Subject: RE: Joe Hill - 100 year anniversary
Thanks for the advice Gerry - here goes
Union Maid, Which Side Are You On, Working Class Hero, There is Power in a Union, Union Burying Ground, Joe Hill (seems to fit somehow!) probably in the style of John McCutcheon rather than Paul Robeson, Solidarity Forever (how relevant that this song is also 100 years old this year), Casey Jones - the Union Scab, The Preacher and the Slave, Part Of The Union, There is Power in a Union, Join Your Union, Bring out the Banners, Stand Together, Ballad of 1891, The Eight Hour Day, If It Weren't For The Union, Join The Union, Roll The Union On. Geoff Goodfellow, the 'Workers Poet' from South Autralia, has kindly given us free rein to use his material, and Timothy Mason is also happy to contribute - and then there are Joe's own poems too.
Any tips on how to get macho unionists to join in and sing as a group would be appreciated too - we had Danny Spooner in 2007 for our innaugural singing group on the Labour Day March, but he's not free to join for this event. Shortly thereafter the group fell by the wayside, but on the day - WOW!!
