I remember signing the petition to keep the funding going, and I either missed it's outcome on this Site - or maybe it didn't get concluded in Mudcat Forum. Either way - no matter , but I stumbled across this link whilst trying to find out if there is anything sessions wise going on in the Workington area. Sorry I don't know how properly to do a blue clicky but you can cut and paste if the attempt below doesn't work.Eh ?

Nice to know that petition signing isn't useless, in fact quite the opposite and good luck to all concerned.

Anything "on" in Workington during the week ???

Cheers Betsy .

Does not look like it Betsy. Just find a pub you like the look of and start singing or playing. Sort of thing I do if I am in a strange place. Ask the land lord first and say "Can I sing or play softly in the corner?" If you don't get booed or chucked out after five minutes get a bit louder. You never know other people may join you.

Thanks Unicorn Man , I was just looking for a few like-minded souls.
Maybe I'll have to stretch my quest to Penrith , Whitehaven, Cockermouth , Keswick somewhere else, or even Brampton.
Done all you suggested over 40 + years , a have feeling I don't need to do that sort of thing anymore especially when I get requested to sing songs I've never heard of !!! People in Britain assume that if you can play and sing a bit , you MUST be able to sing their favourite 1990's hit song, and that if you can't you're an arsehole - so I don't do that anymore.

Thanks for the reply

Cheers ,Betsy

There is a folk thing in the Skiddaw House Hotel on a Tuesday night.
There is also a folk interested pub in Boot, the Woolpack, and it has its own brewery.

That sounds nice Dave. Is it any where near where Betsy is going to be? Plus people think I am an arsehole anyway so that does not bother me. See you around.

Ulverston is a hotbed of folk and the epicentre too. But it is a way south form Bampton.

Try googling Furness Traditions.

Hello Betsy, there is not much that goes on in the north, west and east of Cumbria. This site lists a few sessions:

mostlyacousticcumbria

Some of which are not a regular as suggested.

Piers

Thanks for the clicky Piers and I have done a search but Workington doesn't get a mention , maybe its just THAT type of place. Something will turn up . I like a bevvy and never mix with driving so the other places are a bit off the radar , but something will turn up.
Pity I wasn't going to Ulverston - I have some happy memories of that town some 40 Years ago - and it sounds a lively place for folkie - orientated events. Ah !!! The Hope and Anchor - first place I saw dominoes with 9 Spots ( i.e double Nine ) when all I had seen up to then ( and to this day ) was the double six.
The Hope and Anchor if my memory serves me right was on the same inclined street as that where Stan Laurel was born - I was in digs their as an 18 / 19 years old.
Cheers to all for trying

Betsy .
