This illustrates just what you can do with a well-known title by the addition of 1 or 2 extra letters :

             The Lady Varnishes    The Menu

    Calamity Janet             The Women

20,000 Colleagues Under The Sea   (my favourite !)

So, over to you now !!-------

That's all for now, but shouldn't this be in "BS Threads" (unless someone quickly adds some folksong titles or band names or suchlike)?

Well, I guess it doesn't really matter,as long as it gets peoples' imaginations working ! My original idea was to add up to ,say,3 letters,as in "20,000 COLleagues under the Sea",but then "A Tale of Two ATROcities" already breaks my own rule ! So just go ahead and do your own thing ! Meanwhile----

                      The Wizard of Ozone

OK, I'll try to stick to the original concept (pretty much).

Waltzing With Beers

Allegheny Mooners

Mooning Over Miami

For hopscotch players and/or the homicide squad: I Chalk The Line

For Johnny Cash: Ring Of Mire or Ring of Fireflies

Bill Stained: Disgrace In The Choir

When Your Liver Has Gone (or, to apply the rules strictly: When Your Clover Has Gone)

Four Strong Windows

Michael, Throw The U-Boat Ashore

Let It Be Mean

For voyeurs: People Who Need Peepholes

Can we subtract letters? Like:

You've Got A Fiend

or

Seven Bries For Sven Bothers

Can't songs be subject to the same treatment?

I've always loved that tribute to the mild-mannered outlaw which begins:-

John hardly was a desperate little man...

But I think I'd like to salute above all the hobo poet and singer Woddy Guthrid who penned these immortal lyrics to the victims of the predatory lending system of the big banks -

This lend is your end...

Alice, "The Grapes of Wraith" :-) Very nice, but aren't you thinking of the novel by the Nobel prize winner John Stainbeck about the angry sex pest:-
The Gropes of Wrath.

He also wrote that very moving story about a union organiser in a sausage factory Of Mince And Men.
His great family saga about a bakery Yeast of Eden was filmed starring a broody James Bean as a doughboy in his last film before his tragic early death.
However I've always liked his rather under rated travelogue about his epic truck journey through Lancashire with an incontinent poodle, Travails with Chorley.

Micca, thanks for Plane Wreck at Los Gateaux, but remember Woddy's magnificent plaintive line "They were only divorcees.". He also deserves credit for his great love song Bound For Gloria.

Matthew

Actually, Matthew,I think you are confusing your John Steinway titles. You refer,I assume,to his novel about Teutonic porcelain manufacturers, " Of Meissen Men " ? Also, you seem to have confused one of your other titles with Chef Rick Steinberg's great work,or wok, even, about Biblical bickerings between Orpah and her sister,"The Gripes Of Ruth".

Thanks bubblyrat. I could be getting confused here but didn't Steamboat also write a tribute to that one-handed celebration of American onanism 'Portnoy's Complaint' titled The Grips of Roth?

Besides John Hardly which I mentioned above, John and Alan Lowax also recorded the great African American folk singer Hudie Ledbiter in the immortal, but much misunderstood, song Goodnight Irony.

Well it's geting very fanciful, but I think it's more interesting to stick to the original poster's challenge. Add a letter or two to the original title. (and I think subsequently modified to taking away a letter or two)
Once you can take away any letters you like, and replace them with any other letters, the transformations can get out of hand. Though possibly funnier!
