Thread Name: Lyr Req: Adelita
Subject: RE: LYRICS REQ. Adelita
The lyrics started by Joe twist off after the second verse from the words most used in Mexico; those of Luis Martz, the composer. The melody is Mexican traditional, and the song memorializes the women of the Revolution, especially in Oaxaca where the song had its inception. Statues to this mythical woman are found in Mexico. She was not originally portrayed as a coquette, but the last verse by Martz says that if Adelita woud consent to be my wife, and become my woman, life would be an Eden.
3. Y se oia que decia
Aquel que tanto la queria;
Y si Adelita se fuera con otro,
La seguiria por tierra por mar;
Si por mar en un buque de guerra,
Si por tierra en un tren militar.

This six-line verse, with the same first line, occurs in three guises among the eleven four-line stanzas. The rest may be found on El Mariachi.com Adelita
It also has been reproduced, more clearly, in ADELITA
