Okay Alison, I'll give 'er a go this way. If anyone can provide me with/guide me to the lyrics to the song, "Last Train From Poor Valley", and, if you have 'em ('cause I'm sorta lazy) the chords, I'd appreciate it. Believe it's a Norman Blake tune. Thanks.

Click here for a brief sample. McMusic, if you promise NEVER to post in a generic-titles thread again, maybe I can transcribe the lyrics for you. Or is it that you have the recording, and don't want to do the transcription yourself?

The Last Train From Poor Valley
(Norman Blake)

It was good one time
Everything was mighty fine
The coal tipples roared day and night
But things they got slow
For no reason that I know
And ill winds they hove into sight

The mines all closed down
Everybody lay around
There wasn't very much left to do
Except stand in that line
And get your ration scrip/script [take your pick!] on time
And woman I could see it killing you

CHORUS
Now the soft new snows of December
Lightly fall my cabin round
Saw the last train from Poor Valley
Taking brown haired Becky Richmond bound

It's been coming on I know
Soon you would be gone
Leaving crossed your mind every day
Then you said to me
Things are bad back home you see
I guess I'd better be on my way

CHORUS

I should blame you now
But I never could somehow
A miner's wife you weren't cut out to be
It wasn't what you thought
Just some dreams that you bought
When you left home and ran away with me

CHORUS

Thanks, Joe. I hereby swear and foreswear that I won't never do what you told me not to do, never, ever again as long I we both shall live. If I do break the oath by which I am foresworn, may my dog never hunt, my sow never grunt, my hens never lay, my fields lose their hay.... To be honest, I don't have a version of that song, but I heard it at a festival--the melody stuck with me, but I could never remember all the words. Thanks again.

McMusic is looking for the words and chords to this song. He thinks it was done by Norman Blake. I'm just helping him find "the Mudcat Way" to get his request met.

Roger,
McMusic has learned the lesson already as you can see following my link. My very short response was but another failed attempt at the fastest response time with a link.

Hey, Wolfgang has come up with three-minute responses twice now, that I've seen. I was the first with three minutes, but I've done it only once. I think that means we have a new champion.

G'day Catters I have found the lyrics for "The last Train From Poor Valley" in the Digitrad but can any one help me with a chord progression. If I had a copy of the tune I could work it out, but I have only heard it a couple of times and I am running on vague memory recall. perhaps the chord pro will help

regards Townes

Thank you. I've been trying to find the album Fields of November for weeks. It was introduced to me by a very good friend who's passed. I'm not much of a bluegrass fan, but I really liked Norman and his wife who collaborated on the album.I forgot his name but I remember just a little bit of the lyrics to Last Train from Poor Valley. That led me here. It's not exactly like I could ask my friend.
Now I can rest, knowing that I found it. Bought it on iTunes.
Many thanks,
Later 'tater.

I always thought the wife's name was "Becky Richmond", and that the lyric was "Takin' brown-haired Becky Richmond down" (as in "down home".) It never occurred to me until just now that her name was Becky and her home town was Richmond, and that she was "Richmond bound". Of course, that's why I'm called clueless!
