Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Janie Date: 16 Jun 14 - 09:03 PM Funerals are all about family get-togethers, Jennie. At least, in my book. Affirming, in the best circumstances, the ties that bind and the multigenerational influence that always stretches from a past more distant than the oldest among us can know into a future more distant than the youngest among us can understand they will influence. That's my definition of immortality. {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}}} |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: JennieG Date: 16 Jun 14 - 06:17 PM Thank you to all. Tomorrow we will be driving to the town where John and his wife moved several years ago, 4-5 hours north of here (up in the Cold Country, although it will be warmer than it is here now)as the funeral is on Thursday afternoon. At least funerals provide opportunities for family get-togethers, don't they? Last time we saw one niece was at our son's wedding earlier this year, she and I joked that we only saw each other at funerals so a wedding was a pleasant change! Now it will be another funeral, her dad's. |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Janie Date: 13 Jun 14 - 08:45 PM I had the same thoughts, Ebbie, after my sister, 3 years older, died. Strange that while similar thoughts arose when my grandparents and my dad died, it was still different and more also more intense, with respect to my sister's death. Very concerned for our darlin' Spaw. A good song to pull together to lift up Spaw and Karen would lift me up also. Wonderful year for firebugs. Notice they like moist soils. Early this evening, before dusk, they were rising up from the grass in such numbers they appeared as a shimmering and gentle rain shower in reverse. I like to imagine each flash as loving energy going to each of you. |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Ebbie Date: 13 Jun 14 - 11:54 AM I'm sorry, JennieG. Maybe because I have/had three brothers close to my own age in a large family I have always thought of a brother/sister relationship as being a special one. When my youngest brother, younger than I by a year and a half, died, one of my losses was that it felt like he was the only one who remembered me from his whole life. |

We're expecting notification about the funeral soon, all we know at this stage is that it will be in the town where John and his wife lived for the past several years, four hours north of here. John was only just a year younger than I am, so I can't ever remember life without him. |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: JennieG Date: 11 Jun 14 - 06:37 PM That good to hear, Wendy! My brother John is holding his own, as the saying goes (I wonder where it came from? note to self: check saying), and my SIL told me that their daughters have both gone home as the immediate danger seems to have passed. They were waiting for a talk with his oncologist to see what happens next. We're geographically scattered; my brother and SIL live about four hours north of here but the hospital is a few hours further away again in Brisbane, our other brother lives in Sydney (six hours south-east from here), one of John's daughters also lives in Sydney, the other lives in Melbourne. Just as well we have planes, isn't it? Thank you, everyone, for your good thoughts and wishes, and I am sending lots more back! |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: billybob Date: 10 Jun 14 - 05:37 AM Well, after a weekend of non sleep, I gave myself a strong talking too and decided to stop being a wooze and take control. Phoned the social worker and said I felt bullied and requested another meeting for next week then I phoned the MD of the care company and he recommended a solicitor who has a division that deals with my sort of problem. Phoned them and a delightful young lady listened to my concerns and she is coming to see me next week with a lady who deals with finance. Mum still owns her bungalow and it is rented out to bring in a small income, I prefer not to sell it as the funds will start to deplete paying for her care , but we have run out of savings so we have to raise some money asap! Feel so much better and will wait and see what advice they can give me. The only fly in the ointment is my brother, who sees the bungalow as his " inheritance" nuff said on that !! Billy goes to see his consultant tomorrow, fingers crossed for the blood count, it is eighteen months since he finished chemo, hold him in your thoughts please? With love to all this beautiful crew, sailing on , the sea is blue as is the sky and the sun is beaming down here in sunny Frinton. Wendy xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: KT Date: 07 Jun 14 - 07:25 PM Hi all. I'm around these parts infrequently these days, but when I am, I always check in here, and though I don't often post, I do hold all of you in heart and mind. Wendy, you said, "That is who my mother IS!!" I love that!! You are SO right! As a former Recreation Therapist at our local home, I know that to be true, and it can't be emphasized enough! She is all that is evident in that photo, and SO much more! All the best to you as you continue this journey. And the best to everyone else, too. You are all dear folks, and I'm grateful to know you, even if only virtually. Just checking in here is comforting...just knowing you're all out there. KT |

Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: billybob Date: 07 Jun 14 - 07:35 AM Sending love to Jennie G, this is the most wonderful place to come for comfort and share your feelings,Nigel,as usual, puts it so well xx I had a meeting with mum's social worker yesterday, she brought a much younger lady with her who, I imagine is the team leader? I felt railroaded, didn't sleep at all last night. I feel they are pushing me in a direction I do not wish to go! I did have one moment of rebellion, I pointed out that it was 70 years since D day and that my mother had been in the Womens Royal Airforce throughout WW2 and on a day of giving thanks for all those brave people who were so young in 1944, I was beginning to feel that it was inconvenient living to 90!! Don't know if it made them think but I felt better. I made a point of showing them mum's memory book and opened the page with a photo of a beautiful nineteen year old in her uniform. That is who my mother IS!!The frail , confused old lady still has the same beautiful smile and she is still the same inside. Rant over, welcome home Ann, love to all the crew, I am off to the beach hut to have lunch with Billy in the rain!! Wendy xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: gnu Date: 07 Jun 14 - 06:29 AM JennieG, I can only echo what Nigel has said. His words lead me to muse. This thread is a combination of many 'shoulders'... each broad and always here if and when you need them. |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: Nigel Paterson Date: 07 Jun 14 - 06:17 AM ChanteyLass & everyone, yes, Ann is safely back from Charlotte, NC. I met her at Heathrow yesterday morning...a red-eye special, courtesy of US Airways. She is currently sleeping off the jet lag. We both recover from the East-West flight much quicker than the West-East overnight return. JennieG, you've come to the right place. Share what you need to share. There is wisdom, experience, love & support, right here. When Life's natural order is turned upside down, it IS odd...very odd. You are most welcome. The Crew of The Rainbow reaches out to you as only they know how. With Love, Nigel & Ann xxxxxxxxxx |
Subject: RE: Jane's Rainbow: for all needing support & comfort From: JennieG Date: 06 Jun 14 - 11:41 PM I don't post often, but do read this thread. Never thought I might need it, though. Yesterday morning my brother Ian (I have two younger brothers) rang to tell me that our brother John is in hospital and is not expected to last much longer. Last night my SIL said he was stable and as comfortable as could be expected, but it's now just a matter of time which could be as short as a few days, or as long as a few weeks. We aren't, and never have been,a close family, but there is no animosity - just distance, both literally and figuratively. However it's still an odd sensation to outlive a younger sibling. |
