While I don't have any suggestions particular to eczema, it might be worth noting that while steroids can be an appropriate part of treatment for many things, a recent brief course of a very mild Rx got me a warning that all steroids depress immune response and that I should refuse any and all vaccinations and avoid exposure to communicable ailments for at least three months after completing the treatment. My reading of the "medfacts" descriptions of a number of such drugs supports the warning.

While I certainly would not suggest not taking steroids prescribed by competent medical practitioners, the sensitivity of elderly persons to infections, and particularly to influenza and pneumonia, suggests that extra caution should be taken to avoid exposure while they are being used.
