Has anyone else seen this nice piece of work by the Fox Network on Youtube?

They start by assuming that a man whose last name is Leslie can't be a real man. That sets the tone - we're listening to a bunch of 13 year old kids. The rest of the segment did nothing to change my opinion. If they were trying to be funny, they failed miserably.

We're getting just about down to the level of total idiocy here.
Maybe, just maybe, Fox is getting to the point where they will shoot themselves in their smelly little feet. A short time ago, Saint Rush characterized Michigan as "the least patriotic state", whateverthehell that was supposed to mean; that did not go over well with the howling right wing contingent here.

Pretty amateurish attempt really, and not very funny to boot.

If you want to get to the heart of what makes a nation tick, you've got to get right in there like the boys from Top Gear did. The most popular motoring TV show in the UK certainly gave a hint of how some the locals behave in the most advanced nation on the planet . . .

As diplomatically as I can put it, the segment does nothing to change my considered opinion of Fox broadcasting.

ANNISTON, Ala. - Field upon field of more than 1,000 battered M1 tanks, howitzers and other armored vehicles sit amid weeds here at the 15,000-acre Anniston Army Depot -- the idle, hulking formations symbolic of an Army that is wearing out faster than it is being rebuilt.
The Army and Marine Corps have sunk more than 40 percent of their ground combat equipment into the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to government data. An estimated $17 billion-plus worth of military equipment is destroyed or worn out each year, blasted by bombs, ground down by desert sand and used up to nine times the rate in times of peace. The gear is piling up at depots such as Anniston, waiting to be repaired.
The depletion of major equipment such as tanks, Bradley Fighting Vehicles, and especially helicopters and armored Humvees has left many military units in the United States without adequate training gear, officials say. Partly as a result of the shortages, many U.S. units are rated "unready" to deploy, officials say, raising alarm in Congress and concern among military leaders at a time when Iraq strategy is under review by the White House and the bipartisan Iraq Study Group.

US Army report dated Dec 5, 2006

Local USNG guys say the situation has not improved despite some bits and pieces of increased funding. And the machinery isn't the only thing that wears out.

I'm not addressing the Fox clip- it, of course, is appalling. However, the Top Gear clip is just as juvenile. I have no idea what they were trying to prove. I'd like to see the equivalent done in the UK- perhaps merrily painted cars depicting the Brits' army shooting Republicans? Or Sinn Fein assaulting bobbies in downtown London? An irony deficiency?

('Man Love'? Isn't that the paedophilia club/movement? They thought that was funny?)

Sure, the Alabamans should have caught on that it was a big put on, but the Englishers don't have a clue either.

Incidentally, when they "gave away" the vehicles, I hope the video just forgot to show that they also gave away the titles and registrations. Otherwise, the lucky recipients are in line to be charged with theft.

I made a comment once that I sometimes wished that Michigan was part of Canada. That clip demonstrates why. Thank God that it is only representative of Fox, and not the population as a whole. Although I must admit that there are far too many that might actually find the first shred of validity in that bit of ridiculous diatribe.

Having just come back from the weekend in one of the best cities in the world, in one of the finest countries in the world..... Toronto, Ontario, Canada ...... I hope that my Canadian friends will accept my apologies for these idiotic ravings from foolish, ugly, Americans.

All the best,

Mick

Excellent - exactly the reaction Clarkson et al wanted to provoke. Talk about showing your arse. The above quote (comparing jokes about Nascar and Hilary Clinton to the deaths of people in the North of Ireland isn't very funny - Jesus H. Christ on a bike) and calling them paeodophiles is just as fucking pathetic - is that the only thing you know about 'the Brits'? Get out there and throw them stones Ebbie!

I didn't mean to offend - my post was meant as a demonstration of the "There are dickheads like this in every country" in my post but perhaps I didn't make that obvious enough. Clarkson is a reprehensible boorish oik to say the least but judging by the reaction above, he understands some people can't laugh at themselves as a nation - do Americans have a problem with self-deprecation? I honestly thought that Americans would understand why this is funny - exposing the bigotry and intolerence of some of their own population (a national sport here, and not confined to rednecks either, but pretty much everyone).

Thank god not everyone is so easily offended.

You say, "I didn't mean to offend - my post was meant as a demonstration of the "There are dickheads like this in every country" in my post but perhaps I didn't make that obvious enough."

When one introduces someone that we in the US may never have heard of by saying: "The most popular motoring TV show in the UK", it lends credence to the idea that this is the writer's view. Sorry.

My remark about 'paedophilia' in no way insinuated that they were/are paedophiles, as you no doubt know. There is an association that advocates man/boy sexual relationships, often referred to as 'Man Love'. Here is a link:

As you know, I didn't address Hillary or NASCAR; I might note, however, that the American South is very conservative in a way not easily understood by American northerners or Brits.

No need to insult everyday working folks, buddy Amos. The fact is that these are pompous asses, full of their own bullshit. They are ill mannered, and uninformed, and more importantly, they couldn't care less that they are. I have seen much more grace, intelligence and understanding in the average hair dresser, trash collector, gaffer, working stiff than I see in these prigs.

I would like for them to come with me to Canada, stroll the neighborhoods of Toronto, Montreal, or Vancouver, and then talk to me about this. Never mind ...... they would look, but they would not see. They would listen, but they would not hear. Like I said...... Ugly Americans. Some of us work so hard to dispel that image and up pops these nincompoops on a national network.

Obviously most posters to this thread don't watch Fox News Network regularly. They try to present both sides of an issue and that's what they did with this clip. Unique idea, I know if all you watch is CNN, MSNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC, or CNBC, I can understand why it would un-nerve those listeners.

I watched the video. Big deal. As far as I know, Obama has not yet banned free speech in the U.S. It is still alive and well. Do I agree with the pseudo comedians on that clip? No. I do agree with the blonde lady and Jonathan what's-his-name that Canada is one of our closest allies and trade partners and am grateful to Canada for providing military forces in our global effort to defeat terrorism.

To those who are so put out by the clip I say, loosen up, get a life.

"I might note, however, that the American South is very conservative in a way not easily understood by American northerners or Brits."

So what? Bigots are bigots full stop - that's what the Top Gear boys were trying to prove, though how bloody obvious it needs to be I don't know. Hitler was not easily understood by anyone with an ounce of decency. As for "Man Love", that's not what it means over here so that's just a cultural difference; I suspect the makers of the programme would be horrified if it had other connotations - perhaps you should email them about it.

"When one introduces someone that we in the US may never have heard of by saying: "The most popular motoring TV show in the UK", it lends credence to the idea that this is the writer's view. Sorry."

Apology accepted. The most popular newspaper here is The Sun, which is a godawful rag that would probably go down well with them good ole boys in the south (the white ones, anyway).

I didn't mean offence Ebbie, so once more I apologise if I caused any. However, your comments about the North were equally ill-considered.

I am a winner enough to be able to see a man trapped by demogoguery and cliche' driven thought, Doug, and that is you. And you consistently tell me I am insulting when I am responding to YOUR words and ideas. I laid out for you what is wrong with this whole bit of diatribe and you defend it. If you cannot see the problem with this type of crap being shown on a national network, then you are a poster child for the Ugly American stereotype. In our country, and on our Mudcat, one is free to express opinion, just as you and I have done. It is necessary, however, to understand that by posting opinion, you are eligible for the response it gets. And you got mine to yours.

So are there masses of complaints from Americans about this crap about Canada? All kinds of offensive rubbish can get broadcast, as we know over here - but when there's a storm of protest about it from ordinary people, that puts it more into proportion, and shows it up for the self-indulgent nonsense of self-important fools.

But if there isn't a storm of protest from ordinary people, that makes it rather more significant.

So how did people react to this?

A word of comfort, I hope, to all of the North American Continent. Yes, "Top Gear" is a programme shown on BBC but to suggest everybody clamours to watch it is way off the mark. It could possibly be called the most popular motoring programme but there are hardly any others of note. Jeremy Clarkson, who owns the production company, has over the years set himself up as self important controversial chatterer and one of his colleagues is lucky to be alive. He nearly died in a crash during very high speed stunt. Clarkson has also earned the dis-approval many of the British public as a result of his utterances.

I hope nobody is dignifying this with any real attention. Don't think you have to apologize for this tripe, my American friends.

The really big sin here is that these douches think they are putting on a comedy news show. They should be forced to watch The Daily Show or Colbert Report to see how it is done properly. Those shows regularly poke fun at Canada and we laugh right along with them, because it's funny.

These infected anal hair follicles wouldn't know funny if you ducked their heads in it and gave them a swirly. Here's a hint: if you're gonna to riff on a subject, inform yourself about it first.

By the way, one of the boys that came home by the low road today is from my little town. I didn't know him personally, but some of my friends and family did. By all accounts he was well-liked and will be missed. I wish I had had the chance to know him. He had apparently volunteered for this mission. His infant daughter had been induced slightly early in order for him to be able to see and hold her before he shipped out.
