Ahhh, Bobert, good story about the Pontiac, and the 'good stuff'.

The 4th of July when I was a HS sophomore, we mfg'd our own fire works in one kid's garage. We made 2 doz. rockets, a bunch or multi-colored fountains, and some firecrackers,,,but those really were no fun. We bought sulpher, saltpeter, fine ground charcoal, chrome compounds and a bunch of other stuff (I don't know what all) and worked nights and weekends for over a month. We would have made more, but one of the kids, not in our group, wanted to see how the powder was and what color it made. He took a bit, placed on our work bench and lit it. A spark set off nearly a whole cup of hard work. Fortunately it was loose and burned quickly...no explosion, but an acrid smell kept us out of the work are for a couple of days.

We took the rockets to Playa del Rey Beach, set the angle iron launchers toward the ocean and shot our babies all the way to...well a hundred or so yards out to sea. Best 4th of my life.

If we ever have a 'dumbest job you ever took' thread, fireworks would be a part of that from me.
