Subject: BS: Fan letter to Mudcat From: Stringsinger Date: 24 Oct 10 - 12:01 PM Mudcat is a wonderful site. Joe Offer is to be commended for a great job in editing the threads. The Mudcat people have been passionate and alive but from their posts you can tell that they have a heartfelt interest in music and even when disagreements arise, for the most part, discourse has been civil and well-thought out. I want to personally thank Joe Offer, Max, Dick and all the people at Mudcat for a job well done. It's one of the most exciting places on the net. Not only can you get useful information on all topics but the resource for songs is invaluable, and it is a truly democratic site where anyone can express their opinions and knowledge with taste and respect. So as we go back to the barricades in both the Music and the BS sections, please know that you are being appreciated for your good service. Mudcat shows us the fact that we're on the same page when it comes to loving folk music and music in general and it brings people together to share this passion. Many heartfelt thanks. Subject: RE: BS: Fan letter to Mudcat From: Richard Bridge Date: 24 Oct 10 - 04:09 PM Cut the crap. Smegma and turds are both exhudate. The Mudcat is not a dog with erections longer than its legs. |

Subject: RE: BS: Fan letter to Mudcat From: Charley Noble Date: 25 Oct 10 - 08:32 AM Mudcat can be a great resource for folk music research, song-writing, finding new friends (and enemies), and learning about different parts of the world. I certainly had no experience like this with a website until my friend Brett directed me here back in 2000, back when glaciers ruled the world! Of course there are times when even the best threads implode or die for lack of interest. But I find that these times are more than made up for by the occasional flashes of brilliance, humor, or just plain information. My grateful thanks to Max, Joe, and the Joe Clones for their perseverance. Time to ante up with another donation! Cheerily, Charley Noble, who like most Mudcatters is only the fleeting figment of a deranged mind |

Subject: RE: BS: Fan letter to Mudcat From: frogprince Date: 25 Oct 10 - 10:14 AM As a non-performing, and non-expert, folk music addict, I live primarily "below the line" here. But there are a good handful of folks here that I consider cyber friends by now, and several whom my wife and I have really enjoyed getting to know in three dimensions. It's been well noted that this has become much more of a complex "community" than anyone would have anticipated. Hats off to the Founding Fathers. Dean |
Subject: RE: BS: Fan letter to Mudcat From: GUEST,Neil D Date: 25 Oct 10 - 10:34 AM I stumbled onto Mudcat a few years ago when I googled "Hogeye" and became immediately hooked. It has rejuvenated my love for music, many of my favorite musicians are now people I've learned about on Mudcat. I've also learned about books and movies and passed along my own thoughts, and it's the only place I go to discuss politics. But more importantly, I've made really good friends here. The support and encouragement I received from the wonderful folks at Mudcat when I was dealing with a dire medical crises in 08-09 was truly overwhelming. I still get choked up thinking about it and I'll never forget. Spending time here has given me the first sense of community I've had in a long time. I've laughed so hard it hurts at some of the stories. And I've wept at the passing of people I've never even met in person. I don't do MySpace and I don't do Facebook or any other networking sites, but I DO do Mudcat and will for as long as it lasts. So I'd like to thank Max and Joe and the other moderators for making it possible of course, but also all the many Mudcatters who bring passion, knowledge and humor into my daily life. And especially to all of you who have been so kind to me over the years, I thank you. Neil Devore |
