Apologies to all for my sporadic posts. As a good friend of mine said recently: "Life's been getting in the way of Life!"

Sandra...I need to write about the wonderful Music posts...give me a little more time, please.

ChanteyLass...my Granddaughter & her friend are currently in Peru. I wrote in an earlier post that they were doing a month's voluntary work, helping to build a school. It is actually an orphanage. They work in the mornings & play with the children in the afternoons. The Girls are both excellent sportswomen, enabling them to teach skills, establish purposeful training & best of all, have LOADS of fun with a large group of enthusiastic youngsters.

I will do my best to catch up with posting. I have neglected 'The Rainbow' of late...too much other 'stuff' getting in the way.

Pete - we're taking the same to workshop to the National Folk Festival at Easter as 3 daily sessions & expect lots of musicians!

We're also presenting a Family dance with musos ranging from 7 to 80 & all ages in between.

We're taking a few of our own 2nd generation members along - 2 brilliant fiddlers 13 & 15, 7-year old singer & multi-instrumentalist, 15 year old clarinetist, several dance callers late teens & twenties, 7-year old singer who is also a beginner fiddler,

a great time will be had.

ps. the grown up members also get gigs - Songs workshop, Tunes workshop & Colonial ball. Naturally the younger members are welcome at all gigs.

& I had lunch with some early members of Australia's oldest folk club - friends who joined in the mid 50s (when the club started) & late 50s talking & listening to the reminiscences.

Last night I presented a (very small - 9 audience members) but perfectly musically-formed concert. Then I caught up on a week of lack of sleep!

Tomorrow I'll be taking pics at a children's traditional Australian music session. We've presented the session several times & I love watching the kids enjoy the songs & music.

Have lifted my winter-weary spirits greatly this week with new music. Yesterday, I got our own Lonesome EJ's CD in the mail (it's great, by the way), and tonight J-boy and I went to see Anna (Roberts-Gevalt) & Elizabeth (LaPrelle) at a really nice little venue with great acoustics in Portland. It was great seeing the variety of ages in the audience, first folk concert I've been to where the majority of the audience may actually have been younger than me! I'll go to bed tonight with my head full of music.

Still here, reading, thinking, hoping, laughing, shedding a tear.

Triumphs & disasters...joys & sorrows...no matter what broadsides Life batters us with, there's usually someone aboard with knowledge & experience to offer wise words of comfort or a timely epithet.

Keep your eye on those sails, Mysha. We don't 'encourage' the unknown, but a little advance warning is always helpful (-:

Glad to help, Manuel. Moira and her husband live far from us yet are long-time friends.

Moira tells me that sadly, although not surprisingly, her good and dear friend Pearl, died about 2 weeks ago. Her husband Tony is coping and has loved ones to support him. Perhaps we can still offer thoughts and prayers on his behalf, as well as Moira and other friends who are grieving this loss.

Wendy- I suspected that you of all people would have tried the picture cards already- and it was worth trying! I hope you can find peace knowing that your health matters to all who love you. If I am sick, I'm on my own. Please accept appropriate care. You're still strong and capable even when you may need some caring yourself.

It's hard to have to be treated for something which doesn't make you feel ill. I hope the medicine gets your BP where it should be and the specialist can help you keep it steady.

I,m seeing doctor..s...for high blood pressure too. Been on tablets since last week but our home moniter is still registering high. I do hear that it is quite common as we get older. I suspect stressful situations don't help none, so here's wishing you some peace and calm moments, Wendy. Hopefully, with the sun appearing more often now, you might get to chill at the beach hut sometime.          Blessings.          Pete.

Oh what a can of worms...................

Got all the blood tests back and everything is clear, whew!!
But the blood pressure was still high, the ECG was ok I think, although he did keep looking at the screen and looking puzzled and then, just as I thought I was off out the door the Dr asked if there was any history of heart problems in the family?

So ok dad had a massive one when he was 55 but he was working for the Ministry of Defence in a very stressful job and was a heavy smoker, then my brother had a heart attack last year but had a very unhealthy life style. But, I am now on tablets and have to go to see a heart specialist!!

Not a very happy Bunny!!

Wendy, judging from the way my mother's medicine prescription regularly turn out to be bungled when I fetch them from the GP's practice, I would say the answer is: Hardly.

Curiously, when prescriptions and appointments were all done in doctor's handwriting, which the layman would consider unreadable, there hardly seemed to be any problems, whereas it appears that now that everything is communicated by computer, coordination has become much more difficult .

Then again, that's probably an "unwarranted generalisation" (Does that translate correctly into English idiom?)
But at least, when we're feeling the urge to drag their keyboards away from them and fill in the forms ourselves, we'll now know it's not just us.

Sandra, last August the mental health social worker said they were transferring mum to the community social worker as her team was possibly going to be closed . Somehow the transfer wasn't carried out! Yesterday the care company rang the continuing care team and hopefully they will be looking after mum's case from now on, fingers crossed. Maeve, yes we have tried pictures and cards etc, but we are past that now, we just have to interpret mums facial expressions and if she stands up hold her arm and see where she takes us!If we get continuing care then we will be funded for 24 hour care, it is very difficult to obtain but I am learning to jump through hoops! As long as we can keep her at home with us. It is beginning to wear Billy and I down but who knows how much longer mum will carry on? She has been living with us for four and a half years now and the deterioration has been getting worse almost daily, BUT she still has her lovely smile!

I had the blood tests on Friday and the ECG yesterday just need to battle with the receptionist from Hell to get an appointment to see the GP, ( that he said I must have this week, do they communicate I wonder?)

Mum is much weaker day by day, only taking fluids no more pureed food, she weighs 6 stone 5, just like a little bird. She has no speech so understanding her needs is becoming very difficult. Also I found out this morning that social services had closed her case last August, no wonder we have had no follow up visits!!

Onward and upward!!

The last one was quite warm, actually. I left my anorak in the car before I even started, by the top of the first hill, I'd asked the volunteer at the trail junction to hold onto my neck warmer for me, and by the end of the first 1/3 or the course, I'd ditched my hat and gloves.

In the good news department, I just finished the last of the three snowshoe races I'd signed up for. What an amazing experience! I was one of only 35 people who ran all three races of the series. Glad you are planning on going to the bereavement group Linn. No pat on the head here, but a warm hug. And I can only imagine how this winter weather and isolation and that goes with feet of snow piled everywhere can add to feeling beleaguered.

And likely it eventually will be alright   But 'alright' will be something different from what it was before you lost Tom.
