I'm pleased & not a little relieved to say that the piece of Music I've been writing, now finally entitled: The Voyage of 'The Rainbow', is finished. By that, I mean the overall composition is complete...I still have a considerable amount of editing & general 'tidying up' to do before I'm happy to reveal it to the World! Freda, the Macdonald River photo is absolutely beautiful. The tranquility positively oozes out of the shot. I know exactly what you mean about seeing stars...REALLY seeing stars for the first time. Our location couldn't have been more different. Ann & I were in the desert, well away from the centre of Dubai...we'd never seen so many stars (no light pollution)...we lay back in our folding chairs & gazed up in wonderment for ages...stunning experience.
       Janie, simple words that belie a deeper meaning...very grateful...you captured our mood precisely.
       We will be away soon for a few days. If one or two of you could stop by & check that the old ship remains steady on her course, that would be much appreciated.

I'm glad the latest tests have a good result Nigel and Ann. I've just been at a beautiful little folk festival in St Albans, a small historic town north of Sydney in a valley surrounded by low, tree covered mountains and the beautiful Macdonald river. What a peaceful weekend, with lots of folk music and a night sky full of so many stars, stars that I don't see living in the city.

I hope Ann enjoys her birthday!

As ever, thank you All for your thoughtfulness & compassion. The results of Jane's tests were the best we could have had, under the circumstances. The tumours are still no larger & the cancer has not spread any further than the previous scans revealed. She is on a plane to Dubai as I type this, returning to the UK mid-May to continue with her Maintenance Programme. The Royal Marsden Hospital really are taking such good care of her. Jane & all of us have to live with the thought that the cancer could 'flare up' at any time, but, for the moment at least, we are all doing our level best to live our lives as normally as possible. Ann has a landmark birthday coming up soon which we will be celebrating in Dubai with all the Family...I know they're planning something special, but even I'm not privy to the details!

Jane has the results of some more scans this week. If everything is ok & her Oncologist is happy, she will go to Dubai for about a month, after which, she will return to the UK for further monitoring. As & when I have news, I'll post immediately, but with these calmer waters, the sails set & the barometer rising, we have an opportunity to sit back & enjoy the view & savour the air,

Its "tax day" here in the Colonies and I am thinking that your family have ALL been heavily taxed lately so getting a rebate right now is a good thing and I'm so glad to hear it! About that dinner: I once declined the opportunity to dine, at extra cost, at a celebrity chef's restaurant on a cruise ship. Many people in my tour group saw it as a once-in-a lifetime opportunity. I said I was very much enjoying the included meals in the regular dining room and didn't think the extra cost could possibly be justified. Or, as I put it, "Just how much better can the celebrity chef make a steak, lobster, or any other food taste?"

Nigel and Ann, I think you are wise to step back even though that must be hard to do. Jane must know that you love her and will be there whenever she needs you. And I'm sure the Mudcat community will be here for you whenever you need us. Continuing prayers.

Got a tree full of grackles, sparrows, starlings, a pigeon, three mourning doves (which have got to be the most laid-back birds I ever saw), chickadees, downy and hairy woodpeckers, nuthatch but no partridge, 'cause it ain't a pear tree. Both Canadian and snow geese are back, and the blue jay. The cardinals have disappeared--about six weeks back, sun's shining, river's flowing and the wind ain't doing much to speak of.

Learning to live with (Jane's) cancer is similar in some respects to learning how to 'let go' as your Children work their way through school, go to college/uni & eventually 'fly the nest' to marry, seek work or just experience independence...stand on their own two feet.
         With the spread of Jane's cancer curtailed for the present, Ann & I have decided to 'take a step backwards' thereby giving Jane & her Family the independence to live their lives as they choose...we've been so closely involved (at times, probably too close) since January. Now is as good a time as any to 'take a back seat', whilst always waiting in the wings, so that we can respond quickly if anything 'unexpected' happens. We have discussed this with Jane & she feels too that it is the right course of action for all concerned. 'Lessons in Life'...you just never stop learning.

Hello Sandra...Jane really has 'grasped the nettle'. Her PMA has touched us all in a positive way...brave girl.

ChanteyLass, aspects of the meal were delicious, but overall, I was somewhat underwhelmed! The restaurant is owned by a VERY well known celebrity chef. A case of 'Talking the talk', but not quite 'Walking the walk!' However, nine of us crammed round a table intended for eight made up for any food shortcomings!

Welcome back Bruce...I trust You & your Good Lady are fit 'n' fine. Jane is doing remarkably well, all things considered. She is allowed to drive, so she can get out & about a bit. Over the Easter weekend, we were all able to take a short walk in the countryside...weather was good & the views were great. Ann & I are off into Central London today to see one of Jane's friends who is taking a break from Dubai. A nice lunch together in Covent Garden.
