Thanks, ChanteyLass, it is so often you who pops our thread back to the top of the list. I wouldn't mind a little TLC at the moment...struggling with Diverticulosis & Large Vessel Vasculitis. A very limited, 'low residue' diet (soo boring!) with surgery just around the corner. Summer holiday in Greece cancelled...not a very happy bunny. Love to All, Nigel. |

Walking outdoors is like walking through a pan of warm broth cooled just enough to eat safely. We had a break in the humidity on Friday which followed several days like this. It's only July. I'm dreading August. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Nigel Paterson Date: 19 Jul 17 - 05:06 AM Yes, it's the humidity that gets me every time. Need to get to the coast, but not possible at the moment. Keep cool, Rap 😅 |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: ranger1 Date: 04 Jul 17 - 08:17 PM The issue in Maine was partly due to us vs them mentality, and partly due to our governor being a petty tyrant. He got his way, they signed the budget, and I got to make the call recalling our two "non-essential" crew members back to work this AM. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 03 Jul 17 - 08:51 PM thanks, Chanteylass I love this comment - As long as the RI legislature continues to elect speakers who work in real estate we shall continue to have policies that are based on a misunderstanding of the economy. In addition, most corruption in the USA is based on real estate, and having real estate industry members in leadership guarantees a corrupt atmosphere. Real estate workers are very prominent in political life in Australia! One of our most prominent (in court again at the moment) is notorious for his over-the-top wedding that illegally blocked off streets, as well as voting on matters concerning his own properties. |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: ChanteyLass Date: 03 Jul 17 - 08:08 PM Rhode Island has no new budget. As of July 1, we are continuing to use the old one. RI is almost completely run by Democrats, including the state's speaker of the house who had his own Trump-like temper tantrum. Here's a progressive blogger's opinion. http://www.rifuture.org/ripda-new-speaker/ |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 03 Jul 17 - 10:45 AM do they have the same deep divisions as in Washington? or is there another reason? sandra (with apologies for this brief excursion off topic) |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Rapparee Date: 02 Jul 17 - 08:54 PM I understand that 11 haven't passed a budget for the budget year starting July 1. The budgets for some simply haven't yet been signed by the Governor. Seems like there was a LOT of overestimation of what the states thought they'd take in.... |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 01 Jul 17 - 11:32 PM great news fro Pat. Are any other states in similar trouble, Rap? |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Rapparee Date: 01 Jul 17 - 11:23 PM We are back from Seattle and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance said that Pat only need take anastrozole (spelling?) for five to seven years. NO radiation. NO chemotherapy. AND the SCCA is "patient sharing" her with the cancer center here. To put it mildly, YIPPEE!!! For you in the UK, also take a look at the state of Illinois.... Universities there are in danger of losing accreditation, the folks who manage the lotteries are pulling out, debts are unpaid, and the state debt only gets larger. No budget for 2+ years.... |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: gnu Date: 01 Jul 17 - 10:41 AM r1... sad stuff. I hope it gets sorted soon. I hope you saw my FB thread about softwood lumber and noted my quote about Irving changing the bill set aside in your legislature before closing session for the summer. Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: ranger1 Date: 01 Jul 17 - 09:28 AM The governor and the legislature couldn't agree on a budget by the end of the fiscal year (midnight last night) and the governor shut down the government. Only "essential" personnel are working until further notice. State police, corrections, warden service, fire marshal's office, psychiatric hospitals, and state parks. We're only essential in parks because it's the middle of summer, a holiday weekend, and public opinion, and we're running the parks with far too few people. I did get deemed essential, along with two other people, but two other members of my crew did not. It's a mess. This news report is pretty accurate: Maine government shutdown |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Nigel Paterson Date: 01 Jul 17 - 06:07 AM Ranger1, what on earth is happening in Maine? We get all the 'TrumpStuff' in the UK, but this has slipped under the radar. Sounds pretty desperate. |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Nigel Paterson Date: 27 Jun 17 - 07:56 AM Echoing gnu & ChanteyLass...best wishes to all. 'Those who would do us harm' seem to be able to strike as & when they choose, so do whatever you can to stay safe, remain vigilant on your travels but keep on keeping on. Edmund Burke's quotation was never more appropriate: "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing". |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Pete from seven stars link Date: 24 Jun 17 - 11:03 AM That's good to hear Rapparee. I hope any reservations about the designated doctor share have no negative effect on medical care. Tommy has been in hospital again, but it wasn't too serious and only 6 days. I must confess to feeling a bit stressed lately with the kids . Got quite a cough and not feeling as well as I could , and I have to remind myself that I have very little to complain about !. But tommy goes into respite for a few days next week , so perhaps I shall be more refreshed after ! |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Rapparee Date: 23 Jun 17 - 08:56 PM We're back from the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA). Good news! No radiation, no chemotherapy! Pat has to take an aromatase inhibitor for five to ten years, but the side effects of that are known and can be dealt with! She's already set up an appointment here for Monday, and SCCA will be "patient-sharing" with a doctor here (who she really, really doesn't care for) on here treatment. The best outcome would have been that nothing at all need by done, but we'll take this! I hope that the outcomes for all are at least as good as ours. |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Nigel Paterson Date: 23 Jun 17 - 12:41 PM Pat's words, taken from a PM. The full PM remains tucked in my wallet & accompanies me everywhere I go: "...Words cannot explain how important this thread has become to me and many others. Your terrible struggle shared by Ann and of course the rocky road your precious Jane traveled became a touchstone for me and I felt a closeness to all of you and our fellow travelers aboard the Rainbow. We have so many here that offer so much of themselves it has buoyed my spirits and my sense of friendship in a way I would never have believed possible in the cyber world. To this my contribution always felt so small and the only tools I have in hand are a sincere empathy for my friends and a strange, warped' and often too quick, sense of humor. I live with the words of two men always in mind: There is only what is. What should be never existed......Lenny Bruce If I laugh at any mortal thing, tis that I may not weep......Lord Byron..." |
